  1. cause and effect .. good sleuthing there! Dale : how big physically is the sensor? are they particularly fragile or something? I found a good freight company called AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL COURIERS Unit 14/ 45 Tomlinson Rd Welshpool 6106 Phone :13 2088 they might be able to do a good deal on transporting that sensor.
  2. we got ours complianced over east - and in our particular instance they did not register it over there. the car arrived here with no plates and we needed to get a temporary permit to drive it around ( only to workshops/ pits etc ) my take on it is.. get the car complianced and returned to a state that can pass pits. Put it over the pits and depending on WHAT mods your going to put back on , just put em back on! bear in mind you have to take the risk ( as everyone does ) that if you get pulled over and yellow stickered your going to have to revert it back to how it was after compliance. if you want to talk over the phone I am more than willing to - just PM me and I will give you my number. I am not claiming to be a know all guru - but I might be able to help Mods such as coil overs will prob get over the pits as long as the car is not stupidly low. really depends on what the mods in question are.
  3. yes getting stageas complianced in WA is near on impossible - let alone a highly modded one Shogun imports over in Brizzie could probably give you a good idea - they complianced our stag and did a good job of it
  4. I suppose its a good case of K.I.S.S hey? thanks for flling us all in .. as I am new to the concept of clutch fans ( as I am used to electric thermofans)
  5. excuse my ignorance but I was under the impression that the front wheels were driven all the time? Split front to rear is 40/60 from what I can remember. Is there anyway of double checking his diagnosis? $2500 for a sensor is crazy ! Maybe you can bypass the sensor and just run the front wheels all the time?
  6. do you know what your getting L / 100km time wise?
  7. yeah.. but dont forget the majority of stageas are autos..so thats not really an option having said that .. the autos do drop into a pretty tall gear for cruising around
  8. valid point there.. I guess its up to the individual to either take action or accept it.
  9. So I take it the existing Nismo wheel is a non airbag model? I guess so because thats most likely to cause issues with compliance The coil overs MIGHT be rebound and damper adjustable .. so you might be able to soften them up. if the adj valving does not help you could always go for a slightly softer spring rate? why not just wind the coil overs up a bit and keep the existing kit? dont forget your going to be up for a bit of $$ getting the kit fitted and paint matched to your existing body colour ( the cars that is not yours haha ) In regards to the steeringwheel - perhaps someone listed in the thread of Stagea parts sellers could help? either that or find a wrecker here that might be able to help. \
  10. I am pretty sure those can be obtained from most of the body kit/styling shops. I think the BMW style are the most copied .. but .. somethimes its in carbon fiber look alike ( blargh ) but yeh that would look pretty tidy for sure! let us know if you do go ahead and get them installed. Might be worth checking if its a mod that could cause problems from the boys in blue .. ( local state rules may vary)
  11. as 66yostagea pointed out .. if thats the best we can get then its not too bad considering the car is pretty heavy .. but comfy to drive. the coilpack question is a valid one though! would be interesting to see. the other waay left feild idea I had was - ( I did say waay out! ) I wonder if the people who get better economy drive around with their windows closed MOST of the time. I for one like fresh air and lots of it .. so windows down most of the time ! pretty far fetched but could be an idea. Aah.. I am just going to hack away at it slowly and keep you guys informed if I make any ground breaking improvements.. to be honest I think I wont! but keep the ideas flowing !
  12. Jerome- thanks for that.. gives me a good understanding of how they test it etc.. Mike- your car sounds like its getting better than average fuel economy .. I mean .. sure .. we probably got sucked into the whole " performance wagon " thing.. I just didnt think it would be THAT bad. and yeah.. aftermarket ecu or SITC+SAFC sound like the best results
  13. ok guys and gals.. have not seen this thread for a while as I dont have interwebzz at home so .. it would seem that we are getting about average ( from factory specs ) around the city then! so .. as dale points out .. maybe we are all chasing an impossible dream ! oh the other thing I dont understand is what does "10•15 mode 8.8 km/L" mean ?
  14. yea our whale has a floppy flipper ( drivers side ) so I have to pull it apart and have a looksie a stop is usually just a physical backstop if you like to stop things from rotating around too far. but there also might be a switch that gets depressed to signal the folding mechanism that its fully open or fully closed. so that mihght be a problem too. Let us know what you find! I think there might be a detent that sorta spring loads it into the extended positon .. ( haa.. god i am too tired to make any sense ) but fill me in if you find anything as I have yet to get around to fixing ours.
  15. SCAN or BAN haha..
  16. yeah thats pretty damned poor hey? One thing I cant seem to get out of anyone are a few things how many people can categorically say they have a working o2 sensor ? Ie .. its been checked by reading fluctiating values from the sensor etc. Another thing I want to know is what is the supposed fuel economy of the stagea when it came out of the factory? Maybe it was woeful from the very begining and we are just chasing our tails?
  17. I couldnt look at all the photos .. was just too horrible! I think that is a classic example of " cutting your nose off to spite your face "
  18. yeah I too am debating the S2 myth that it gets better economy. we have an s2 and can just get 400k till the fill light comes on we ( stagea owners ) might need to get a bit more methodical about what fix made what fuel econ difference. ( ie start logging it all in this thread etc ) also doesnt really seem like anyone in here has confirmed the working operation of their o2 sensors. I am close to finally getting off my ass and getting my consult to see if it can read the operation of the o2 sensor while moving etc.
  19. 10W70 holy molasses batman ! yeah we are definately running thinner than that .. but I will check for sure. now.. can someome educate me as to WHY the fuel filter could be causing poor consumption? I am not saying that its not a valid possiblity but just want to know the reasoning behind it.
  20. that IS going cheap ! I still like the boxier shape of the previous models though .. but yeah good spotting I am pretty sure thats going to be snapped up pretty fast
  21. oh one last question .. what exactly does the CHECK line do ?
  22. thanks man you have really helped me out ! I dont have the car with me to check .. but from memory yeh it was that area that was causing me greif! there were also ( again from memory ) one or 2 pins that were not listed in that diagram I will give it another shot tonight and see whats going on.
  23. hmmmm .. yes the clock looks to be missing.. but how can I really tell with just a multimeter? I guess with that in mind I could give it another go tonight.
  24. well the TX RX etc cluster is not the same on the stagea .. has 3 connectors in there instead of the 4 that I was used to see. I dont have any info on the stagea really ! I could take a photo of the port but my digital camera is pretty damned average!
  25. referning to this image http://www.ecutalk.com/images/consult_car.jpg the consult port on our 2000 stagea looks very very similar .. but intead of the grouping of 4 pins on one side ( clock , ground . rx .tx etc ) the pins on teh stagea plug are a bit different. can someone shed some light as to if my consult cable I used on my N14 pulsar can be modified to fit / interact with the stagea consult? I think the cable I have is for ODB I .. does the stagea have ODB II? oh and if anyone replies to this post can you PM me .. as I am fairly new on this forum and get a bit lost as to what threads I have replied to many thanks
