  1. nice mate. that is a decent bit of front tyre. should turn and stop now as well as punch holes through the space/time continuum under power!
  2. it's acutally quite common to have the rear legs terminate on the wheel arches as it's hard to get to the strut towers. the top X in your cage does tie into the rear strut towers anyway. it was always going to be a bit compromised by keeping most of the andra cage and working off that. it was far from perfect to begin with but to be honest I wouldn't worry too much. it's done now and should have the features you need. the car looks fantastic mate. I didn't mean to start a shitfight with the whole 2.6sec 0-200 comment. I just thought it was a typing mistake to be honest and that you meant 100km or something. anyway I'm sure you realise now it's not possible but who cares. it's a really cool car and the engine looks amazing. love the dry sump set-up too. good investment with such a $$$ engine.
  3. well currently I've got a 3.5inch trust Ti-R titanium race exhaust. it's straight titanium with a big rear cannon and funnily enough it's louder than my other GTR which just runs straight pipe with no mufflers or resonators what so ever. I guess the trust 'muffler' is really a 'loudener' or some kind of megaphone!
  4. leave it off. putting it on and know really understanding what you are doing means there is more chance of it doing harm than good. infact it's not going to give you any gain even if you did know what you were doing. seriously it's a waste of time and money. when you get that big turbo you'll need some big injectors and yet you STILL won't need that regulator.....
  5. page 33 has the relevant info. you can still have a 4 point cage with a bolt in front half (to make it 6 point) that you can bolt in for track days. my car with the 6 point mostly just has the rear half in for the street anyway as the front can be a bit intrusive for daily driving, so you just bolt in the front bit and away you go. the only hard part is driving from your home to the track with the front half installed. http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/vehicle_regulation/bulletin/pdf/NCOP7_Section_LK_Seating_and_Occy_Protection_3Feb2006.pdf page 33.
  6. thanks harry. that clears things up. as usual they sprout bullshit about consultation with stakeholders which is nothing more than nonsense. for anyone interested the important info is here http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/vehicle_regulation/bulletin/vsb_ncop.aspx lets hope against hope that NSW hold out!
  7. that's exactly what this is. 1 lap dash. come out, warm it up and go for it.
  8. troy has massive nards. that's the problem. good to see some new blood keen to have a go. you are bound to have fun no matter what and you get to be there with the big boys.
  9. this is just in QLD right? no changes coming in NSW? I currently have 2 road registered cars with cages, on is full 6 point the other is half cage but does have side intrusion bars reaching forward. no way I want to take them off the road just because I enjoy the safety of a roll cage at the handful of events I do every year. that is just nuts.
  10. if you can get someone on the ground in aus to help you. if the car was in nsw I could do it or get someone to help you but being in VIC I don't know. it's really much safer if you can have someone on the ground to supervise the purchase for you. even better if they can inspect the car for you before purchase too. good luck.
  11. yep nismoid has it. 32/33 same. 34 different.
  12. i have done UOA before dunc. used to cost me around $40 they give you container and you send it off. never had much trouble interpreting the results as they were always good. doing the UOA was what convinced me to keep forking out the $$ for motul chrono oil. even after being really got (110C +) and having a trackday (sometimes 2) the oil was still excellent. maybe think about a different oil? though if it is fuel contamination it won't solve your problem obviously. fingers crossed the next test is brighter and it was just stuff from a new engine.
  13. have you got a copy of the auction sheet? you should have. if so post it up. someone can even look up the price they paid for it at auction if you really want to know. my advice though since you've already agreed to buy it is just accept that it is what it is and move on. too late to start worrying about price and condition and kms now mate. you're supposed to do that BEFORE you buy the car....
  14. I'm not 100% sure since you are not an australian citizen but you should be able to export your car to australia as a 'personal import' or something similar, there is also a scheme for tourists who are travelling and want to bring their car from the US or europe or whatever but usually you have to export it again back home at the end of your journey. check with the Department of Infrastructure and transport (formally DOTARS, they are the government agency that control importing cars into aus). as far as the modifications go, I would not be too worries. Many cars in NSW are of a similar level of modification. It's certainly not a problem for importing and as far as compliance goes there is nothing there that could not easily be returned to standard for the compliance sign off. parking in pyrmont is expensive. unlike many countries though most permanent parking comes with the apartments. unlike japan and other countries there is not a huge market here where people rent or buy parking separately. so your best option is to try and get an apartment with a parking space in the building. it's not hard to do, just a little more expensive rent.
  15. just to add I'm sure iron chef can source a car from a dealer for you too. he may be a bit reluctant as it can be hard depending on where the dealer is vs his japanese exporter to get the car properly checked out. and some dealers won't even allow proper inspections of their cars. so it may be a case of having to trust the dealers impressions of the car....never a recipe for guaranteed success.... but just like in aus some are much better than others and actually tell the truth some of the time...
  16. which USS though? USS is a company name, they have dozens of auction houses in japan (ie USS tokyo chiba, USS kyushu gold, etc etc). along with the other big ones there are about 60 auctions a week in japan and I'd say at least 20 really worth looking at. I buy cars from dealers as well as auctions and have even negotiated private sales before to get special cars in japan. there is a super rare V spec II N1 R32 with a dealer that I deal with in Japan available at the moment. It's probably the most desirable of all R32 GTR models and one of the hardest to come by (let alone in standard condition). it's standard down to the wheels, exhaust etc with genuine 46,000kms, it's a 1 owner car from brand new (very hard to find and makes it 10X more desirable to a collector) and has been stored indoors it's whole life. it would be perfect but for one small problem. asking price is pretty hefty at just over double your budget.... still I would say even at the current $30K asking price it's value will only increase from here. the sad thing is given how standard and collectible it is it's not really a car you could buy to drive and enjoy every day as you'd just be destroying a piece of history of which there are not many left like that.
  17. it will be tough to do but leaning it out at idle and cruise etc should reduce the emissions a bit and thus reduce the smell too but basically without a cat you are going to be up against it to change things much just by altering the tune. unless it's rich as all hell at the moment in which case a tune up with a leaner AFR across the board would certainly help. but to be honest if it's a problem then you are better off spending the money on a good cat.
  18. holy shit! someone who understands the basics of a fuel injected engines fuel system! well done. most people have no idea. also no way is practical to take your standard 3 bar system and expect everything to be good at double the base pressure. 86psi base is going to cause some problems. first of which is most pumps will not be flowing anywhere near what they were at 3 bar under 6 bar... if you are short on fuel supply by a small amount, 3 or 4% or something by all means use some more pressure. but anything more than that just buy the right size injectors and pumps. end of story.
  19. you are on the right track. yes you can still get very nice R32 GTRs from japan but as you have found they will cost reasonable money and you may have to look to other sources than the usual auctions. many premium cars like that are snapped up by dealers before they make it to auction. your budget is pretty realistic. though I'd say make it 1.2mil to 1.5mil for a really nice car. be prepared to pay that extra $2K-$3K for a really special like (like genuine kms, owner history etc). most of the really nice R32s left in japan are the ones that have only had 1 or 2 owners. as laws of probability tell me, the cars that have had 8 owners would have encountered at least one fkhead in that bunch so even if the other 7 looked after it, it only takes one bad owner to ruin the car. I'm sure iron chef can source what you need. he just might need to look outside the regular channels.
  20. looking good mate. thanks for the update. if your car set-up is as well thought out as the car build it will be super quick. great welding too of course.
  21. well to put in a GTR a mate of mine bought his 32 GTR in japan in about 1993 or so and brought it into aus. he's owned it ever since and has done over 200,000kms on it. and that car is immaculate. I would consider buying it if he wanted to sell.
  22. you're a hard man duncan! it wouldn't surprise me if it were true. he's driven a whole race before having spewed in his helmet on teh wamrup lap (seemed to improve his driving too as he was 2nd when rear ended under safety car), he has driven the car whilst the bottom of the seat was scalding his arse so bad he ended up with severe burns and a few weeks lying on his chest. he's certainly driven before with a broken bone or two. webber is a pretty tough little coconut. and not really one to whinge too much.
  23. what track are we talking about?:
  24. I'll be surprised if RBR let him anywhere near a tricycle in the near future let alone a big boys mountain bike..... poor webs. I'd be a bit off it too with a fractured shoulder.
  25. cool rig mate.
