Just before I went for a quick drive, switched the car off for about 5 minutes, jumped back in and noticed the HICAS light is on solid and the car steers like a tank. A quick check of the steering belt and eveything seems fine (that is all I have had time to check so far as I am at work) but it's got me worried now, I just forked out a ton of cash to get it serviced and I'm hoping that it's not a major problem. I know nothing about the HICAS system. Really need help here. 1993 S1 R-33 GTS. EDIT: Started car earlier and steering works fine again. Any ideas?

Intermittent Wipers Don't Work, Power Windows Work Intermittently
Stitch replied to Stitch's topic in General Maintenance
Thanks to Luciano for the new relay! It worked wonderfully on my driver side window Not so good news for the wipers though, I managed to find one brown box against the firewall on the passenger side, it was plugged in - I sprayed some contact cleaner in it but to no avail. Intermittent wipers still do not work. Any more ideas? This is driving me nuts as it has been raining a lot lately! -
Intermittent Wipers Don't Work, Power Windows Work Intermittently
Stitch replied to Stitch's topic in General Maintenance
Thanks Jack and Tenq. I have seen these boxes before when looking around in the engine bay but never realised what they were for. They are connected but they are very dirty - perhaps I will try spraying a bit of electrical contact cleaner on them. I will let you know how it goes. -
Two things have been annoying me to hell the past few weeks as my old R-33 GTS seems to have given up on the driver's side electric window and the intermittent windscreen wipers. Number one, the power windows - when I hit the switch to wind them up, 9 times out of 10 it won't work. I have to quickly flick the switch down and back up to get it to work and sometimes even that doesn't work. If I hold the switch in the up position and elbow the inside of the door firmly that seems to work the best. I have taken the door trim off and checked all the connections to no avail, I notice there is a little black-box that seems to be the controller for the window that I can't open. When I flip the switch you can hear things inside the box clicking and making noise, I think the problem may be there. Any ideas? Two, the wipers - lately when I set my wipers to INT they simply will not go. This used to happen once in a blue moon but would rectify itself but lately they have stopped working on INT altogether. It used to be that I left the lever on INT and after about 10 - 20 minutes they would start wiping really fast for a few times and then return to normal speed. Now, nothing. I have to have the wipers on flat-out or not at all. Again - any ideas? As it is really annoying in light showers of rain...

I was just curious as to what people are paying on insurance each year on their Skylines. In particular older R-33's. To be specific I have a 93' NA R-33 GTS that doesn't really have many mods, 400R body kit, decent stereo and 17" rims, no performance mods (yet), I'm 21 and have a flawless driving record (no speeding fines even!) and have not made a single claim and I'm paying $1500 a year on insurance, is this a fairly typical price? Am I getting ripped? Does anyone know of any better deals?

Speedo works fine

A couple of weeks ago my Odometre ticked over to 111000 km's and that's where it stayed! I reset my tripmetre a short time after and now that doesn't work either. I am assuming that both are related . Does anyone know how I might fix this, it's starting to p*ss me off and I don't want to go bashing around trying to fix it because I honestly wouldn't have any idea what I am doing...

I need a spare wheel for my 93' R-33GTS. Anyone got any offers?

Looking to buy a set of tail-lights for a 2-door R-33 urgently!
-
Resealing shouldn't be much of an issue, my problem is getting the dirt and mess that's already got in there out, by completely removing the indicator cover. That's where my problem is...

I got mine from a glass & aluminium business, they make windows and security screen doors. I got some nice dense black mesh off-cuts for free and it looks pretty sweet. I don't have any photos, but it's like that stuff you have on screen doors (not flywire) but nice thick powder-coat stuff.

I've got a bit of a niggling issue with the rear indicator lense on my R-33. As you can see from the photo attached they are full of dirt and shit and they leak water slightly, it was like this when I bought it, I have tried removing them but can't seem to get it and I'm a bit scared to force it because I will probably break it. I can get the whole tail-light assembly out fine but does anyone know how to get the indicator lense off so I can get all the dirt out and reseal it properly?

Hey all, I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to turbochargers. I have an NA R33 and was pondering installing a turbo but I really have no knowledge on what sorts of things are involved. Is it difficult to do, easy to mess up? Do you need to upgrade any of the existing engine components to cope with the extra power?

Central Locking Won't Unlock Driver's Side Door
Stitch replied to Stitch's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
It turns out the latch on the door is jammed and it's riveted together so I am currently in the process of sourcing a new one. The auto-electrician somehow managed to get the door open and removed the latch which can't be dismantled without essentially destroying it so, bit of bad news there - the fun part is going to be finding a replacement! -
Can anyone sell me the latch for the driver's side door from a 93 R-33 GTS or anything that fits, I'm assuming they're all pretty standard across most models, mine seems to have jammed completely and I can't take it apart without destroying it as it is pop-riveted together.

This morning I jumped in my Skyline to go to work and went to get out the shut a gate and the bleedin' driver's side door wouldn't open! When I start the engine the doors automatically lock themselves and to get out you either have to switch the engine off or flip the switch to the unlock the doors manually. When the switch is flipped on the drivers side it automatically unlocks the passenger side door also. So I'm trapped inside my own car and was forced to crawl out the passenger side door, not very graceful. But no matter what I do I cannot get the driver's side to unlock, either manually from inside the car, from the outside with the key fob or with the key! I've also noticed that as of late the power window on the driver side doesn't work consistently when I go to wind it up, winds down fine but to get it up some times I will have to flip the switch about 5 or 6 times to get it to work, I don't know if this has anything to do with it, it just seems a bit suspicious that the electrical stuff on the drivers side doesn't seem to be working properly as of late. When I press the keyfob the lock switch does flip back as if it is actually unlocked but the door just will not open.

Excuse my ignorance, I just got a massive flat tyre down the street and I had no spare. Very embarrassing. I don't plan on having this happen again so I was wondering what wheels fit on the Skyline - I know about the space saver spares that are supposed to be with them but I heard that wheels of certain Commodores (or Falcons, I can't quite remember) fit. Is this true? If so which ones are they?

I need a set of eye-lids for my series II R33 and I'm having trouble finding them, anyone know where to look? I did find instructions on how to make them yourself somewhere and I have some fibreglass at home - maybe that would be a better option...

I'm trying to set up something similar to this but I can't get a good sound out of the laptop. Did your laptop have a line-out aswell as just your normal headphone output. What is the sound quality like on your setup?

Does anyone know what the two-way switch in the centre console next to the handbrake is for? I've attached a photo. I have an 93 R33 GTS. Sorry, it's a little blurry, taken with my phone in low light...

I am currently interested in buying a 1993 Nissan Skyline GTS but I'm having a lot of trouble deciding whether or not I should do it! I could get it for $9,500 but apparently the timing belt needs replacing, does anyone know how much this would cost to have done or even if it's easy enough to do myself? This would be my first Skyline and I'd be taking a bit of a financial risk buying it but I love the cars and have always wanted one! The car itself is in good condition with a bit of minor front bumper damage and has 103,000kms on the clock. Does anyone have any idea how much insurance on a vehicle like this would cost for a 21-year-old guy with a clean driving record? Oh and one more question, is it possible to insure the vehicle under a parents name but still have the car registered under your own name? I'm half-certain it's not possible and the only way to do it would to have the car registered under my parents name in order to save on insurance, but in that case I don't think the bank would give me the money. Surely someone has been in this situation before. Help please! Thanks - Ben
