  1. A couple of reasons really. I want to figure out the correct position/orientation as the original RB won't be going back (I don't know which engine swap I'll be doing as yet). Also, I just don't want the front end to hang too low as the cross member is for the back end only, right? In that regard, I'm a tad paranoid, because I don't know what I'm doing. cheers.
  2. Hi fellas, I got my engine out with the gearbox in-situ on my R32 GTS25 - I had it sitting on the scissor jack before pulling out bell housing bolts and engine mounts but while messing about to get the input shaft free from the clutch and all, now I don't know where it's supposed to sit any more. I would really appreciate if anyone can give me a couple of reference dimensions (something like X & Y in the photo) so I can have the gearbox sitting right while the engine is out. Thanks in advance. Cheers.
  3. Hi guys, did R32 come with R180 diff and if so, which models did? (I'm assuming budget models like GXi and GTE etc) Cheers
  4. Ok thanks, I do have a pdf copy of the R32 engine manual so I should be able to figure something out.
  5. Hi all, Trying to tidying up the wiring loom and wondering what the two 8 pin connectors between LH shock tower and windscreen washer bottle are for. Both come out from RH side cabin, one of them has something to do with the windscreen wiper motor as far as I can work out. I'm finding working with R32 wiring is a bit tricky, as the wiring diagram floating around on the net is for GT-R/GTS4 and the quality is pretty terrible. Cheers
  6. Hi guys, I'm trying to disassemble the pinion assembly but not sure how. Per the photo below, there is a pin which is holding the sleeve in place - it looks like a blind hole so I guess it has to be drilled out but the pin material is pretty hard (centre punch got destroyed in the process). Also, there is what looks like a bearing retainer but no obvious way to remove it either. Has anyone done this before? Cheers https://imgur.com/a/0RgBH https://imgur.com/a/aCdNa
  7. Yes Bob - I still have the shroud in place. Cheers.
  8. moving radiator back Hi all, I noticed there is around 45mm (give or take 5mm) gap between the back of the radiator and the fan and I'm wondering if I can pull back the radiator closer to the fan so I can have some room for intercooler pipes. Does anyone have ideas what effect that will have on 1) cooling efficiency and 2) whether there will be interference when the fan is spinning at max rev and 3) any other issues? It's an R32 GTS25 but I suppose the idea is the same for any car in general. Cheers
  9. Right thanks - I'm guessing I need to get the column UJ pinch bolt off and the four bolts/nuts (2 each side) that are holding the rack to the subframe. Does it then come out pretty straightforward or involve a lot of to-ing and fro-ing and lots of swearing? Cheers
  10. has anyone complied a list of halfshafts and their lengths? to be specific, i'd like to know if s15 hlsd halfshafts have the same lengths as r32 halfshafts. thanks, sam
  11. i know this thread is super old but im having a problem installing one for r32 gtst. its about 30% too long, i need to make a big detour or a loop - how did others install it? some photos would be really helpful. cheers sam
  12. I dont think they were cut, the powder coating is mostly in tact (minus the area where there s rust). I'm getting some more grooves cut on Bilsteins, see if that fixes it. I thought Kings Low was straight swap for SK group buy Whiteline springs.
  13. Thanks for your advice. I'm dropping only 30mm, and the difference between stock and bilstein shocks is only 10mm - I'm not sure that's significant enough.
  14. I have this Tein S Tech spring instruction (in Japanese), from what I can tell, it lists both front & rear as 2.2. (c.f. S tech soft, front 2.9-3.2 & rear 2.2-2.9 and medium 2.8-4.2 & 1.8-3.6)
  15. Im having a bit of problem with installing King spring (low), they were barely captive when I pulled off stock shocks (the springs had some sort of rubber tubes where they sit against the top and bottom spring seats). And with my Bilstein, I can't get them to sit captive at all (Bilstein being a bit longer than stockers - plus I ditched the rubber tubes as they seemed to have trapped moisture and causing a bit of rust, and naturally that made things worse). I transferred all other bits from the stock shocks (i.e. top seat, top rubber bush, top washer, another rubber bush between the top seat and the dust boot and the dust boot) - what am I doing wrong here? cheers, sam
  16. should be able to, esp. if springs are off - give em a call and find out.
  17. bump - if anyone happens to jack up the car, perhaps measure the distance from the bottom of the shocks to the lowermost groove? like here. TIA Sam
  18. im kinda confused - you said you wanted to rebuild bilsteins but your problem us at front, where the shocks are tein. did i get that right?
  19. sounds like the shocks are done. soft stock spring won't cause crash and bang. is it just one corner or all four?
  20. looking at the old group buy photos, it looks like the front shocks have 5 grooves and the rears have 6 - is that the case?
  21. Yeah I got spring compressors - I have Tein S Tech fronts and some random ones for rears. I ll have to sort out rear springs though. The front springs came out real easy, the circlips were sitting on seconds from the bottom groove, so that explains it I guess. So do SK Bilsteins have 5 grooves, all at the same interval? Cheers, Sam
  22. Thanks for the reply, blind_elk.. The problem I have is, that I don't know if my top groove is machine at the same position as your top groove. That's why I need the measurement from a known point (either the eyelet end the top of the shock body). Obviously it'd be hard to measure that unless any of you guys have the shocks out, I guess. Thanks, Sam
