  1. Not entirely needed, but if you have the cash to exercise the option then it's certainly up to you. You've noted in your original post that you're aware of the cost to build an rb26, so you won't get that nasty shock. 400hp can be achieved on a stock engine, with the right supporting mods. Mine is making 394hp and has been for the 10,000km since I bought it. Only thing that has gone is the clutch (just last week).
  2. This. I don't think I've ever seen a stock plenum with so much of the paint having flaked off. Mine was imported into Australia in 2009 with 76,000km on it. I have the original import papers, but even the 76,000km from Japan is probably doctored. If it's a GENUINE 50-80k km example (legitimate history and documentation provided), I still think you'd be flat strapped getting one for sub 24k. I mean the whole purpose of a car is to be DRIVEN. A 50,000km GTR is less than 2500km a year from new - that's less than 50km a week every week since new. While this is possible and there are some examples like this it's not going to be every second vehicle brought into Australia, like some importers would have you believe. In the case of performance cars that are 20+ years old, most having been in the country for several years; a decent AUSTRALIAN history, receipts and proof it's been looked after genuinely since it came to our shores. Also, as mentioned - Stay well clear of Edward Lee's...How many "genuine 50,000km" vehicles do you think they can actually acquire?
  3. Should have had a look at the pinned section... http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/55845-rb25-turbo-upgrade-all-dyno-results/page-47 Power figures, dyno sheets and mods listed to achieve them.
  4. This thread isn't very clear.
  5. Isn't the 95- Rb25de a series two, given the revision to the ignition system?
  6. A lot of the younger generation (myself included) tend to insure with just car insurance, if that's who you're thinking of. Shannons and a few others I can't name off the top of my head offer decent insurance too (In terms of recognizing import, rare or collectable cars and modifications) but unless you're 25 years or older they won't cover you.
  7. Heavily depends on the company offering the policy. The majority of mainstream companies will probably exclude highly modified cars, let alone insure them for an inflated sum.
  8. Queensland. It was with slight excess adjust, but not much. Edit: Area is garaged in is classed extremely low risk as well.
  9. I have my R32 GTR insured at an agreed value of 19k through justcar for about $900 a year. 22 year old rating one with a perfect history.
  10. God bless QLD. I'd say the "reported by an officer of the Victorian Police" Is either A) an off-duty member of the service, as previously noted or B) Perhaps an officer in traffic noticed your car ahead of them or driving the other direction and noted the plates to report and follow up on, as it didn't warrant pulling you over at the time.
  11. Good luck with the sale, but I don't think using a Skyline as a daily and not spending money are synonymous with each other.
  12. I find my S2000 handles very well for a stock car. I've been in ones with modified suspension too and they handle excellently. .
  13. I own a R32 GT-R personally. But I can see your line of thinking - because the R33 is widely considered to be ugly too. Never heard the styling of the R33 and good taste mentioned in the same sentence.
  14. Love the people whom say the Supra is a good looking car when most have already stated it's ugly as sin. I'd go the R34 personally. The Supra has a better engine for deriving the maximum amount of power but that's about it. Have you driven a car with 300kw as a daily? You wouldn't want a 400kw+ Supra as a daily, would just be an absolute dog to drive.
  15. Well you did just go ahead and bump a thread that's been inactive nearly 4 years. One would assume the 2013 is going to be quicker then the 2009 version....
  16. How long is a piece of string? The condition of the individual car can fluctuate the value by over 100% Most decent examples for a GTS-T start at 6k+
  17. Could be a conspiracy but at the end of the day, enforcing defects on imports is such a small part of the job requirement as a police officer.
  18. Quick release hubs are also illegal for road use.
  19. If it's anything like Queensland in New South Wales, then your mechanic is correct. You can't replace an OEM airbag unit with a non-airbag replacement. I don't think you can legally circumnavigate this.
  20. How long is a piece of string? As mentioned before, the way the car has been looked after can make a world of difference in value. Modifications matter, history matters. A clapped out, rusted example is going to vary hugely in price from the well documented and cared for example. I've got my R32 GTS-T for sale for 6.5k firm and I've actually had a harder time moving it than I thought, considering the condition and what I've spent. But that's just life.
  21. So you haven't realised the thread is 33 pages long and still has very recent replies in it?
  22. Is it a petrol or gas smell? What conditions make it worse? Is it worse on idle? Your car could just be running rich. I had a distinct petrol smell in my R32 gtr when it was idling stationary. Had it retuned it it's gone. Was just very rich.
  23. Good on you for getting the exemption. As pointed out, it's your attitude in the previous posts that is what has gotten many people offside with you. For example you have in your signature "Cowdy R33 Gts-t...red p-plates". Are you trying to show off that your drive a Skyline on your provisional license? It's that type of general shit that gets people offside with your whole age bracket (not specifically you, but you're grouped with them whether you like it or not). The amount of smart-arse exemption threads of people saying I'l just illegally drive a turbo on my provisonal license threads has gotten many people frustrated with the whole matter. Good on you for being granted the exemption. I do hope you end up staying out of trouble. I'm mainly frustrated with TMR for doing a backflip on the laws the introduced in 2007 in regards to restricting such cars to inexperienced drivers. The exemption clause was implemented to allow provisonal license holders to take advantage of the many models of cars that use turbocharging as a method of fitting cars with a smaller engine to enhance fuel ecconemy and not strictly for power. I got my license in September 2007 and did the correct thing in waiting 3 years before I bought my R32 GTS-T, only for a year later to have TMR backflip on the law and introduce this stupid exemption in which I could have driven the car all along. I don't agree with the change because they've basically allowed people to drive the cars the law was supposed to restrict in the first place.
  24. So you've started by making it worse? Good to see TMR have completing disregarded their guidelines. Ridiculous.
  25. I split my daily drive duties between cars, but the R32 GT-R gets a go a few days a week. The vast majority of the 50,000km examples aren't legit, let alone anything close to daily driven. Mine says it was imported in 2009 with 77,000km on it and it's at 122,000km now. The guy I bought it off daily drove it.
