  2. Red Cross is also after extra blood - I know several of us gave blood less than 3 months ago but they might make an exception in this case - could possibly help if we get more folks? Anyone keen to organize? Andrew? -D EDIT - Must be a shitload of people volunteering because their hotline has been engaged for the last 30 minutes. Will keep trying and find out if we can get a date at modbury again.

  4. Yeah +1 to that. Throw the book at them (or set the bastards on fire).... fundraiser would be good but I dunno how far we can go with our general SAU turnout.. then again even a small amount of cash would be better than nothing... could do a BBQ like Damo suggested? Everyone brings a plate of food/meat and $10? Then donate the cash to salvos or red cross or some other charity that's helping people out -D

  20. Now thats just cynical baby boomer nonsense pete ;P Too bad all the hippies became merchant bankers. Think positive! Breathe! Push! Push harder! I can almost see the head! Breathe! That is a valid point - and yeah, its a significant thing to be greatful for, but that isnt going to be pursuasive to people as time goes by. If a great nation turns into an "bad" regime then people are going to put more creedence in recent events rather than historical events. 50 years down the track, that generation will have their own history to use as a reference - the history that we're a part of. its not like america ever gives thanks to france for their assistance during the American-Canadian wars and the War of Independance lol.... And then theres the point of, if you have a favourable experience 9 times and one bad one, you'll always have a tendency to remember the bad over the good. its human instinct - one of self preservation. -D Funny thing did just occur to me - America thanks France for the statue of liberty more than the men they sent to die in the wars. Thats consumerism right there folks haha
  21. HAHAHAHA Rick Rolled.... nice one damo You bastard -D
  22. I agree with most of that post u just put down but this is a load of shit. If your friends are jumping off a cliff, are you gonna jump off too? Peer pressure on a national scale anyone? A friend will help you go to war. A true friend will tell you when you're out of line. Seriously, what is it with the mentality that America is our only ally in the world? Do they say jump, and we say 'how high? sir?' No. The dynamics of military power are changing. Americans themselves were aware that the invasion of iraq was a mistake, based upon false assertions - and we did not challenge those assertions one bit. To this day, they have not found a single WMD, and the UN Weapons inspectors that were saying that there were no WMD's, were saying so for MONTHS before the invasion took place. If there were, the UN would have had egg on its face, but history has vindicated that position. The fact we just went along with it, without listening to the people who have done their job inspecting weapons all over the world for the last 3 decades, means that we are as morally culpable as the yanks. And they at least have come to their senses and decided that an exit strategy is something that should be planned for - and we're not talking about deadlines, or conditions, simple the research into how to remove their forces from Iraq. In 50 years time, America probably wont be a power worth comparing with China. And if the Chinese start respecting democracy and human rights, then everyone in the world would be aligning themselves with them. We are already, through business and trade. And militarily, America has changed its own strategy three times within the last decade. The first was to have a military capable of a war on two fronts (War on two fronts = bad, just ask hitler). Two, they changed it to the star wars doctrine, having mobile weapons platforms on land and sea and in space. And just recently, theyve found out that this doesnt help them one bit, because they abolished conscription and now have an all volunteer army - great for saving headaches and the political fallout (because conscription is universally loathed) but it does solve the age old question of recruiting enough bodies to put in boots and deploy in the field (on that note, theyve also discovered that its better to have a smaller, well trained military than a single mass of soldiers - Australia knew this last century and we still have some of the best trained soldiers (general infantry) in the world, second probably only to the Israelis. So no, I reject that assertion that we should help our allies unswervingly. There are many things changing, and no empire, no kingdom and certainly no political dominance is everlasting and enduring. I'm personally glad that America has rejected the republican/Bush doctrine of neo conservatism and the American Empire. After WW2 people admired the Americans, not because they had turned the tide of the war, but because they were morally right. And hopefully, Mr Obama might be able to get it back on track, because people respect Morality and Wisdom more than they respect Might. To quote yoda ... "War does not make one great" -D
  23. Well I can't say I'm a fan of either party. I voted for Howard over Keating, and regretted it ever since. I voted for Rudd over Howard, and am starting to regret it. Basically all politicians are spineless. And if you vote only on party ideology, you're generally going to get a raw deal. No one party has ever catered to me, and thats why I'm a perpetually swinging voter*. I guess I'd better get used to the disappointment, because K. Rudd hasn't fufilled a lot of election promises, is relatively spineless when it comes to the environment, and has no bloody idea about the economy. Only a true moron would say that Labor is the cause of this economical problems, and people can't say that Howard made the deficit disappear- However the approaches to economic handling are very visible when you look at the budgets - as noted before, the libs tend to focus on the economy, and labor tends to focus on the infrastructure. Labor has an ideology of socialism (universal health care, government owned assets ala Electricity and Telecoms) where as the libs are into privatisation and divestment of potential liabilities. Neither is without fault. And neither are better for the common worker, be they blue or white collar. At the end of the day, Howard got voted out due to moral issues. He got a bit blase with his leadership and felt he didn't have to answer to public opinion, and in the end the public tossed him out, whether it be for the children overboard nonsense or his political pandering to the racist base of Pauline Hanson, or his involvement in the farcical WMD search and subsequent invasion/occupation of Iraq. You can have as much money in the bank as you can collect, but it won't make people like you if you're a twat. I'm not sorry to see him gone, but I'm totally disappointed with Rudd. I was annoyed when howard decided to give out a baby bonus, and K.Rudd's little ploy isnt much better. Sure, I'll take that $950 off the govt (damnit I missed out on a baby bonus - r32's dont count), but I'll be paying off credit card debt- and that alone doesn't stimulate the economy (Turnbull is right on that, but rather spineless on other matters which is why he and his party are totally irrelevant atm)... Politics. The whole business leaves me with a bitter taste in my mouth, and its not the pleasant beer flavoured bitter that I've come to know and love. -D *No I do not go to sex parties with other swinging voters.
  24. http://www.smh.com.au/news/entertainment/p...3423292159.html "Clarkson dismissed cricket as a game invented by people who didn't have enough to do," Hahahahahaha, pwnt.
  25. Looks like partisan political propaganda to me. That said, K.Rudd is a clueless dickhead. -D
