  1. Hi guys. I’m in the process of replacing my ageing RB26 with a RB26/30 combo. My ultimate goal is to do all the work myself to save abit of coin and learn quite a bit in the process. With a final power output of 300kw at the end. The car as it stands is pretty standard. Just bits and pieces like exhaust/intercooler/suspension/BOV. No pods and will be leaving the engine bay fairly standard. I have already purchased GT2860 -5 turbos (from Anderew at HyperDrive) and a new front diff before I decided to replace the RB26. The original plan was to change the sump and turbos while the engine was out. Then I got thinking I should fresh up the old RB26 and I discovered the RB26/30 combo. I took the car to a mechanic and return 150PSI across all 6 with a leak down test. So the RB26 still had a bit of life in her but at 110,000km it’s time was coming to a end. I have read the HUGE RB30 GTR conversion thread and hopefully got all the knowledge that I need to complete the build. This will be a fairly quick build with a due date of end of November. The story so far… -RB30 Block has been strip right back taking out the pistons/crack/hoses/random stuff. This was done over the space of an a couple of hours with a mate. -The block is on its way to get acid dipped and checked out buy the local machinist. (Handy tip – if you live in a smallish town and people are afraid to work on the “skyline” engine just say to them it’s a “VL” engine they will be all over it in a flash lol) -Next step is to get the block bored out to 0.20 tho over size. Once I know the final size I will order a RB30 NA rebuild kit from Repco. This includes bearing/rings/pistons/gaskets. Pretty much everything I need. The reason I’m going with the NA parts is that RIPS NZ have RB30 built to NA standards for 600HP. I’m not aiming that high but it’s nice to know that I can get that high with the right NA parts. I have thought of going forged but the for the power goal I’m chasing is not needed (300KW) . Plus it’s all in the tune at how far I can go without detonation anyway. -Once I get that done it’s off the buy the RB30/26 Sump adaptor. I have contacted RIPS and PRO ENGINES and decided to go with the PRO ENGINES, purely off price. $1000 all up for adaptor/oil pick up/crank collar/ - RIPS were quite a bit more expensive. (No offence to RIPS I’m sure there product is top notch) That’s where at the present time with the acid hopefully getting done this week. On my shopping list is the following. ROSS Harmonic Balancer Silicone Hose kit to replace all the worn out hoses (including intercooler piping) Rochester 1000cc Injectors – cheap injectors will fit in standard location just need to trim the plug? Please clarify. Gasket kit – Includes exhaust/head/intake Basically to refresh the whole engine. I would like to thank all the people that have help me to get this far especially Andrew from Hyperdrive Motor Sports in Perth. Handy to have someone so knowledgeable and willing to help even though I’m 500km away. Also I will be selling the bottom half of the engine so recoup some costs. If anybody is interest let me know. Here are some basic pictures of were i'm at the the mo.
  2. If it isn't to much trouble could you please post up a pic of the trimming of the plug. Thanks
  3. It is my BIBLE I have been reading it over and over. I'm one of those poeple that won't get it till i see it and go OOOOOOO i get it now So D Day will be next weekend I think.
  4. I would like to know also - but i'm pretty sure poeple aren't going to tell there trade secrets over the internet, thats what they get paid to do. The best thing you can buy is RB30 workshop manual and all the info is in there. Plenty on the internet to buy for about 80 bucks. Cheers
  5. Would a thicker head gasket fix that? The VL turbo wouldn't have forged internal standard? What would change, the piston? EDIT: Alot of poeple are buying NA RB30 and doing the conversions. What are they doing to fix that? Double EDIT!: The head must bring down the compression no?
  6. OK guys done some pricing! RB30 Short Block - $50 Acid dipped and cleaned - $70 ACL rebuild kit to NA standards (pistons, bearings ect) $650 Nissan Gasket kit - $350 Putting the engine together myself with a mate - $Free Reusing RB26 parts $Free Thats were i'm at the moment. I was reading over the RIPS pricing and standards and they are only using the standard NA pistons and bearing for 600HP. So it must be good enough for me! (unless someone can tell me no?) Cheers
  7. Thanks =) Going with the NISTUNE only becasue i trust andrew at HYPERDRIVE to tune it. I might look at secound hand RIPS engines - There engines are quite expensive! Must be a brand thing. Meh z32 AFM are on my short list as well. Just need the money
  8. If you think about it the compressor wheel is spinning at 10,000 RPM and is going in a out ward direction - the exhaust manifold would guide it back into the engine pretty much. That the only way i could work it out. I could be wrong though.
  9. How much did the RIPS block set you back? Did it come with everything you need? Thats what i want - crazy torque curve! I will have a look now.
  10. I will start 3 sets of R33 GTR stock turbos - no damage to enigne - both times returning on from the strip and cooling off along the straight - give it a little bit of boot and nothing. Thrid time trying to bet my PB and hammering along @ 160+ on and on the way to 160 "popped" a turbo - took out number 4 cylinder. RB30 rebuild time. I think it is the heat and the speed that kills these turbos. I had some GT2860 - 5 waiting to go one but i didn't have the time to put them on. Meh.
  11. Ok guys Brought a RB30 BLOCK for 50 bucks YAY going to get it acid dipped and checked out at my local machinest. Next on the list is new bearings. Problem is i don't know were to start. Is there a kit you can buy with everything included? I don't think forged is worth it for 300kw or is it? I have notice RIPS are selling "new" blocks with stock pistons for 400hp so i think it will be safe. Will my turbos be suited for the RB30 or should i go bigger? Anyways i will continue to read the RB30 thread and go from there.
  12. Ok guys Bad news - one of my turbos has let go for good - the car cant idle at all and is blowing enough back smode to have a disco in it. I have done a compression test and it returned all but one at 150 the forth one returned 142ish lower then the rest. Booked in for a leakdown test and I will go from there. It's a shame that if my enigne has let go, i will be going RB30 bottom end and the turbos will be wasted =( O well - bring on Wednesday. Cheers
  13. Thanks. Might look at cam gears and get cams later on - this is only a mild build so nothing crazy. Just jap seems like the place to get most of the piping and gaskets but is quite expensive for injecters/dumps. Still hunting around for brangins. Thanks
  14. Hey can you let me know how the kit is? Quality wise and fitment?
  15. Ok guys - I have got the turbos in my hot little hands Now onto the rest of the gear Sard 6 x 800cc Injectors R32,33,34 GTR RB26DETT, $789 Delivered (twin spary ) or $689 for single spray.
