I live in The Southern Highlands area of NSW. Where are you located? Im considering getting a whole set of secondhand ones if the resin doesn't work, what should they cost me from a wreckers. I can get a set form ebay for about $180 shipped. Does that sound reasonable? -
How Do You Check The Health Of Your Coil Packs ?
Stormchaser replied to Munkyb0y's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
ok so I have had another look and I cannot see anything wrong with the plugs. Do the scorch/burn marks on the sides of the coils look like that is what could be causing the problem. I cant really just go and get one form a wreckers cause it looks like 3 of them are doing the same thing. Would the car be even drivable if three coils were intermittiantly failing? It drives just not very well at all. I was just going to clean them up and tightly wrap electrical tape over them, just to see if I could eliminate the problem even for a bit, so that I wont mind spending 500 on a set of splitfires. Thanks for your help. Jason. -
How Do You Check The Health Of Your Coil Packs ?

ok so I have pulled all of the coils out of the car and all of the plugs. The plugs seem fine no burned or shorted arcing marks on them. Then I had a look at the coils This is what I came up with I noticed that on three of the coils there were these wierd "hot spot' kind of marks. Im going to get a set of copper ngk's and gap them to .8 to see if that makes any difference. If not then it looks like getting a set of second hand coils to diagnose them further. -

How Do You Check The Health Of Your Coil Packs ?

I am having a simillar problem with my r33 gtst. One day just cruising home after a bit of a hammering I noticed what felt like ignition breakdown. it shuddered, backfired but I was only about 2 mins from home. I left it over night and the next day it was fine again. It idled smooth had power all the way to redline, no hesitation so I thought maybe it was bad fuel. So then a week later I drove it about 45kms and it started doing it again but much worse it also developed a missfire at idle. Sounds like a wrx and is barely driveable. Does this sould at all like the coil packs? -
how much for the coils?

It was Moss Vale they are actually a Holden dealership that deals with Nissan, so its no wonder that they didn't want to help me. Where does everyone else get theirs from in NSW which NISSAN dealers have you delt with that were accomodating with giving out import info. All I wanna do is get the car to a standard that I know that I will be able to drive it anywhere I want to go. looks like this is becoming more difficult as time goes by.

Yeah its an r33 gtst yeah sure man i'll take a look at it in the next few days( got a lot on) Also what about the gaskets I rang Liverpool Nissan and they wanted 125 just for the manifold gasket!!!! Does this sound right? Jason.

I have just realized that I have two manifold studs missing, one on the bottom runner of no 1. and the top of no 4. Will it be a problem to keep driving the car (just lightly to work and back, very little boosting) until I get time /money to pull the manifold off and replace the studs. Also where do you recommend I get my genuine Nissan parts from as my local one says that they have no listing on imports and will have to ring head office. Where do you get ur stock stuff in NSW??? Thanks Jason.

I dont mind doing that as long as I know what Im doing once I get it off and can get the parts to replace them. Not looking forward to pulling off dash and then having to put it back together if I cannot find out what the problem is or source parts.

It seems that I have the same problem as you. (you can only turn the stereo up to cover it for so long lol) Im really keen to find out what is involved in getting to the controls. Somone here had an english workshop manual maybe there might be some help in there?? Jason.

Ill take a photo of what I'm talking about and post it later tonight. I just realized that in the OP I said"under the bonnet" I meant under the dash. Sorry must have been my blonde day.

I have a series 2 r33 gtst and when the Climate controll is on it seems like it wants to keep switching it between feet and face. You can hear a faint clicking sound and I had a look under the bonnet and noticed that the arm connected to the air box(Im guessing here) was moving back and forth. Seems like some kind of short or maybe the motor is playing up. Anyone come along this before?

I have just replaced one of the rubber hoses (the smaller diameter one) on the power steering resevior. I didn't get a chance to start the car as I had to get a new battery. So when I installed the battery and started the car I noticed that the PS pump was cavitating (making weird noise) so I thought well its gotta be low in fluid so I topped it up and noticed that there was a huge gap of air in the middle of the reseviour. When I start the car it just turns whatever fluid is in the resevior to foam and the pump keeps whining. Im just gonna give flushing it out a go and see what happens. Any ideas what this might be?
