Bnr32 Track Build
Beer Baron replied to Kaido_RR's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
there is nothing wrong with the ikeya front LCA's I've personally sold dozens of them (including merli's set). john and unique was a bit excited about there being no steering stop on the arms. all it is is a little 'bump' in the arm at gets hit at full lock. let me ask you this. how many times on the circuit do you hit your steering stops? if you do, you have problems! yes nismo make (well made) R tune suspension for the R32 GTR. it's very good. recently used my set in giants R32 GTR and he was very happy with them. the compared very favourably with the other custom ohlins he usually runs (they did have very low spring rates though more suited to tarmac rally than circuit. the problem is the nismo r tunes are very exxy to buy new (around $8,000 right now) and hard to find in good condition used and even then they are still expensive. if you find a used set for good money in good condition then by all means go for it but I wouldn't make them your focus. -
great work mate. pretty cool having your own CNC. you did the right thing cutting the floor out. it adds a fair bit of weight but bugger all strength, very easy to regain any lost rigidity with just a few bars.

Anyone Being Paid To Race?
Beer Baron replied to TurboDoseBro's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
i believe it's: "how do you make a small fortune in motorsport??? start with a large one." plenty of examples of that. but yes plenty of people have made some nice money. bernie eccelstone is not exactly hard up for a quid... -
Replace Current Car With...
Beer Baron replied to No Crust Racing's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
well buy my R33 then! it's already got most bits sorted just bolt on some bigger turbos and wind up the power and away you go. the $10K worth of AP brakes on mine doesn't hurt either. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Bc...ir-t332697.html -
Removing Front Diff
Beer Baron replied to tricstar's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
there is no tutorial cause to do it you need to take the engine out. once the engine is out it's all fairly self explanatory... -
lol, yes I am flying business thank god. skybed ahoy! hmm, very good descriptions. I am a sucker for the young girls so maybe the clio is the go. troy like the cougars so I might leave the alfa for him.
-
funnily enough it was just after that. it was at LT8 (I think?) and was so awesome at the time as it had the option of the hand commander with display. cutting edge shit we thought.
-
if you are going MR20 forget the SW20 3S ones, get the old school one with a 4AGZE in it. kick ass motor and if you get sick of the supercharger whine they take to a turbo quite nicely.
-
yeah baby. now we are talking. I was a fan of the old BP powered AWD lasers. didn't much go for the hatch but the 'coupe' shape ones were pretty cool. a mate had one back in the 90s that was pretty heavily tuned and it was a cool car. all the typical 90s aussie gear. high flow turbo, microtech ecu (fooly!), built motor, etc. great car.
-
insecure!!! seriously though a FWD hatch can make a pretty serious track car. If you need any proof look at Dave Loftus's (lofty on here) starlet. that thing has been breaking hearts in the under 2L class in NSW (and the rest of aus) for years now. and when you see it coming down the straight at oran park (or used to see) it looks plenty mean and sounds like it's going to suck you in on it's way past. super fast, sounds good and looks good. that's all you need.

D.i.y Compliance
Beer Baron replied to DAN00H's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
yes, VIA = Vehicle Import Approval. No car can be imported to aus without one and that piece of paper will state under what scheme the vehicle was imported. that info will tell you whether or not it could be complied. as to whether or not it still can be you would need to check with DOTARS. personally I would do it sooner rather than later. the longer you leave it the higher the chance that some rule will change preventing you from getting it registered. even if you don't want to register it right now still get the work required to meet ADRs done and get the engineers sign off. That way you wont have problems when the time comes. but if it was under the 15yo scheme you should be fine. but again, my advice doesn't matter, only DOTARS can tell you what the deal is. -
unfortunately we can't have people posting negative experiences about businesses on this forum. purely because it opens our forum owner (a private citizen) to being sued for libel. Having said that as with any car you need to draw your own conclusions about the condition and history of the car. and definitely get it independently inspected by someone who knows R35 GTRs. There is one thing you can be pretty sure of. being at any car dealer it would have been bought quite cheaply from a desperate to sell owner and then had a very decent mark-up added. Personally I would be looking to buy one privately you will most definitely save money that way.

one thing to note. in the pics it has just a plain carbon wing element. I since changed it for the nismo dual plane one which is awesome. They are super rare and the only other one I've seen went for around $2,000 when it was sold. As for kms it's showing 45,000kms on the nismo meter kit. I would say total kms around 60,000kms or so. It's hard to say exactly but the car is in fantastic condition and as always as a buyer judge the condition of the car by how it looks and drives. Compression test results also suggest a well looked after car in top condition. Also any serious buyer is welcome to have their own mechanic do another test. Or save some money and just go off the one I had done. Some notes from me: Car drives very nicely. It's got lots of nice gear but has definitely not been a track car and still has very mild power mods but lots of other great gear. It's running just on 1bar boost and I'd estimate power around 250awkw. It has all the important reliability mods, proper jap alloy radiator and header tank system which keeps air pockets out of the head (rad costs around $1,000 and $400 for the header system), has a nice japanese HKS oil cooler kit (also around $1,000, and a nice HKS intercooler (around $1500). The brakes are amazing. Exactly what you'd expect with big 6piston AP callipers and matching 4 piston rears with nice big 2 piece rotors all round. it stops like nothing else. Quite often when just pulling up gently at a set of lights the brakes are so good you find yourself coming up a meter short of where you wanted to end up and then have to creep forward a bit to the line. Gearbox and clutch are very nice. No noises from either and shift action is nice and smooth. Clutch is not too heavy and very easy to drive. Rear diff is a 2way and is nice and tight but does not clunk or shudder. but on tight carpark turns it will lock up and you get a little wheel spin from the inside wheel which is trying to turn less than the outside. this is the behaviour of a healthy mech LSD. The interior is in excellent condition. No sagginess in the seats or marks anywhere. Floor mats are nice and clean and the carbon on the dash is top quality. For anyone who doesn't know who Robson is look them up in google etc. They do amazing work. I don't know what else I can say. It's an amazing GTR. Being a Tommy Kaira edition adds some rarity to it with the build plate etc but on top of that it's a very neat car with some very pricey bolt on parts. Brakes alone over $10K, nice wheels, top shelf super high performance road tyres, Power FC, top quality inter cooler, radiator and oil cooler, nice diff etc. It's a great entry to tuned GTRs and has all the important stuff taken care of. Very rare to find a car with brakes like this as they are just so expensive to do. I really want this sold before the end of the month as i am going overseas then so if you are interested don't delay, just shoot me a pm and we'll tee up a meeting.

Hi Guys, Time has come to sell my R33 GTR. It's a Tommy Kaira RL spec edition car. It was purchased in Japan and imported earlier this year. It comes with NSW rego. This car is a very special R33 GTR. my friend Mark bought this car for himself in Kyushu but soon after got very taken by an EVO so this GTR ended up with me. I know he's crazy... Anyway it's a great car but I also own 2 other GTRs, a worked S13 Silvia drift car, 2 motorbikes and a daily car and having now bought a new house I desperately need to sell a few of my cars. Here's the details on this car which you can also view on carsales. This would be the one of the most unique and desirable R33 GTRs available. It is a factory Tommy Kaira (serial number TK0016) making it possibly one of a kind currently here in Australia. In addition, it has about $30,000 worth of performance enhancing modifications including AP RACING BRAKES (6 pot fronts with 360mm rotors and 4 pot rears with 340mm rotors), light weight forged SSR Racing Alloys and APEXi Power FC ECU. Brakes alone are worth around $10,000. Engine compression has been tested and was near perfect. Compression is 1100KPa in all cylinders except no. 5, which measured 1120KPa (very minor variation). The car looks and feels fresh and new. Interior is unmarked and can best be described as immaculate. The body is also A1 with excellent paint and finish. This is a NON accident motor vehicle that has been garaged most of its life. If you are looking for a truly SPECIAL GTR, this is it. More photos are available upon request. ANY inspections welcome. Following is the detailed list. As you can see ALL the parts on this car are top quality. Nothing cheap or nasty anywhere on this car. 96 S2 Nissan Skyline GTR Factory Tommy Kaira TYPE RL Spec #TK0016 AP 6pot front calipers with 360mm 2 piece rotors AP 4pot rear calipers with 340mm 2 piece rotors AP braided brake lines ARC pillow ball tension rods Greddy oil pressure gauge in a-pillar mount Tommy Kaira body kit (genuine original RL spec kit) KEY!S Kinoshita Racing steering wheel and boss kit Carbon fibre over laid centre console and dash panel (done by Robson in Japan) Nismo adjustable dual element rear wing (very rare and out of production) Nismo Carbon fibre wing end plates SSR 18X10 inch wheels 265/45/18 Bridgestone RE-01R tyres (excellent tread, about $1800 a set these tyres) HKS turbo timer Splitfire coil packs Splitfire DI ignition bridge Apexi power intake kit Nismo oil catch tank kit (with oil return to sump) - very good kit Nismo power bracing (8 piece under car brace set) Nismo intake piping kit (including Y pipe etc) Billion silicone radiator hose kit Apexi 40mm alloy radiator Sard air removal header tank system Nismo heavy duty clutch kit HKS front mount intercooler (type R 100mm kit) HKS type R oil cooler kit Nismo front pipes Nismo weldina 3.5inch cat back exhaust HKS hipermax coil-overs Nismo 2 way rear LSD Nismo full scale meter kit (320km/h speed and 11,000rpm tacho) Nismo full scale 3 gauge cluster (boost to 1.4bar, oil temp and torque) Apexi Power FC ECU and handcontroller Blitz dual SBC ID boost controller PIAA HID headlights (in genuine xenon housings) Rear nismo LED tail lights Factory remote central locking and alarm system Carozzeria motorized face stereo with MD, CD and stacker under drivers seat Front Splits with A pillar mounted tweeters (flush mounted) Genuine R34 GTR Alloy foot pedals Genuine Nissan GTR front and rear strut braces Nismo fuel pressure regulator R33 N1 turbos (need to confirm 100% but inspection suggests they are) R34 GTR rocker covers and timing belt cover set Tommy Kaira alloy rear subframe lock collars (set to neutral) The car is located in Sydney CBD and can be viewed by arrangement with me. lol, I need all the help I can get! I'm doing the M3 for day 2, day 1 I'm still tossing up between a worked 80s alfa 75 track car (3L V6, cage, semi's etc) or a Renault Clio R26R with semis etc too. the clio probably faster but FWD though perhaps for the first day on the ring that will be a good thing.

Any Onw Made There Own Inlet Plenum?
Beer Baron replied to solheim's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I tend to agree with Blitz. plenum design is pretty important and a bit of a dark art to get it right. there are some good off the shelf products out there as nick mentioned that are not prohibitively expensive. -
I think 70RTY summed it up pretty well. decide if warranty is important to you. if it's not so important you would want to be saving about $8-$10K over a comparable ADM car with warranty. so if a good used ADM is around $130K these days I would be looking for a good used JDM around the $120K mark give or take a little. Performance wise there is nothing between them the real big difference is warranty and the value of the warranty is highly debatable.... If it were me I'd look at the cars available on the market, both ADM and JDM and pick the car with the best cost vs condition/spec compromise whether it be JDM or ADM.

hi mate, I have all the pics in hi-res still and many more I never got around to posting. I'm just about to move house again though so time is tight at the moment. give me a few weeks and I will get some out. in fact I'm going back to japan next month so I'll have some fresh pics too.
-
yeah they are pretty unpopular in japan. questionable styling I think is the main problem. R32s, R34s and S13 and S15 are far more popular. looks wise nissan dropped the ball a bit with the 33 and the S14. neither model has improved with age either...

that is exactly how they normally look. they are a type of tamper proof rivet. -
ps, don't put the rotor in it. as cool and as fun as it would be the cost of owning and running the thing would just go right out the window and it would also make it ineligible for any class of racing that it would be competitive in. keep it cheap and simple with the original donk in it and you will have fun. not sure how much better the 1.8 is over the 1.6 but I seem to remember they are quite an improvement.
-
yep of the 2 options I would go the MX5. more options for racing it around australia as they are a very popular club race car. also look at some 80s alfa track cars around the place. lots of those around and they are great fun to drive.
