  1. Yeah, but last time I checked they were only doing the engine manual, which my mechanic has a copy of. But all the body work, wiring etc... is not included.
  2. gts4, there are some useful suggestions in your thread, I will defintely try re centering my steering wheel, and checking the postion of the HICAS sensor. With any luck it will work. Thanks,
  3. I have a question to the ether. I am having a problem with the HICAS warning lamp coming on after around 15mins of driving. It happens whether I cane it or not, and it has me a bit stumped. Because it seems to be an event that happens after a given amount of time...it could be temperature related. Other than that I have checked power steering lines for leaks and have not found any. If anyone else has been through this traumatic experience and finally came to an answer I would appreciate the heads up. R32 91 GTSt - pretty stock (no engine mods - only suspension and brake rotors)
  4. My recommendation is slotted rotors too, since I have fitted them to my car, not only do I get a lot loss fade on the track, but no squeak either...more a low pitched groan under heavy braking as the rotor chops up the pads. DBA's are good and reasonably priced, check their website www.dba.com.au
  5. I'm suprised you got insured with Suncorp craz0.... I rang them asking for insurance for an R32 GTSt and they said they would not insure this model at all. Maybe they are happy to do 33's though. I'm >28, rating 1, no mods, no speeding tickets, flawless driving record.
  6. By the way everyone - I just rang Response again, they DO still insure imported cars - but they have changed underwriters. They quote has jumped from $1040, to $1480. So obviously this new underwriter is not as generous... But they defintely do imported cars. The excess of a flat $750 is still the same though. I'll check with Famous and Just Cars and see what they are currently doing. I'm just spewing I didn't jump at the $1040 policy a month ago....seems that decision will cost me over $400. Could have put that money to much better use... Ah well, you snooze you lose.
  7. Was it confirmed that Response will no longer insure import vehicles, last time I rang (a couple of months ago) there was no issue with insuring imports and they quoted competitivly. I will ring them myself next week - and give a cofirmation (if one doesn't appear before then)
  8. OK here is what I can get Details: >28 yo, not parked in garage, high(ish) risk suburb, only driver, rating 1, R32 GTSt (factory std) Just cars: $1350 + about $2000 excess Response: $1040 + $750 excess flat Famous: $1040 (matched response's quote) + $1000+ excess. Response be the winner be a fair margin. They also say they will accept choice of repairer - this is full comprehensive insurance, no limit to kms per year, no other restrictions. Maybe the lack of mods do help, I'm not sure. I'm still currently with Just Cars - but when I actually get a chance I will be changing to Response quick smart. Hope this info saves a few other people getting ripped by Just Cars.
  9. So what company in Perth will insure you for that price RB26DETT 240Z ? Still haven't been able to beat Response at $1040 in Melbourne.
  10. Yeah he does my servicing as well. Oil changes, checking all the fluid levels in all the spots there is fluid - suspension, transmission etc..., does suspension work, brakes, (he doesn't do panel beating or resprays - as far as I know anyway) He's got a few 33's on the books (at least there has been one or two around there when I've picked up my car before) Pretty cheap...I'm trying to remember....the oil was pricey as I use a 5W-30 ish synthetic Penzoil. I'm pretty sure it was less than $200 by a fair whack though. I'm not sure on his stock of R33 spares, but I've seen at least a few bars down there. I know he doesn't really sell full cars, more into parts, servicing and fixing our f**k ups. Oh and the best thing I forgot to mention - he is open late, like 9pm late! - so you can go around after work to pick up your car. It makes things so much easier than mechanics who shut up shop by 5pm.
  11. Is the 400-450 for front and rear calipers and rotors? I assume we are talking 4spots at front, 2 spots at rear, with 280 x 30mm rotors on the front? ...might have a second bidder (if you've got the lot)
  12. If memory serves - about 35,000 R32 GTR's were made and about 300,000 R32 GTST's were made (that doesn't include GTS4-turbos either)
  13. Most of the good quality rips of top end movies (pre release date) - are the evaluation copies given to the Academy - or for reviewers I guess. I saw son of rajab of the Rings 1 and 2 before the hit Australian cinemas....about every 30min a caption came across the bottom of the screen."For your consideration", or "For consideration by the Academy" - something like that. This means the Reloaded rips out there could possibly be from a DVD....
  14. Got that straight! - I think he will join Famous for 1/2 a year, then change to Response after that.
  15. Supra - non turb, rating one, 24.5 yrs old....so just misses out
  16. What you planning to use it for? (As I was talking to Microtech the other day, and they were telling me that the amount of time you can datalog for - before having to save the log and restart data logging - is highly dependant on the amount of RAM available to the laptop) But if you've got that sorted, or it doesn't matter, or if Microtech are feeding me the ripest bullshit this side of Texas....just ignore everything I just said. I've got a really crap P90 - but that is probably even too crap for your purpose.
  17. Dry weight that is...but 1280kg is closer to the truth for a 2dr. Boy o boy - I will have to actually curb the instinct to talk crap in future...let me retract my earlier statements. (I was on such a roll on other questions that I actually know a little bit about - I just got over enthusiastic in a big way) Let it be known I official know "shit" about Z's. (I'll stick to Skylines) Lucky I put that comment about bullshit in hey?
  18. (I was being subtle about the behaviour going on early in this forum) - It's all been moderated out now... so the comment has kinda lost its cutting edge.
  19. A friend of mine under 25 said Response wouldn't touch him. (That's gotta suck) - So I don't think they insure under 25's - sorry guys
  20. KK13 I've had a bit done there over the last couple of years. Mostly recently a full engine rebuild. Piston No 6 went boom. I didn't have a lazy 3-4K to buy a second hand RB20DET so I gave him the challange of coming up with an option to repair what we had. The compromise we reached was sending the head off to get checked, and replacing the bottom end. It took a lot of labour, but I got it back on the road for only $1500! I had quotes done with other mechanics in the area and didn't get one under $5000, so I was pretty impressed. Another incident was the death of my air flow meter - I was all ready to go out and buy a new one, he (John) checked it out with Injectronics - and they were able to repair/re-engineer it good as new. - again saving a wad of cash. I've never had an issue with any of his work (as no apprentice is allowed within 100m of the car), and the motor is pulling as strong as ever. I could go on, but my point is: He doesn't shit you - if the car doesn't really need a new ***whatever*** he wont insist that you buy one. And he gives you options, eg. you could replace it for x$, we can get a second handy for x$, or repair the existing one for x$. - and his work is of a high standard, and he has a lot of the spare parts in stock. (Long answer, but I hope it helps you find a good mechanic) - There's nothing worse than not having one.
  21. Yep Skylines Downunder have all the paint codes (that's why I haven't listed them....maybe I should) - but some of the other info on their site is actually wrong! For example they state that the "E" in E-HCR32 is a date code, but I have since discovered it is a fuel code, with E for petrol...the rest is up above. So what I am looking for, for all of us, is a confirmed list of all the codes on Skyine VIN plates, so we will all know exactly what we got out of the factory. Keep the info coming, that you scratch up from weird Japanese sites on the web, one day we will have the answer.....and that answer will be glorious!
  22. I would say the RB30DE TT - Twin Turbo motor should bolt into a 300Z - as that was one of the factory options in Japan for the 300ZX. Pity you don't really get Skylines over there - they are so much more nimble and better around corners than a heavy 300ZX. A R32 GTSt weights a mere 1150kg (1kg=2.2lbs) A twin turbo motor is a bit expensive...but I would not be sure a RB25DET would fit, as the 300Z engine bay contains a 3.0L 6 as standard. Maybe someone who actually knows about 300Z's should reply, as I am stumbling over my own bullshit here...
  23. I still haven't found any better options. I think Response is the way too go (if you are over 25), as I think under 25 Famous will give you a better deal. A friend of mine just landed a Supra and he found Famous to be cheaper for him (as he is 24), where as me at >28 found Response to have the best prices.
  24. An offer worth considering..... Would that full set of GTSt brakes come with a master cylinder as well. I have a bad feeling if I upgrade my calipers, that I will also have to upgrade my master cylinder. I will try to work out this week what the part number for the big brake master cylinder is, and if that is what I already have installed in my car. I've got a hunch though that I will have a much smaller master cylinder (to go with my 180SX size brakes). Thanks for the offer though Dragan, I wont keep you hanging too long.
  25. I highly recommend J & S Japanese Auto Importers. Fantastic mechanics, high quality work, bout 1/2 the price of most other quotes. Allergic to bullshit too. Give em a call - even if only for a quote...03 9775 0593, ask for John He's VACC approved too so can do insurance claims.
