  1. I was reading a forum on this site about Commodore drivers.....
  2. Is everyone aware that as a factory option you could get the word Skyline lit up at the rear of the car. I shit you not, I was at a Jap site which had a factory Skyline brochure, which showed this option, I believe there was even a choice of blue or green. I'll see if I can dig up the link it was a little while ago.
  3. When you say "tab" DD - do you mean the bit that clicks into the housing, or it is up near the seatbelt feeder. When I get in my car tonight after work I will have to have a look. Amazing what we can find out if we pool our knowledge.
  4. Yeah the type is E-HCR32, where E stands for petrol, and HCR32 is the model type. I've posted another thread about decrypting the VIN plate (which my other research project - related to determine why I have such pissy brakes) Might check out the availability of 4 pots on Silvia's - almost all have 4 stud wheels which means the rotors wont go on my 5 stud hubs. The car if defintely M spec from the model spec, but also it has a std GTSt steering wheel, not the snazzy M spec wheel. So it seems the car is a factory M spec with a couple of downgraded options. Maybe the original buyer didn't quite have enough money, and had to deoption the car.....maybe I'll never find out. Thanks for the caliper tip though, I'll let you know what I find out KRCR32RGFSM AA RC = rwd, R = M spec, 32 =R32, GF=manual (that's about all that is confirmed at this point)
  5. I've found a couple of numbers, giving Chassis Numbers versus build dates (only for R32s) - The Chassis numbers are not in perfect sequence though. I think they made a big run of R32 GTSt's, maybe retooled for a day or two then run R32 GTR's. More info though, the E on E-HCR32 stands for Petrol model, I think N is diesel, K lpg. As I find more I'll let you know. Anyone else with any info feel free to pipe up and enlighten us all
  6. Late breaking news! Found that 048282 is link to a date code, this one was built March 1990! I reckon I can do it for any Skyline chassis number.
  7. How much luck have other had working out what all the pretty letters and numbers mean on your VIN plate? Here is what I have found. Type - E-HCR32 prefix letter is a year code (unconfirmed) HCR32-048282 Vehicle Identification Number - this is linked to the manufacturing date (but I haven't worked out which numbers were made on which dates) Model spec - RC=rwd, R=type M, 32=R32, GF=gearbox 5 speed manual Colour codes (available elsewhere in these forums) Engine (pretty easy stuff there) D=Twin cam, E=electronic fuel inj, T=you guessed it Turbo FS5W71C Gearbox spec, followed by RC43 rear diff spec (5sp manual, with 4.3:1 final drive) Build factory - 5, believed to be Yokohama Any more additions??? Would be great to have all the codes - makes identifying Skyline's by VIN plate a piece of cake
  8. I've done a bit more research and it seems that the 4 pot calipers were an optional extra (technically standard on an M spec) - but could still be optioned out. The single pistoned caliper is the same as a S13 200SX brake. I checked my model spec KRCR32RGFSM AA - which is defintely a 5 spd manual M spec GTSt (don't know what the AA stands for) - so my only guess it was optioned out - or changed over before it landed in Oz Means with a bit of modding (ripping off the dust covers) a GTR brake will fit under there nicely. If anyone hears more about factory options - I'm still interested Thanks,
  9. Don't know if your looking around, but it would defintely pay to at least get a quote from a place called J & S Japanese Auto Importers. I recently needed an engine rebuild (long and sad story), I was getting quotes from $5000 to $3500. J & S did the rebuild for $1500! I've been back many times since and can't fault the quality of the work, and defintely not the price. I belive their number is 03 9775 0593 - they are in Carrum Downs, which is a bit furhter of than Morrabin - but I say well worth the trip (if only for a quote). They also seem to be allergic to bullshit there as well, which is a welcome change.
  10. I'm not sure if all you guys are quoting policies with an 8000 km/yr limit, but the Response quote $1040 +$750 excess was unlimited ks. Don't know if that interested anyone, but I know I do well over 8000 km/yr in my mobile.
  11. I've got the same prob with mine (R32 GTSt). Have yet to solve it, but still working on it. Although on track days it doesn't piss out - and there are some serious G's. It's just on the first time you boot it hard for the day, (which I hope for you isn't out the driveway). So I think it is some residual water that doesn't make it back to the resevior. If you find a solution let me know (probably just changing over the valve or seal on the rear window spray nozzle)
  12. I rang Famous and Response for insurance of a R32 GTSt last week. Response quoted me $1040 with $750 excess (that's it, no more excess for body kits claims OR theft). Famous agreed to match the $1040 quote of Response, but could not match the excess. The best they could do was $1000 basic + $1000 for theft. (I'm >28 w/ rating 1). So I am changing from the evil just cars to Response in the next few weeks.
  13. I own a R32 GTSt and have found something very interesting with the brakes. I wanted to change the rotors so ordered in some R32 GTSt disc rotors: A 280mm diameter, 30mm thick disc rotor (for the front). These are the factory spec - and can be found in the DBA catalouge. When I took the rotors of my factory R32 GTSt I found that the rotors were 280mm diameter, 22mm thick. The 30mm rotors would not fit into the callipers! Is anybody aware of any R32 GTSt’s that came out of the factory with smaller brakes? (280 x 22) Would normal R32 GTSt callipers and rotors fit on this model? Would R32 GTR Brembo’s bolt straight on as well? I would appreciate any assistance, even if only to point my in the correct direction of where to find this information.
