my favourite is "Newborn Poo", the mix between green and brown that really stands the fsck out... Anyone whos had a kid will know hahaha -D

He's referring to the gearbox gear ratios. The OS Giken kit has a different ratio. I'm not sure whether it revs out easier or not, but I'm suspecting its for drag racers? The OS Giken stuff is one of a couple of rebuild kits. Either that or you buy a brand new OEM box for $3200... or find the bits and pieces you need as components and assemble it as new... -D

Your best bet (imho) for anything serious is for you to buy a shagged box which already requires a rebuild and buy the OS Giken 5 speed kit. And get someone reputable to do it (Rowell & Searle, Precision Gearbox & Diff). Labour is never going to be cheap, and if you're rebuilding with good stuff, it'll definately cost you... that said, in 4-5 weeks I'll be removing my current box to fit a replacement, so if you wanna grab a box needing a rebuild, send me a message -D

Replacement Box For Gtr With Engine Mod
Dohmar replied to Dohmar's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Thats probably the best advice recieved yet. I'm lucky that a kind member out there has offered his s3 r33 gtr box to me at an excellent price, and I'll be taking him up on that offer. To me its more secure than the uncertainty of the random used box at a wreckers... I don't drive hard compared to the average SAU'er, so I think once I get that box and the jim berry clutch fit, I wont have a problem. And I'll never use that redline crap. Only minerals and semi synths for me. 4 weeks till a new gearbox. I cannot bloody wait. I'm so damn sick of crunching gears. I'll be selling my old box for $500 odd as a donor system if anyone is interested. Synchros are 90% dead but the gears themselves are in good condition (by the feel of it, I honestly don't have much idea about mechanical components). Either I sell it as is or get it rebuilt but in either case I'll have a box free in 2 months time if anyone wants dibs on it. -D -
This is what I have as my wallpaper atm. Its a photo taken last decade during one of the many peacekeeper tests. The peacekeeper is a MIRV, many warheads per single rocket. Each one of those arcs can potentially mean a nuclear explosion of 30x the hiroshima a-bomb. Here, the glow is from re-entry, as all the MIRV's are inert for the purpose of the test. A pretty sight for an ugly reality.

I live near Oakden. I'll take a short drive tomorrow and see if I can see anything. -D

I got a stock R32 GTR ECU... -D

Yeah I think that was Writeoff in his grey GTR when his big end bearing went -D

I've been to rowell and searle before when I needed work done on my 31's auto. IIRC they don't do manuals? Can someone confirm this? Either way, I was very happy with the work done. They did a good job -D
-
Same, I called them today and they recommended I call "Precision Differentials and Gearbox" on Port Road... Will call them later, interested to know if they can do it for under a grand... probably not tho.. How hard is it to pull a gbox apart and replace the bits? I don't care if it takes a long time, but if it needs special equipment/experience then I'd have to give it a miss.. -D
-
Dunno but I'm keen to know too., Its either I get a $1200 2nd hand box (of which the condition I dont know) or get my current box fixed (which is synchros mainly, and possibly bearings) Any ideas? -D

Replacement Box For Gtr With Engine Mod
Dohmar replied to Dohmar's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Yeah I got a 6puk Jim Berry clutch on its way for when I do fit the replacement box... with my old box, would it be worth selling as a shagged box to someone or getting it fixed incase I stuff up the replacement? Going to go with a stock 32 box, cant really afford 3.2k -D -
So where do i get an official Kiet mask from? -D

I'd have to agree with Chris here. There is a >huge< difference between "a bloke who can put a speaker in a car" to a pro audio fitter. And unless you're prepared to support the product you sell, don't bother. I work in IT; if you cant support the products you sell on any level, you're dooomed. Even wholesalers have dedicated support departments these days, and they expect the people they deal with to be competent and experienced. If you're happy to make a career of it, then I say do it. But make sure you do it right, cause if you don't it'll bite you. And if you do it well, the word of mouth business will be more than enough to live off. Its not a job for amateurs or people who just wanna make a 5% on each piece. -D

I'm interested as to what u get for yr alt. Mine was rebuilt for $250 odd by a local auto electrician. I had it die on me 4 times before I popped a gasket and had a good old fashioned whinge. First time they blamed the bearing. Second time they blamed the contacts. Third time they blamed the wiring. Fourth time they blamed the diodes. And then they tried to tell me that the alternator was dying because I "drove the car at very high revs". cops arse. Anyhow, I'm not quite convinced that this alt is the goods. Theres an amp rating for alts which affects the rate of charge. I dont know the values of stock or replacement units, but keep an eye out. Would be interested to know price and part numbers incase a replacement is required... Thanks -D

Glovebox On R32gtr Doesn't Sit Flush With Dash
Dohmar replied to Marko R1's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
yeah i have this too. i dont know how to fix it. I dont know if its the 'dash rise' thing older dashes experience or just something needs tightening. will watch to see what u guys find -D -
If you press the demister it'll do two things; turn aircon on, and blow it out thru the front vents. It keeps the temp to whatever is already set, so if you want you can do it manually; Press the 'fan' button till u have enuff fan that u want, press the 'mode' button so the air redirects to the front and then adjust the heating settings as required. That should work Reason it turns aircon on is because once the air is conditioned, the air has less moisture in it (since the car uses refrigerative aircon as opposed to evaporative) and that lack of moisture will clear the screen no matter what temp the air is. Of course tho, you'd have to wonder what genius didn't also program the demister button function to turn the heat up. Nothing worse than airconditioning in a frosty winter morning... -D

Replacement Box For Gtr With Engine Mod
Dohmar replied to Dohmar's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I do a little bit of heel/toe when going around a corner but really not much. I just drive around the city and try not to draw attention to myself. I've never double clutched (dont know anything about it). The previous owner did abuse the shite out of the box which is why they had the redline shockproof gunk in it. Its mainly the synchros which are rooted, the gears themselves feel really good. Just shifting into gear after acceleration can cause the grind... if I let the engine rev down to 3-4 it usually slips in OK but anything above 4k is grind city... Im mainly just curious cause the extra power I want to draw later on when I get turbos replaced. I don't think I need the OSG kit at all, and if the stock GTR boxes are as ballsy as their reputation leads me to believe, then I should be ok. Bear in mind its an 18 yr old gearbox which has undoubtably been thrashed out by its previous owner... thats the way I look at it at least. So if I can get a decent 2nd hand box I should be ok.... otherwise its synchro+thrust bearing replacement (which is probably more expensive?) Not too sure really... -D -
I'd hardly call it that. A single complaint is not a continuous complaint. 2 speeding fines in a year is not constantly speeding. And it says on the form that the fee is only applicable after 14 days. I too, can see a very simple solution. STFU. -D
-
yeah pretty lame, considering I got another one 6 months ago, 121 in a "100" zone (of course it was the part where the 100-110 transition happens). Not happy jan. Seriously considering buying a VDO speed alert so I don't get retarded. -D
-
Yeah I was taking the GTR out that day to go to Birdwood Motor Museum for a work function.... (and I was sadly disappointed, so much Holden propaganda, grr). I was on 60 the entire frigging time except for that time I went into the inside lane to avoid some slow bastard in a caravan. So yeah. I got reamed that day. *simmers* -D
-
Well I got shitty when I paid my speeding fine 1 day late and got slugged another $28. f**king bastards. May they all contract cancer.

mmHGx`1000, its a measure of mercury pressure at sea level. Pointless in automotive application tbh since bar and psi are much much easier (mmHG and bar are both metric, psi is imperial). I too would like to find out what needs to be done, cause mmHG is craptastic. -D

Well my dad was a member of viet vets and has friends in both VV and Ulysses... theyre all straight people, so if they get affected by this it'll do absolutely nothing positive for the community. As far as the association rules, I think theyre a load of BS personally. It totally contrary to democratic ideal of 'free assembly' and since its one of those moronic state laws, it'd most likely get overthrowin in the supreme court (if of course you have the money to chase such a goal.) In either case, its a pre-emptive punishment for a marginal group in society, who have not been proved guilty of anything illegal. Thats why its such a waste of money. Whatever comes of this, it'll just meen months of legal wrangling until it inevitably gets thrown out of court. Magistrates are going to be doing a lot of verbal bashing the police prosecution in the next year I think... we might not have a bill of rights but we do have 100 years of legal precedence to draw from, and this is clearly outside the box. -D
