good point, thats one thing we havent checked... didnt think it would cause all the smoke... i was told this by someone else today as well... i had never heard of this happening before... i didnt know the HG could have a 'minor crack'... i just thought that once they go, thats it, its gone!! i call it "A LOT" when you sit in the car and you cant see behind you because of all the smoke... when i say "cold start", i dont mean just in the morning... it could be at 2pm in the afternoon... i just mean that it hasnt been started in quite a few hours so the engine is "cold"... and its not condenstation in the exhaust system... my euro 'smokes' in the morning as well which is caused by condensation in the exhaust system... this is thick white smoke that bellows out of the exhaust pipe... after all this, it was started today and driven back to my house from my mates workshop and there wasnt a puff of smoke at all and absolutely no mis-firing... so it seems like one day it will smoke and misfire, then the next day it will be fine, then the day after that it'll have problems again... could a minor crack in the head gasket 'come and go' like that? and would a minor crack in the head gasket cause it to misfire randomly at idle? i'll start her up in the morning tomorrow and see if she smokes and misfires or not... thanks for the suggestions guys... please keep them coming.. its greatly appreciated!

hey guys... i'm hoping someone on here might be able to help me... i've done a search, but i cant find a thread with my problems... its an RB20DET with fmic, 3" exhaust, fuel pump, t04e (brand new), splitfire coilpacks and irdium spark plugs... STANDARD ECU basically, when i do a cold start it PISSES out white smoke (smells of fuel not oil) and it misfires on idle... but if you rev the car, the misfiring goes away but there is still craploads of white smoke coming out the exhaust... but then as soon as you take it for a drive and the engine temp comes up to 'normal', all the smoke clears away (apart from a bit of black smoke cause its running excessively rich) and the misfiring stops on idle... now.. i'm completely stumped as to why this would be happening... does anyone have any suggestions on what it could be? i cant see it being a blown head gasket because a) the smoke clears up once the temp comes up to normal, b) the water in the radiator doesnt have a flim of oil on it and c) the oil isnt milky.... i believe i have two seperate problems... but they could be related, i dont know... the first problem is that its running REALLY rich and i believe thats why the smoke smells of fuel and possibly why its misfiring because the spark plug is getting wet from too much fuel... sometimes it sounds like it running on 4cyl and other times it sounds like its running on 5cyl... then the second problem is the white smoke which i have no clue on... PLEASE HELP!!! i cant go on like this... if you need to ask any clarification questions, then go ahead... thanks ash

toffy: yeah, i know... it wont be driven (let alone driven hard) while its not tuned... my main concern was driving around from the workshop and home etc.. although, in saying this, its been driven around like this for a few months because i was told it had been chipped and tuned when i bought the car... and the engine hasnt gone BANG.....YET... grandmasterb: pretty sure that its not out of an A31... from what i've read, the coilpacks are different or something like that... and the splitfire ones cant just plug straight in... and considering i put splitfire coilpacks in this just recently and it went in fine, i'm assuming that its a normal r32 rb20... although, in saying that, my mate who has an RB20 in his silvia has a 4 ribbed pulley for the powersteering belt, whereas mine is only 3 rib... but i was told that the 94 model rb20 has the 3 ribbed pulley... ugh... its all so confusing... thanks for the replies!

hi guys/girls... i've done a search, but cant really see a resolution to my question... so i'm hoping one of you genius's could help me out... the background: i bought an S13 Silvia with an RB20DET already installed. now, when i bought this car i was under the impression that it had a R32 ECU which had been chipped by Dr Drift and had also been tuned. so anyway, among a long list of other issues which needed to be fixed, one of them was the wiring... so when i was getting the car re-wired correctly, the guy mentioned to me that it wasn't an R32 ECU, but rather it was a Cefiro ECU and that it definetely was not tuned let alone chipped by Dr Drift... my question: after the research i've done, i've come to the conclusion that the cefiro ecu only has 1map for the fuel and one for the ignition, whereas the R32 ecu has 2maps for the fuel and 2 for the ignition... this is all well and good (interesting to know), but it doesnt really tell me if its safe for me to be driving the car on this ecu... it drives perfectly normal, but obviously very rich because of the mods i've done and the fact that its not tuned... so if anyone can give me a straight answer if driving it on this ecu will damage the engine or not, it would be greatly appreciated... obviously, i will be finding a R32 ECU to replace it with and then get it tuned properly... BUT, in the meantime, can i drive it around on this ecu? thanks ash.

Rb20 Cefiro And Rb20 32 Differences
S13 SecaBoy replied to silvercam's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
i just found out that my R32 RB20DET engine is being run off a cefiro ECU... can anyone tell me if this is dangerous for the engine? i'm trying to track down an R32 ECU, but having no luck so far... if anyone can help me by answering that question, it would be GREATLY appreciated... -
okay, fair enough.... good luck with it, and i'm still interested in it once its done...
-
any idea on how soon there will be one available for an rb20?? if its only a few weeks, then i wont bother trying to find a stock r32 ecu... please let me know on a ETA...

Hey, I am after an ECU for a R32 GTST (94 model i think.. dunno if that makes any differance at all)... i need one ASAP... obviously, only interested in ones from Brisbane (Gold Coast is a maybe)... i would reeeaaalllly like it before this weekend cause i need to get my silvia back together as soon as possible... i found out that the ecu in my car is a cefiro one, not an r32 one... so i'm not happy about this AT ALL because i was told that it was an r32 gtst ecu that had been chipped and tuned by dr drift... but instead i find out it is a stock cefiro ecu... anyway, if anyone can find me one, id REALLY REALLY appreciate it... thanks HEAPS ash...

Automatic Transmission Shift Kit. - Updated Oct 2006
S13 SecaBoy replied to 4door_Sleeper's topic in Group Buys
i ordered one of those "magic black boxes" to make mine a fully manual automatic... i have a slight issue with the gear selection order, but called mike and he has given me some things to check, so off i go with the test light! hahaha but i honestly cant recommend these guys enough... he has been really helpful with my issues... the silvia i bought has been a wiring nightmare, so i'm not surprised if there is a wiring issue somewhere... the guy who did the conversion should be shot!! i had wires shoved into fuses in my fuse box... ah well... hopefully these wiring issue will be sorted out and i'll be back on the road... even though the gears are selecting in the right way, all i have to say is HOLY SHITE!!! when it comes on boost in 1st gear it just frys the tyres and keeps spinning through 2nd gear... i thought i'd loose this when i converted from manual to automatic (yes, you read that correctly!) but i'm glad to see its still sweet... -
how neg are you on the auto gearbox? 400 is kinda expensive imo... (no offense) if you are willing to negotiate, lemme know

spotted DBR33 this morning on the way to work... looks nice...
