Wakie Track Day Wrap-Up Thread - 5 March 2011
GTR32G replied to GoldZilla's topic in New South Wales
Just stick the radical out with Ben in the Nascup and my R100 Sports Sedan. Brother was also considering bringing the PRB down. We can have the track to our self’s and get a clear run. Only cars under 800kg can apply LOL -

GTR32G replied to GoldZilla's topic in New South Wales
There’s a HKS exhaust turbine wheel sitting somewhere at turn 6-7. It’s free to a good home if you find it LOL. Time to go buy a new Turbo and do more that a warm up lap next time. -
Was a good day for most, front turbo starting making a noise after 1 warm up lap so packed it up an took it home. Will bring the R100 out next track day.

John Boston And Bruce Oaklands V8 Supercar Video
GTR32G replied to Bozman1's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Wow great work, we going to see this at some CAMS Supersprints rounds? -
Agree with a lot above info, if you are running supersprints - lap dashes best to bed them in for one run at 80% and leave them till them next round, or bed them in at a practice day but no more than 1 heat cycle that day. Let them sit for at least 24hours. Have found on our turbo PRB Clubman not doing this tyres will go off after around 10-15 heat cycles which is 3 supersprint rounds. Loses around .8 sec a lap and gets worse the more heat cycles. If bedded in correctly tyres hold their grip for around 30 heat cycles good 6 rounds but this is based on 550kg clubman so I understand skylines tyres won’t last that long But for the ultimate best lap time go out on brand new tyres and be on 10/10th for lap 3 and 4. But doing this found tyres will be drop around 1 sec if you run them the next day and never seem to come good again. Comes down to how much money you can spend on new tyres every round or if you want them to last as long as possible.

Good point mattah I just scanned threw Pro Class rules thinking they were the same. Glad I’m not entering the pro class. As for tyres looks like the Advan AO50R will be the most popular pick or any one got any other ideas? Anyone got any feedback about running the soft or medium compounds in AO50R, how soft are the soft tyres or most people using the mediums?

Chassis • OEM strut towers must be retained and used. • OEM floor must be retained. • OEM firewall must be retained. Modifications to the firewall are allowed for roll cage, engine fitment, transmission fitment and wiring. All holes must be sealed. If the firewall is provisioned for to allow clearance for a different engine or allow gearbox/drive train fitment, all material must be replaced with the same thickness sheet metal as the factory material. • The rear most part of the engine block may be no more than 2 inches rearward of the most forward point of the firewall, If the vehicle is rear engine, the front most part of the engine block may be no more than 2 inches forward of the most rear point of the firewall. • Chassis rails may be modified for fitment issues, all chassis rail modifications must be submitted to the promoter for approval. • Tube frame chassis extensions are NOT permitted Can’t see how this is close to CAMS Sports Sedan Specs, yes some of the cars running would be able to run in Sports Sedan with some aero taken off. But far from Tube frame and mid mount motors.

Motorsport boss Walkinshaw dies at 64 Robert Grant December 13, 2010 - 3:29PM .AAP Scottish motorsport entrepreneur Tom Walkinshaw, who died on Sunday aged 64, was a man whose quiet manner belied a ruthless business mind which extended from Formula One to V8 Supercars. Walkinshaw's career was one of extreme highs and devastating lows. He was involved in recruiting superstar Michael Schumacher to Formula One and saw the German win two of his seven world titles at Benetton, where Walkinshaw was technical boss. Advertisement: Story continues below And he oversaw a profitable Australian touring car operation which produced nine Bathurst victories and eight Australian titles from 1985-2007. Walkinshaw began as a driver, winning the Scottish Formula Ford title in 1969 before moving to other classes and eventually touring cars where, in 1984, he captured the European Touring Car Championship in a Jaguar XJS. The following year Walkinshaw teamed in the Jaguar with Australian John Goss and German Armin Hahne to win the Bathurst 1000. Under the Tom Walkinshaw Racing banner, his Jaguar Group C cars won three World Sportscar titles and triumphed at Le Mans in 1988 and 1990. From there Walkinshaw was recruited by Formula One team Benetton as engineering director, bringing with him Ross Brawn, his sportscar designer and the man who would win F1 titles with Benetton, Ferrari and Brawn. This team was the genesis of Schumacher's success as he took F1 world championships with Benetton in 1994-95 before joining Brawn at Ferrari where he snared five in succession. But Benetton fell under a cloud in 1994, suspected of using illegal engineering software and Walkinshaw moved briefly to Ligier before acquiring a controlling interest in the Arrows team. He recruited 1996 world champion Damon Hill to drive for the team in 1997 but, after little success, the team folded in 2002. In Australia TWR started the Holden Racing Team in 1990 but lost control when Walkinshaw's business empire floundered in 2003. He made a comeback when he took over Holden Motorsport's Melbourne operation in 2005 and leased cars and engines to the Holden Racing Team for Mark Skaife and to K-Mart Racing for John Kelly, father of drivers Rick and Todd. Walkinshaw enjoyed success again when Rick Kelly won the 2006 V8 title and Garth Tander won in 2007. There was controversy over his dealings with multiple touring car and Bathurst champion Skaife, who was leasing the cars, engines and staff from Walkinshaw. In 2007 Walkinshaw Performance took a 50 per cent stake in HRT and swallowed the remaining half the following year. The company currently operates the HRT and Bundaberg Red Supercar teams. Walkinshaw, who last visited Australia two months ago, died of cancer.

The majority of potential newcomers to the sport are driving MX5’s or Clubmans sad really, would be great to see more imports at each round and some younger people out there having fun. Most of the field would be over 35 I would say and a lot are over 50 years old. So if we can get more imports to each round there would be a good chance the rules would start to change to suit Nissan imports
-
It dose base Type 1 & 2 on Production Cars you just need to read the full set of 2011 regs all 28 pages Here they are: http://www.supersprints.com.au/rules-and-r...icle%20Regs.pdf
-
In regards to the above imported S15 and R32 GTR not being able to run in Type 1 & 2 due to the meaning of Production Car in the regulations not being road registered through dealer network Production Car means an a mass-produced automobile, the model of which is or has been commercially available to the general public in Australia as a new car, capable of Road Registration, through a manufacturer’s dealer network, and (a) at least 200 examples of such model must have been Road Registered, and (b) at least 200 examples of such model must have been produced in a 12 consecutive month period. Have just had a chat to my father who was on the panel but my older brother (Allan) has taken his place and they would been keen to push for this to be re- worded to allow imports that were sold in Aust to run in Type 1-2 So someone wanted to send an email to the Supersprint panel for a clarification for the cars that were sold in Australia but are also available as a Japanese Import and are standard and comply with Type 1 & 2 rules are able to run in this I reckon there is good chance this can change. Like I have said before it’s all about numbers and if this would bring another few cars out to compete I’m sure they would change it. Duncan unsure of the mods on your R32 GTR but if this was changed would your car be legible to run in Type 2?

You can lodge a claim with your Insurance Company if you have full comprehensive and let them do the talking with them, but at the end you may have to pay your excess pending how much it is to if this would be worth while.

Emailed to you Neil.

It’s a bit late now but the Supersprint Panel had a meeting last night, would have been good to get that email in for that.. I wonder how many people did complain about the R35 running this year to make them change the rules for next year
-
Sorry guys if my previous responses made no sense have had a major lack of sleep over the last 2 weeks with a newborn baby at home now. 3 hours a night is not good. Hope you can read this. I’m not arguing the point the rules are right. I don’t like them, but I look at the whole picture to keep other people running in the championship. And with 150+ registrants entered this year most there has ever been, maybe the panel believe it suits most people. I maybe would have not bought my Mazda R100 if I could have been competitive in SV running my GTR, but was never going to be as fast as someone like Stuart who is a great driver in a developed GTR and keeping my GTR as a nice road car. So yes the rules don’t cater for a lightly modified 4WD import in SV so looked for somthing else and found the Mazda Duncan, The other point you make about registrants not being canvassed on the rule changes. Well this is the thing that shits me! And one of the main reasons my father is leaving the panel this year, I may get in trouble writing this but it pisses me off. The response my father got at the meeting when he asked how may people where asked over the new rules was “We have done a survey and this is what most people wanted” How many people did you ask? “Not sure but a few”. I know many people that are not happy that outright is gone, but was very surprised to find out on the weekend while at the Supersprint presentation speaking to some EVO owners they were more than happy and their exact words “We cannot run as fast as a R35 and have no chance winning.” Maybe they were part of the panel’s survey who knows? Stuart and Duncan, sorry my mistake on the SV meaning now days, I always still believed meant small volume as per originally intended when class was first made. Don’t look at those class rules anymore as I don’t run my GTR in it. Also Stuart the other people that will not be running in the championship due panel changing the rules could you please PM their names if possible. Maybe instead of talking about it on forums we send in emails to the panel to advise of the issues. This is the only way things may change or join the panel and attend the meetings.

If you referring to the field in the State Supersprint Championship yes it’s a full class but SV does not stand for Special Vehicle, so they don’t need to be special, Its means Small Volume for small volume imports and kit cars or road cars with unlimited mods. Yes it would be nice to allow imports back into the other classes, I would go buy one and run in type 2 so I can win something but would turn others away. I also would love to run my GTR in Type 3 with no restrictor and good R tyres and could win that class to maybe, but then once again would start to piss of V8 and rotaries guys. People will get upset every time a rule changes and some will be happy. As for the Panel Members they are elected to go on the Panel once they send in their nomination form that has closed for this year, At present I believe the panel is still not full can have another 3 or 4 people on there, I was pushing Duncan (LSX-438) to send in a form to get on the panel but for his own reasons with the new rules did not want get involved, They are all just volunteers and don’t get paid so if you would like to make a difference and get the rules back on track to suit imports please send in your nomination form.
