I understand your argument, the main thing I'd like to point out tho is that the cops who defect have a right to do so... not everyone who wears the uniform has mechanical knowledge and they operate on reasonable doubt. If they reasonably doubt the car is legal, then they'll defect to send to regency (aka the experts *guffaw*) to get it clarified. What sucks isn't so much that they have the power to defect, my major gripe is that regency charges you money for it. So if you get defected because the cop doesnt know, then it costs you money (on top of any further fines the officer wishes to give). If regency dropped the tarrif, I'd happily take my car thru there. Considering the windfall this government has had on speeding tickets since the 50kph limit was introduced, I think its something that might be able to be looked at. I myself have had 3 speeding tickets over the last 18 months and they were ALL for doing under 60kph in a 50 zone. Fair enough I hear you say, however some of these zones were woefully marked, and/or occurred during a natural transition from 60 to 50. That sorta policy turns everyday drivers into criminals. To think I've lost a quarter of my demerit points upon this basis only (12 demerit points, 1 point per fine - really sucks). So, Mr Rann has gotten over $600 from me - surely they can't argue that they can't afford to subsidize the running costs of regency? Kate Ellis works near my house. I may have to book an appointment with her and have a good old fashioned whinge. -D

I do. Tho my car is a street car only, I still have cooling modifications (oil, water)... the extra heat really only kills you at the track, during street driving the most hot weather does is reduce the efficiency of combustion due to higher air temps.... just remember, the engine gets hot from the combusion inside it which always exceeds the ambient temperature around it.... provided you have enough heat exchange with your radiator and possible oil cooler, you shouldn't have any issues. There is a power loss on hot days (aircon being one but ability for intercooler to chill the air being another) but in street driving all you gotta do is give it a bit more revs to compensate and everythings fine... Car has never overheated yet, but having said that I did recently upgrade to an ISC radiator and N1 water pump, new hoses and new nissan glycol based coolant. Already noticed a very slight drop in temperature in average daily driving but haven't yet driven it it 40'c+ weather - I'm sure they'll both cope Caveat - If you spend your 'street' driving around 6000-7000 rpm then yeah u might have issues ;P -D

yeah i purchased a $4.95 trial membership on a file trading website... only problem was, once the cc details had billed, i didn't get any email correspondence. I checked the username password on the website and logged in, only to discover I'd been duped into some russian bit torrent site. Fair enough I thought, $5 isnt that much to lose.. I just sent in an email requesting termination of the account (which is enough in any legal system). Again, no reply. Then 2 weeks later, I get 2x $65 billed to my CC. I was spitting chips. Went to the bank and they tore up my CC and reissued with a new number and then referred it off to Visa. I've gotten the $15 back for the interest I was charged but no word yet on the $130 (it takes several weeks from what I've been told)... hoping it comes thru ok, these dodgy websites really shit me. It was a total conjob (aka you register for www.filesharing.com, log into the website and it directs you to www.platinumxxx.com.ru or something equally as dodgy) -D EDIT - Speak of the devil - just got a letter from the bank stating that the cash has been xferred, checked the account and sure enough its sitting in there... If I didn't have such a bad case of pharyngitis I'd be buyin a beer to celebrate haha. Ohwell. Just gonna have to get a full tank of 98RON instead ;0

depends on how much power the engine has. yeah there is a power loss when the compressor engages but if you have 220kw then you're not likely to notice it much... other trick is to use 'econ' instead of 'a/c' to cool the car. it just sets the compressor temperature a tad higher (2 degrees I think) and that keeps the compressor from activating as much -D

Yeah... and I spent 6 months trying to figure out WTF was wrong till steve posted me that link up above with the DIY howto... Once I had the unit out, the dry joints were very visible.. got a mate to solder them for me, took him all of 5 minutes... Well worth doing when the heat of summer hits (last summer I had to use open-window aircon which SUCKED) but now its all done, I'm very happy to have AC back - you don't realize how much u love it till its gone Sure, it might take you half a day but if it saves you several hundred dollars, give it a shot! -D

nah u didnt miss anything just a bunch of dudes with sandy ginas' to quote saddam hussein "RELAAAX, Guy!" -D

No. Its a whiteboard (when someone puts a static image up for a purpose - usually to display a takedown notice). Cmon, you cant tell me you guys missed that faint grey 'www.nocleanfeed.com' ? I think people are using it to prove a point. -D EDIT - A quick check of the website source code says it all. <html> <body> <center><img src="takedown.jpg"></center> </body> </html> Maybe theyre the victim of someone compromising their FTP server and uploading a new index.html but I think this is more an inside job considering the crudeness of the image ;P EDIT 2 - Or maybe someone just decided to test out the april fools joke 4 days too early...

No Fail Epic Win For Steves Cadbury Grin (Thats as good as I get when it comes to haikus) -D

Point taken but I daresay if his gtr was imported under the 15 year rule (89/90) then he's exempt from the 1990's emission laws and only needs his exhaust to measure legal noise limit... pods secured are ok etc etc, splitting hairs here but its important to note that theres rarely any consistency in the law between makes and models (aside from the obvious) -D

partial leak in the heater core or an leak in the ventilation hosing leading to some precipitation inside the pipe - I would guess at a long long long shot -D

any auto electrician should be able to do it -D

the trust one that ISC sells will handle just about anything you can throw at it same too with the ARC ones from JJ -D

Yep its a common problem with R32's The problem is actually inside the Hot/Cold mix door actuator (aka the motor and control unit that decides how much hot/cold air to let in). You'll find this module over the gearbox but up against the firewall between the two leg areas in the front area... There is a guide here somewhere which tells you what to do, but its a 5 minute soldering job (to fix the dry joints) Problem is, it takes a fair while to get to the unit - perhaps a professional can do it fast but it took me a couple of hours to get to it... -D

sad thing is theyre more preoccupied with britney and other b grade celebrities than reporting real world events that have any relevance makes me feel sorry for the sapol media liasons getting their words twisted or blown out of proportion... politicians feed on that stuff like vultures to a land mine victim -D

+1 for Neil's message. Tho tbh I'm not worried as my car is virtually undefectable (yes I know there are ignorant people out there would would happily slap a canary on me but I've never had any trouble in the past... that and I'm much more rotund than most of you, police know me and my car are built for comfort and not speed -D Edit : Not having a go at you nene, but I love it how someone dies and it becomes a tragedy *sigh*... just like the newspaper "STOP THE CARNAGE" - have these people ever been to Iraq ? Josef Stalin - "One death is a tragedy. A million deaths is a statistic"

What sized stilettos do you wear? -D

If you're referring to conficker, its due to polymorph on the 4th however most AV companies are on top of it (and MS has released a patch to help prevent damage).. I for one have been home all day with pharyngitis. If only I could run AVG on my tonsils I'd be much happier. -D

did you leave your peer to peer software running? optus and telstra both charge uploads as part of their 'acceptible usage policy' (usually= download limit but since they charge for uploads too, you might very well be screwed here) -D
-
yeah optus aren't much better tho at 15c a meg you'd be wondering why you were charged a grand instead of $150 -D
-
If you're with tel$tra, then yes, it'll be around a grand... they charge stupendous data rates above the set data limit. They charged me and my housemate $1200 twice when they implemented a 3gig limit on their ADSL back in 2002 (where previously it was 'unlimited')... but since they were utter conniving scumbags about how they did it (without informing their users) we had the ACCC on their backs and they refunded all the excess costs.. Tel$tra are scumbags... theres no way around it, theyre absolutely utter immoral bastards, so I'm real glad they've (hopefully) lost the national broadband rollout... Telecom was incompetent back in the day. As soon as they privatised, they became incompentent and money hungry. Never a good combination. -D
