Guys We're talking about n1's they have the same f**king compression wheel as an r33 gtr and and a slightly bigger exhaust turbine than the ceramic version that still fits the 0.48 housing, and it just happens to be metal, meaning u can boost it over 14 psi these are not rs turbos let alone -5's or high mount single ball busters farks sake theyre equivalent to -7 2860's next thing you'll be trying to convince me that the bogeyman is real and yes mate, i keep the car under 3500 rpm when im driving in traffic, i hardly think accelerating up a dudes arse and then slamming on th brakes is anything to be proud of, and I have a straight pipe exhaust so i try like hell to keep it as quiet as possible -D

Im quite calm pete, maybe step back for a minute and realize that every post i put down isnt about you. i know your history, i know u know engines, but to say you can teach a man older than you whos been building engines before you yourself had hair on your nuts its pretty rich. i think u need to step back and take a deep breath. For your information, I never hammered my car in the hills or otherwise. I dont drive as hard as half of the heroes out there. I dont know whats so abhorrent that I can admit im not a hardcore driver and then everyone assumes i dont do my research. Fact is, I respect my car too much to push it so hard that it gets damaged. Thats why I've spent over $25,000 on the car over the last 3 years. Does that not count as to nursing the fk out of a car? I really dont know what point you're trying to make. You've totally lost me. And if anyone thinks I'm running anything on knifes edge simply does not appreciate the dialogue I maintain with my tuner. Yes the valve timing was out, however it was within a safe tolerance and was running rich to a factor of 11:1 - which is hardly a ratio to worry about -D

this is true however ive done enough research to know that in either case, the strength of the block is nowhere near as important as getting a balanced long nose crank with a decent harmonic balancer, H beam forged conrods and forged pistons. i quite like the nitto kit but tbh its overkill for what i will ever use it for -D

yer got several http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/43039-darton-sl...rb26-block.html http://www.skylineowners.com/test/showthre...-Head-and-Block http://www.nissanforums.com/nissan-gtr-sky...26dett-awd.html http://www.skylineowners.com/test/showthre...r-32-33-engines "The early 32 blocks up until February 1990 (correct me if im wrong) had a wall thickness that was the same as the groupA racers in Japan. After that Nissan decided to cut the thickness of the block with cost cutting as one of the main reasons for mass production of the engine. Also, r32 cranks are known to have a very thin drive collar connecting onto the oil pump. This was revised on 33's afaik (to what extent im unsure), and on 34's they were given a new design with a much improved widened collar. As a visual on 33 RB26's, the breather pipe coming from the RHS cam breather was a steel pipe compared with the rubber one of the R32's." -D -EDIT Troy Ive never gone on boost in peak hour because I keep it under 3500. I wont have that problem.

Its all very well for you pseudo mechanics to sit back on the forum and make estimates as to what my engine can and cannot do I happen to have the estimates confirmed by road and track as well as the guy whos making the turbo the compression test indicates all cylinders are within 10psi of each other, and having paid as much attention to the rb26 performance thread as you Andrew, I know for a fact that 300kw is not pushing a set of N1's by an stretch of the imagination i for one will trust the advice of the very mechanic that has worked on the car for the last 3 years, rather than a bunch of armchair tuners who never even looked underneath the hood incidentally, i have the first series of rb26's from the nissan factory. my vin no is 3129/89. The block is as known to be as strong as an N1. Theres no f**king way Im going to blow a f**king piston thru the f**king side of the f**king block, and you know why? Cos i spend the f**king money on f**king tuning and never let anything run lean.... case f**king closed.... You guys are like a bunch of italian grandmothers trying to stop their granddaughters from getting some dick in em -D

i dont have stock ecu - i have nistune i dont have stock afms - i have nismo i dont have stock injectors - have 575's im not saying i necessarily have to be running 20 psi over the entire pwer curve - its probably only required for a very specific section between 5 and 6k rpm the fact im getting 180kw on 10psi rather than the 14psi/180kw i had after i changed the injectors is a good sign, esp since the car today ran like it had been kicked in the scrote - no doubt once the n1's are fitted and shaun gets his hands on the tune, we can get a nice result - if it doesnt make 300kw i couldnt give a shit, i just want it to be responsive and reliable -D Edit - and popping cooler hoses off during peak hour? cmon man i dont even get my car on boost during peak hour, let alone enough to generate max boost

the 4wd? id be a bit scared given the top heavy weight dist ;P unless u ended up getting that 32 gtr.. luke- if u wanna meet me at hahndorf in a few weeks (after the cars tuned) i'll take u on my route and you can incorporate what u want out of it (if any) -D -

Supercharged Mopeds need not apply. -D -
nonsense - up to 22psi is ok for a stock engine in decent nick, i know of other people with n1 turbos which have been able to run 20 psi on the track with stock afms and ecu, doing 320odd kw for over 3 years reliably. ive planned a rebuild for 2012 - going to 2.7lt with forged goodies and proper oil control - if it does happen to blow some rings or something minor, i wont be fussed about doing it earlier - will go for nitto pistons, oil pump, get enlarged sump, welch plug return, mines head journals, autech catch can, etc around $7k worth of parts which I'll accumulate over 2011... got enough stuff to do this year without messing with the engine (after the n1s get fitted and tuned) but ive done all the proper supporting mods to safely run 20psi and do a conservative high 200/low 300 kilowatt setup -D

i bet some of the cars u worked on that were under 60k were capable of some mind boggling performance -D -
Yep, precisely Worked until I actually had to do something that required the nistune - Been told from multiple sources that 20psi is more than fine for N1's, even as a daily, provided it tapers off at the higher revs - but you are right, going to 300kw is going to kick arse and hopefully make up for all the weeks when ive had no cash cos ive blown it on car parts -D

Heyas Well a few of u guys know that I've been having "issues" with my gtr for the last year or so figured out it was due to incorrectly set factory TDC value on the cams, which had been hacked in the ecu to get it to run right (thanks Century20...asshats) heres a rundown of the last few months Firstly, Car had std everything, was pulling 210kw at 14psi when i bought it, which was normal. after a couple of years the stock injectors started to leak, and that forced me to buy new ones, so I figured a cheap upgrade would be worthwhile - 575cc upgrade was cheaper than 444cc, however this necessitated a retune and for a retune to be possible, a nistune daughterboard was required. Before I had the nistune, my mechanic reduced the fuel rail pressure to lean out the flow so it wasnt running so rich which was great. I got some economy but it was still running too rich to get decent power... this did 180kw but it was running stupendously rich - this is the tune I went away to loxton on, dion and krishy can attest that i was blowing tonnes of soot out the rear end Then I got the nistune daughterboard installed and took the car to boostworx for a tune, shaun's standard gtr image was loaded and adjusted for the bigger injectors and the nismo afm's id installed the day before. he said that he felt the cam timing was out, perhaps by a tooth... best he could manage was 130kw took the car to road & track, they took off the head and discovered that the TDC marking on the cams were between 3 and 5' out and that the previous ECU tune (before nistune) was set to compensate for this - so the current tune isnt quite right - the timing shaun had to adjust to fix the prior poor cam timing needs to get retuned to stock, and im fitting N1's within the next fortnight, so that would also require a remap - in short won't be getting a retune at boostworx till everythings mechanically sorted however I'm back to similar power levels as before and the response is shithouse, loads of flat spots in the power curve - in spite of that, i can hear the turbos spooling up MUCH quicker than before which is always a good sign - in either case, the adjustments to the cam setup at road and track got me back to 180kw while running rich - we're going to fit the n1's and see how the fuel map scales from 0-20 psi as opposed to 0-14psi to break it down 2007 - bought gtr, 14psi = 210kw 2009 - dynoed after injector replacement, 180kw (put down to rich mix) 2010 - after nistune, 130kw put down to totally munted timing and enrichment map - cam timing reverted mechanically, 180kw at 10psi with same tune as above - estimated 210/220kw on stock turbos at 13/14psi (wont bother with this) - estimated 300kw on N1 turbos at 20psi with correct ignition timing and correct fuel map more info to come as i mod the bugger -D
-
good excuse to get that 34 then eh and cops arse they wont cover it. threaten to take them to court. -D
-
boostworx do really good tunes and know what theyre on about my preferred mechanical workshop is literally a street over, so I get mechanics done at Road & Track but get the nistune done by Shaun @ boostworx - I asked pete from PLMS who he would recommend for nistune specific tuning and he said shaun, and he was able to diagnose a fundamental error in the TDC setting on the stock cams. Between the two workshops, you cannot go wrong -D

I really hope so. It'd be shithouse if we cripple the next generation of mechanical apprentices ability to learn and do their job some folks can do mechanical work themselves, not me tho - so im glad i can get others to do the work, people that are pros that know what theyre doing and i do know for a fact steve that there are mechanical apprentices working on high powered cars like typhoons - most of them dont drive them, but on some occasions they would need to take it out on the road (testing wheel alignments etc). im not saying an apprentice is going to do something highly technical like balance a crankshaft or dial in cam settings either... just that they need to learn on the cars we expect them to work on competently when they become qualified mechanics, otherwise its like sitting a kid down and telling them how to drive and chucking them in a car unsupervised - maybe an extreme comparison but there it is the other downside is that younger members of sau might be affected, even if they are totally responsible, i can think of 3-4 people in particular who are within that age bracket who are very responsible drivers... half of me likes to think that the youngsters should start on low powered cars to begin with and work their way up (as I have done) the other half says get them onto the skidpan and give them powerful cars to learn on, and make them do intensive driver training like the finnish do i dunno what we citizens of sa can do. it seems like we have incompetent people governing the state... adelaide city council has dropped all funding from the clipsal... i give it 2 years max to survive unless they support it in some way flipside is, if they actually built a bloody motorsport complex, they could move the supercars, f1, lemans etc to the dedicated areas, have motorsport events all year round without disrupting the city - which is their biggest gripe due to the percieved inconvenience to the people that live in the city - same way they ban nightclubs and pubs from being loud when some daft noob decided to zone the place next door 'residential'... end rant -D EDIT - RE the drag strip at virginia... bob jane several years ago wanted to rezone the area industral so they could keep it open past 11pm council stalled it... then some f**kwitt build a caravan park next door... -

Spot on - problem is you get people like me buying GTR's without having done any advanced/defensive driving courses like they teach the kids in finland as a mandatory thing - and its something that would benefit all drivers not just the youngsters. However our govt is more interested in raising money than getting people educated and actually lowering the death toll. Just think if they actually did build the motorplex - somewhere for people to legally participate in motorsport and learn, get training etc - does anyone seriously believe that sapol wont have defect stations setup on the outside of the venue? getting a bit sick of this nanny state mentality -D -

read it again. some are exempt on the grounds the turbo "is for efficiency" rather than "performance" cops arse I say -D Edit - OK Steve... do u think apprentices on their P plates are going to be legally allowed to drive half the cars they have to work on? Black and white, it says they can't. -

the only downside really is the fact that mechanical apprentices are going to be screwed - a lot of people will lose their jobs over this, unless they can get an exemption. Think of jarvis ford that sell a lot of xr6/xr8's, and do the servicing etc - or even your local mechanic... in principle I agree with it, however its very poorly executed - not enough thought has been put into the consequences - and it tends to favour the rich over the poor - why can a p plater drive daddys turbocharged merc but not a supercharged holden or a turbocharged ford? it smacks of classism that said, i hope it'll help improve the image of import owners and enthusiasts in general but sadly I dont think that will happen. -D -
im sorry to say ive never heard of any test like that - its probably their internal code - you'd have to call up regency to find out what is involved -D

In spite of the rule of the law, the magistrate wont really give a rats arse They'll probably tell you to make sure to be aware but end up revoking the fine I for one think an amber light penalty is stupid - not everyone can judge as quickly as the local copper I would simply front up to the magistrate and say 'in my opinion it would have been less safe for me to rapidly brake ,as I estimated I would have enough time to cross the road safely" and that the official transport SA rulebook says nothing about amber light penalties. I would also point out to the magistrate the police officer in question followed you across red lights (did she have lights/sirens on? if NOT then she could get in the shit - at the least it would cause both the prosecuring sgt and the officer a tonne of paperwork..) Point out that you never exceeded the 50kph speed limit, and that your wheels never lost traction (as opposed to say, slamming on the brakes and sliding to a halt before orange lights).... And definately run this past a qualified lawyer before u front into court. Wear a suit. Don't chew gum. Stand up straight and be the best example of a model citizen you can be - these simple things go a long way when it comes to magistrates. A good lawyer might even argue that the officer in question was simply making quota, or was targeting you because of (x) reason - I wouldnt advise this if you represent yourself, as soon as you treat the police prosecuting sergeant as a hostile witness then you loose a bit of credibility - unless you're a paid lawyer. Theres no reason you should have to cop the demerits OR a fine for going thru an orange light imho, and if I was in the same position, that is what I would do. You mileage may vary -D
