I have given up on trying to re-locate the factory tranny cooler and instead am going to get the 6 cyl PWR one. My only reservation is its a LOT thinner than the factory cooler, granted you do get a larger surface area! I have had some good feedback about where to mount the new tranny cooler etc but was just more wondering about the thickness of the PWR cooler. Should it suffice? the car does not have a tow bar ( hence no towing ) and very rarely is fully laden.
-
DaveB , thats an awesome outcome hey? gives me hope that my relocation might look just as good.

Thanks Simon Good point regarding the lack of airflow when the car is at a stand still, something I might need to consider. The car does not see any towing duties and to be honest rarely has more than 2 people in it, but still worth considering a small thermo fan setup like you suggested. Oddly enough as fate would have it , the bracket that I removed from the factory Intercooler is a PERFECT fit for the 2 mounting lugs on the side of the factory Tranny cooler, and oddly enough the other side of the bracket seems perfectly bent to fit under the steel bumper ( are they even called bumpers anymore?? ) so I just need to test fit the front bar and get some extension hose for the cooler and I should be right to go ! Fingers crossed that when I get the front bar meshed again you shouldnt be able to see much of the oil cooler at all. Considering that the cooler will probably get MORE airflow when the car is moving do you think a small thermo will be needed? Regarding Draining the oil when I remove the factory oil cooler, whats the best way of doing that? If I remove one side of the hose ( so it gets some air in the system ) will it then drain back into the transmission? or is it just going to piss everywhere?

Just have to move the factory Stagea tranny oil cooler and wanted to know if there is anything I need to avoid? Like does it have to be the same height as it was before? Or will the oil pressure sort that out? I am thinkingg of relocating it to a lower position underneath the drivers side headlight cause our front bar has a big vent there, sound reasonable enough ? I am guessing I nneed to top up trans fluid , but do I need to bleed the system of air ?

Water to air = SIIIIIIIKKK!!!!!! expensive but pure Porn!!

Ok - Snag #1 !! I dont know if its some kinda crazy ingenuity on Just Japs behalf , but to cut a long stoy short the factory intercooler pipework for the Stagea seems to be somewhere between 2.5 inch and 2.25 inch ! WTF? Like no sh1t hey.. I went to replace the factory elbows ( near where the Air box used to sit ) to get a bit more length to mate up the Just Jap pipe work , and got some 2.5 inch 90 Deg Elbows , brought them home and BaawBAAWWW .. the fit was just much too loose, I tried clamping it down with a clamp and was just not 100% happy with it, just seemed to bunch up a bit. So went back to the guy ( THANK YOU to CHAMP from SilviaWA ) and got some 2.25 inch elbow bends and yeh.. its going to be like fitting a grand piano down a flight of stairs ( TIGHT ) but I would prefer to try and get a good tight fit rather than stress about it leaking while its getting Nistuned. Now dont get me wrong. I am not bagging Just Jap , not by any means. I am just trying to get the information out there for others that are going down the same path. I think it would have been good if Just Jap priced the cooler kit a bit higher and included all the replacement pipework. Anyways having driven for god knows how long this afternoon I am not going to work on it anymore , but will post more information about this sometime between xmas and NYE!

I might need to move the factory oil cooler, whats the deal with that? anything to look out for?
-
ok well got home, ripped off the factory cooler off ( More on that in a min !) , took the front bar off etc etc. Now- the Just Jap intercooler kit is definately not a direct fit. The oil cooler fouls it and the thermo fan comes pretty close too ( this has been addressed before. Also in our particular instance it fouls on the front bar on the right hand side vent as you are looking at the car. My thoughts were to put the numberplate over the vent so that it is out of the way of the airflow into the cooler and it will also cover any hacking I need to do for the pipes to clear the vent I need to find a new home for the horns and also the oil cooler. Hey whats the dealio with relocating oil coolers? anything to be looking at , ie any traps for young playerS? The weird thing is that the factory cooler was oily on the OUTLET of the cooler and clean on the inlet of the cooler?? WTF ? does that make sense to anyone else? where does the oil come from in the space of passing thru the cooler!? The return pipe on the new cooler hangs a bit lower than the lip on the front bar - so we will have to mind that when we go parking etc. There is some jiggering around to be done where the factory pipes meet the new cooler pipes - I need a few extra inches and should be good.

Well its going to be very interesting to see a before/after fuel econ for the Stagea after we get it Nistuned. Obviously we will running a bit more boost but the mix should be a bit leaner - so yeah, I really cant wait.
-
Ok well the JJR kit arrived last night , was going to start on it today ( this morning ) but had a few things to take care of at work so I might start at around mid-day. I had a really quick look at things last night and looks like I am going to have to hack the front bar a bit. What are the best tools to cut that kinda plastic with? I have a Dremel with a cut off wheel but thats going to take AAAGES! Other than that I was thinking a jigsaw with a blade suitable for plastic might be faster way of doing things. I will make sure I post some pics.
-
GTRWAGON - whats up with your boost curve?
-
MacDog- valid questions, but most tuners will be pretty sure to run a safe tune( Ie dont make it go too lean ) so in theory sure you will get more wear and tear from pumping more power out but as long as it does not lean out you should be ok.

Thanks for the support- I was feeling hell emo ! I almost put a black fringe on the stagea so it could be Emo too. Well - To be honest its a good outcome from a bad dyno run. Loretta finally realises she really needs to chuck some $$ at the car to get it running to its full potential. I thinkk she is going to be happy with the results from essentially what she already has! I compare it to an athelete getting fat and out of shape , with a bit of work he/she can be back to full potential - kinda the same with the Stagea we wont know anything till the 5th of Jan - so stay chooooned for an update
-
Sorry I did not realise there was a previous thread Mods - do you want to close this ???
-
I'm with him ! See the Stagea Dyno thread and you can see how rich some of the Stageas get when they are approaching max boost. Bear in mind running rich= less power and less $ in your wallet we are in the process of trying to get ours to do better than 16.4 L /100k go look at the dyno graph and come back here to laugh
-
its a Neo indeed. and yeh just a smidge on the rich side.
-
Well after the sh1t-tacular results of sticking the C34 on the dyno I thought we might like to make a thread to post stagea dyno results in. ( or lack of results in my case !) Any suggestions/comments are welcome ( positive of course ! )
-
Just ordered the Just Jap Stealth kit. After reading this thread it seems that it should work pretty nicely. Our Stagea has the Dolphin front bar so I am thinking that will give us a bit more room to work with as well as less obstructions for airflow. Fingers crossed it gets here before the Xmas break.
-
aah.. I dont feel so bad then ! fark I couldnt beleive it when I saw the power ( or lack there of ) , trying to convince her to get some form of aftermarket ECU, I am no Math Wizz but I am pretty sure that the ECU would pay for itsefl in not too long if she is guzzling that much fuel
-
I would have liked to have stayed and watched a few of the runs.

Perth Sauwa Dyno Day, Stagea's Welcome
ssshonky replied to GTS-t VSPEC's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
The Stagea didnt do too well oh the Humanity... I am surprised we didnt all get gassed. -
Bubba tell me more ! what motor you got in the Stagea? The Rb25DET Neo ? so you were running AWD too yeah?
-
Just the knob that controls the climate control aircon doovey.. the button you turn to make it hotter or colder- press that and it should tell you the external temp thats on a S2 C34 stag
-
Thank you to Paul and all the guys at Autoworx for getting us on the dyno nice and early! Much appreciated - made the family lunch right on time! The result of the Stagea really did surprise me , and made me a Sad Panda too Oh well least I know HOW rich its running. I am surprised we didnt all feel like a little sleep after her run. the Silvia went about as I would have expected. At least Loretta now knows there is a LOT of improvement to be made in her car without even changing anything ( other than the ECU or getting a piggyback )
-
I thought it was for measuring the external air temperature for the A/C? So when you press the button to see what the outside temp is , the signal is sent from that sensor. Correct me If I am wrong
