R32 Gtr Parts For Sale
Dohmar replied to Godzilla32's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
I'm after the drivers side aircon vent, one close to the door... any chance u got that? -D -
Hicas provides active feedback to the steering wheel... think Force Feedback on an arcade game...you know there are no kinetic forces but the actuators are giving you more of a feel... faster u go, the stiffer the steering gets, which is ideal... one of the worst things about power steering is the overresponsiveness (is that a word?) at high speed... hicas mitigates this to a degree thru the steering wheel (or Boss kit if u get an aftermarket system).... theres another forum thread which goes thru the ins and outs of hicas... basically it helps when you're an inexperienced race driver or an everyday driver... if you do any serious track work, chances are your skills will be higher than required for hicas, however that said, hicas can cause a very steep, very quick corner exit if you have the skills for it, as even a small amount of rear wheel toe in has a significant effect on cornering (Apparently, Dont look at me for details, im a noob)... No doubt it un-nerves anyone whos not used to it, but once u get used to it you'll wonder how you lived without it... as mentioned before, nissan have kept hicas since the r31, so I really doubt theres any convincing reason to get a lock bar, aside from finances, or superultramegahardcore racing I have hicas problems at the moment myself. im hoping when i get time to calibrate the system It'll come good, otherwise I'd rather spend the money to get the hicas fixed good and proper. Lock bars are for the hardcore, and i'm not hardcore. -D

I know how u feel man. My first car was an aussie R31....i did so many mods to it, custom made LSD diff from boss auto engineering, auto to manual conversion, lowering, mags, etc etc... about $10k mods.... i wrote the bastard off while turning into prospect road from grand junction at 20kph (i shit you not) and the rear slipped out, car did a 270' and i was wedged between a tree and the bus stop. Really not cool. I had comprehensive insurance but they only covered me for the $4k that the car was worth. A painful lesson, but Im glad you'll be able to get another. I had to settle for a VN commodore for 3 yrs (and I now have a hate-on for all holdens)... chin up, I know its no consolation but the fact it wasnt due to stupidity is something you can take as a positive.. -D

Hear Hear! And yeah, if u can salvage some parts off it, i'm sure I can take a few off your hands... pm me if you're able to get it back -Doh

castor rod bushes -always need replacing on all r32's, often new hoses, new radiator (as begun to corrode) - age related, once per 10 yrs def needs a paint job - cosmetic, not required front bumber scratched a lil and not fitted properly - cosmetic, can be done same time the paint job is done wheel alignment, new tires - a result of having poor castor rod bushes it idles quite rough and 1 of the belts slips when i start her up. im up for spending money on my car but i dont want to spend the amount i paid for it on making it run 100%.. im after advice and opinions... cheers peps. regardless of the amount u spend, it'll be the exact same cost and the exact same sort of stuff that goes wrong... perhaps its more well spent on a gtr than a gts but apples and oranges...ive spent $6k on my gtr in the last 8 months and it was in a good condition when I got it. Truth is the 32's are getting long in the tooth and they need some TLC from time to time to keep em purring -D

You dont need to do any mechanical mods to GTR's to dyno on 2wd, just pull out the ATTESSA fuse and the car goes to 2wd. Besides the dynotune is working on the engine, only needs one set of feedback from the rears to work (the only benefit in getting a 4wd dyno is that you can compare the power loss from the front driveshaft/diff assembly.. same way u can get it dynoed at the flywheel or the rear wheels, its just a question of application.) If you're north of the city, I'd recommend Road & Track in collins st, enfield, their dyno guy Mikey has done excellent work on my gtr, from pulling 15 more kw out of thin air to getting rid of power sags. If you're down south tho, boostworx is the way to go (ive never been there but given the feedback on this board, he knows his stuff and doesnt charge an arm and a leg for it) -D

Oils - Engine, Gearbox, Which Ones And Where To Get?
Dohmar replied to Ionos's topic in South Australia
She's right. The redline shockproof doesnt lubricate the synchros as well as it should, and they end up wearing out. The viscosity/composition of the oil makes the gearbox feel like its smoother but its actually just losing the feel from the gearbox to the stick.. I took my GTR to Road & Track in Enfield (my mechanics) and when it came time to do the service, they pulled the plug out and the shockline stuff came out. Its an aquamarine sludge, and the mechanic who was looking at it just goes 'ahh shit not this stuff...' Turns out my gearbox does need a minor rebuild (new synchros) but it'll last a bit longer with the oil they put in... $0.02 -D -
Heh v/nice car man... Also saw a white r34 citybound along north east road in front of the OG hotel/OG oval. Driver gave me thumbs up, i was too busy perving on the car to react -D

Heh yeah, theyre pricey but theyre worth it As to the speeding question. when I got my gtr the first thing i did was drive it to moonta, at night, in the middle of a class 4 storm (aka rain, thunder, major wind) and took the back route from pt wakefield to moonta. It stuck to the road, and i had perfect feedback, at no time did i feel unsafe. I know I could have gone faster but thats not the point, I was having a great time cruising at a pace the car was happy with. Now when I had my r31, even after dropping 4k on rims and suspension/brake upgrades, the 180 kph i did on burra to adelaide road was much scarier. As noted, speeding on public roads is probably not the best thing to do if you want to keep your licence, your life and your car. Not to mention any poor sods who might be in your path. Im not going to stand on a podium and preach BS to you, cause Ive done it myself... just, with age you get to realize how much power our cars do put out, and how fragile the human body is. Its fun as hell to drive fast, but its not worth your life or anyone elses. Sure enough we might have cars that are highly engineered and tuned to be able to safely travel at a high speed, but theres a time and a place for everything. I dont think ya'll should be so hard on viet, I've done much stupider things in my time. The man had the courage to admit it and acknowledge it wasnt such a bright idea. And as previously noted, port wakefield road is pretty much >the< road to go fast on in south australia. If he did that speed on rundle street, it'd be a hugely different story. The rest of the roads in SA suck nuts. And I agree with writeoff, we NEED AN AUTOBAHN. Would preserve the damage upon rural routes between major cities, would save time, and since our truckies wouldnt be snorting near as much meth, probably be a hell of a lot safer. AND, it'd give us a LEGAL way to crank our babies to the 300 kph mark. 3 lanes from Perth to Syd. As straight as possible. If we had an autobahn it'd certainly prevent a lot of fatalities, especially where pedestrians and cyclists are concerned. Keep the 'bahn for trucks and private vehicles and super bikes, and you'll probably have a good arterial route. Of course, the argument agsinst that, is that Aus is a shitload bigger than germany, that our temperature extremes have inordinate wear and tear on our roads and that if we did happen to build an autobahn across aus, that if there was an accident it'd be so large that getting emergency services to a crash site would be a difficult thing... I for one will lobby my local MP within the next week. I reckon ya'll should do the same. Can you imagine an autobahn from perth to sydney? How cool would that be? Excuses aside, if we can send dudes to the moon, we can get some smart guy to lay a road across oz. And viet I hope u dont sell ur GTR, you'll find the loss of licence goes faster than you'd think. Public transport does suck, but it'll be a good incentive to get ur CAMS licence, a helmet and some track time at mallala -D
