I Don't Think This Is The Correct Way To Install A Catch Can?
H@ME replied to jimmytim's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
so will this cause any problems having the can mounted near the turbo?? it like 1cm away from touching it i monted it on the strut, using a brace. i'll put up pics soon, i need a new altenator so i won't be running the car for a bit so i got plenty of time to move it if needed. any help? hame -
there is another topic on this atm, i am hooking mine up at the moment, however, where mine is mounted is right above the standard turbo, hope this won't cause any fires???

see i thought the same, as i think i will be blocking off the bottom inlet, if oil does leak there could be a possible leak, i made up a bracket and have mounted it to the right side (exhaust side) as it seemed to fit better, alot of people have theres mounted there and i havnt heard of much trouble with it i haven't hooked up the lines or anything yet, i'll let ya see n know the finished product. hame -
hey, tightened it up more, still getting the problem this is really annoying, is it a big hassel to take off the fan belt to find out if it is the altenator
-
okies, i have found a longer spanner, the first bolt (the one u can't see in the second pic of urs, well the head of the bolt) is impossible to turn it stiff as, however the long bolt is eaiser, i have losened the long belt, and the fan belt has become lose..this sounding right?
-
yeaha i only have a small spanner, and it too confined in there near the radiator hose, plus i have hybrid fmic and the piping is right in the way! so it a paint:(
-
you can say that again, i just went and tried, the thing is tight, i using a socket set and i broke one of the connectors, i'll try use a spanner, and it was 12mm
-
yeaha they are the ones i was trying to describe, the pics take a while to load. So which one do i loosen first, then the other bolt i use to tighten the belt correct? ... so ticky to get in there..

hey i going to install my catch can as it been sitting on my shelf of parts in the shed for ages, which is a better place to mount the can? i have provided pics. Looking at the car from the front, i either going, the left strut tower (drivers side) or the right. howeveer the turbo is on the right in standard position. so any advice would be good, also should i block the bottom inlet? -
excellent i think i know the bolts u talking about the one almost horizontal and the other one faced the other way? i'll see how i go. let u know in 5! a pic would help clarify this however.
-
hey man, yeah it think it is a little bit loose! can push down 1cm or little more, what do you mean the bolt @ the back? how do you tighten the fan belt? i'll wait for a reply on this and if this does not work i'll take off the belt and try again. REGARDING TIMER, do you have to use a turbo timer harness?

hey guys i just got back my r33 GTS with rb25det conversion, all has been great with the car and it hasnt missed a beat, however i have encounted this squeeking and first instints was it was the fan belt, i had a look this morning, and it is coming from around the altenator, could this be a possible loose belt? the noise was only came on during start up now, it is constant, i think it is possibly the bearings in the altenator? i have done the old, soap on the inside of the fan belt to use a dry lubricant to try stop the squeak, however it is still contant, any ideas on wat to do or try? 2nd part, is that i want to intall my apexi full auto timer for turbo and N/A, however, just want to know the basics of installation, any problems i may come accross and things to watch out for? Any help on these two issues would be muchly appeciated! Cheers, hame

Yeaha i live in QLD and i thought u could have a pod if it was convered.

Well i am confident etc, suppose i just need to get a hand on all the parts, i do like to learn about the car by modifying and changing parts my self. i just messaged my mechanic to see if he still has all the braking component parts. Who did you have do your work, rebuilding of calipers, re-drilling & machining of rotors? just interested, and was it expensive?
-
Goods great, my mechanic had all the parts to do the brake conversion i think (Well the front brakes as that is what came with the front cut) so i suppose i'll see what happened there, i have mate who said he'll give me the gts-t rotors, is it hard to fit these items with 4-stud? Who did the work on your break? workshop? yourself?

SO this last picture is the correct way for running an oil catch can, wat type of oil catch can was used. how many inlets etc, i have a Greddy oil catch can i want to fit soon, was just wondering on this thread if it was the correct way for doing it for an rb25det, anlso was a breather used here? have u had any problems or noticed a difference anywhere? hamish -
thanks for the advice guys, i intend on having the breaks upgraded, EUG what do u mean by "my effective but cheap option was a bolt in GTST calipers/rotors." is this possible without the 5-stud conversion, he was ment to do the brakes, i not sure why. i suppose i'll have to get them donw soon. I gave the bay a bit of a clean up etc she looking a bit better, but yeaha i have read alot of the information EUG has supplied and he has been a great help! Hame

looks nice! i need to post the pics of mine now in here but it not N/A no more! hehe

Yeaha the fuel pump seems to be doing its job! BTW i spoke the mechanic about the speedo he said that is a pretty normal problem with conversions something to do witht the difference in thr speed sensors so maybe i have to get a speed sensor from a Gts-t? I not sure think i will ask an auto electrician about it. she has not been difficult to start, click on and brrrooooom. Cooler does look mean on my front bar, its a very different front bar i have never seen anther skyline with it on! She is so much fun to drive and very very responsive, with boost coming on really early. I will be needing to get a boost gauge and install my apexi timer soon to keep everything in check. I will be giving the engine back a good clean up (hopefully today) and putting back all my sound gear. Will post some better pics of her soon! Thanks for all the interest and advice guys has been a good experience with the help of SAU! BTW brakes were not upgraded however, i'm going to see wat i can do about this, any ideas guys??

Well guys car is back, sorry for the wait i actually picked it up last night (8:45pm), since then i have given her a bit of a run in, took her up mt.cootha etc gave her some challanges to get use to the new power, she goes really really nice So i'll give you a run down of whats in her. the rb25det engine fitted with a HKS ssq BOV, Hybrid FMIC with allow piping, apexi dual pannel forced air pod filter, gts't ECU, gts-t 5 speed gear box, new tailshaft. So i am happy with the way she is running now, the responce is great!! They had to grind away some of the front bar to fit the piping in, but it looks an absolute treat, also fan was timmed to fit the hybrid style piping. All was good in the process apart from the speedo seemed to be incorrect (well it definatly is) so i need to call him about that tomorrow and let him know. other wise here is a couple of pictures i got of her (not the best of quality but more will come soon. it is so good to have her home considering havn't driven her since 30th june!. I still have my apexi full auto timer to install which will be done soon. hope to see some of u out on cruises soon etc. ENJOY! future modifcation will probably include: - Apexi Power FC - t4 turbo (in the next 10 years!!) - Tidy up of the interior (kustomise) - Greddy Plemunm
