Seeking asylum is not forbidden under australian or international law, nor is it a criminal act. It is considered unlawful to enter Australia without a valid visa, however this only means you must then prove you have a genuine need to seek asylum, at which point it may be granted or declined. If you are that worried about the law being broken maybe you should be more concerned about what Australia does with asylum seekers than the asylum seekers themselves.
