Any Real Performance Gain From Cold Air Intakes....
WYTSKY replied to IM-32-FK's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
ok, im going to go against what others are saying on here about it. I have a full heatsheild and cai... if you want to do it yourself for about ~$50 each then it might be worth while looking in the tutorial section... anyway. When I did it, I did notice a difference in torque and power, but very minimal... it did however increase throttle response. It used to be with an unshielded pod as hot as the rest of the motor at the end of say a 30 minute drive. What I have noticed change the most is, you know when your car has just warmed up on a cold morning and you give it some beans and the throttle is nice and crispy... well you get that pretty much most of the drive... I can drive the car for an hour, take the heatsheild off, which is just a little warm, and can touch the pod and it is still cold, so yes, it does make a difference. Hot days are better for the car aswell, it still suffers from the heat, but no where near as bad... The thing is, my car is turboed so with more power you can feel the difference more then an n/a... If you were going to have a crack at it yourself for 100 bucks i'd say worth it, but 300, i think is a bit steep for very minimal gains on a ~100kw skyline, I would put the money to some good oil, plugs, etc or go to a workshop that tunes skylines and get them to advance your timing abit for 100 bucks, you'll gain 10kw out of that as oppose to 1-2kw -
to the OP, well done for actually doing a little bit of research and not just coming on here saying I want a skyline deturboed I dont care about power as long as there is a skyline and they end up with an illegal shitbox that wont take them up a hill... Tell your mate there was a bloke on here that did do what he is proposing and after a couple of months couldnt take it anymore and had to put the turbo back on. It is sensible to get a 33 rb25de and put it into a 32. Not sure on power to weight ratio / engineers of dropping a motor in, so there may still be a few legal issues there but no where near what you would have with a turbo motor. Only cops who a cluey about rb's will be able to tell the difference in motors, but engine number wont match the firewall plate im pretty sure... Perhaps, just as piece of mind, look into how much it would cost to get a workshop to drop the motor in instead of your mate, probably will come with a few months warranty and if the motor shits itself you can take it straight back to them, instead of your mate saying sorry bud lets start again. gl with it.

man I wanna come to this but got massive uni assignment due on Sunday. If hell freezes over and I actually get somewhere with it i'll come
-
I think they choose a skyline because it is one of those cars that alot of blokes look for.... not a big deal imo

Kris, Jamie is just a sensible guy. On some of the other cruises I have been on with him, while others, me inclusive, go a little silly and all try to be at the front of the pack, he just cruises and doesn't have white knuckles at the end of a mountain run, that doesnt mean he cant drive. And when my cooler pipe poped off and everyone went on, he was there to help.

lol interested in the outcome as I was thinking of doing this to the car ( i have abs too) gl, hope it works out.

thats sucks mate, + 4:30am on eastern... what a crappy time. Similar story, my sister has recently got her red p's, been driving for about 2 months in my old man's honda jazz, last week she got pulled up, apparently hadent paid rego for 2 months, she started balling her eyes out and shaking... called my old man with the cop there, put the cop onto my old man, after 15 minutes of talking the cop decided to give her a warning, but they couldnt move the car till it had valid rego... pisses me off that my sister has been sheltered her whole bloody life and she practically had a nervous breakdown on the spot for a bloody fine... big damn deal, If i was the cop I wouldnt have let her off, I said to her, what are you afraid of? they are just people doing there job. so perhaps next time start shaking and being scared like an injured rodent on the side of the road and they may take pity on you.
-
hmm, tempting, will have to check if I got anything on.. btw, Jamie what night cruise are you talking about? I cant see anything in the events area... or is this one of those reasons why I really need to join up to be a vic club member?

im not going to get into the discussion of what silly car can do burnouts, but just keep this in mind: Au falcon- 4ltr 157kW @ 4900 rpm. 357Nm @ 3000 rpm. 1437kgs 33 GTS4 - 2.5ltr 139.75kw @ 6400rpm 230.46nm @ 4800rpm 1440kgs thats curb weight for both... the au has alot more down low torque due to much larger capacity motor.... specs do not work out well for the skyline..... sources: http://www.cars-directory.net/specs/nissan...e/1995_1/21676/ http://www.trueblueford.com/AU_FalconS_Specifications.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_AU_Falcon so no, waste of time, thread is going to go to rubbish if we continue talking about this crap.

How Many Km's Have You Got On Your Rb Motor
WYTSKY replied to Josh_r32's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
180,000 18psi 284rwkw driven 3-4 days a week when I bought it 3.5 years ago it had 84,000 as an N/A...... a lot of kms but still going strong -
No, your car will shit itself and the transfer case will turn into glitter and a troll will jump out of your gearbox and kick you in the nuts. Seriously, your car has ~100kw at the wheels, you have no chance in hell, in the wet it will skid, like any car above 40kw, but you will definitely not produce smoke, however you may be able to produce some noise, something like LLOOOLLLLLL coming from your tyres because you tried to "smoke them"

Cheers guys, i enjoyed the movie as well. Jess doesn't remember that much of it she was dreaming while watching inception while they were in a dream.... weird. Pissed that the manager guy who had called me 4 times in 2 weeks somehow did not pass on the info to the rest of the staff, will talk to him about that for next time. I think the night went well though, i'll plan another shortly. Also, I reckon he was in his dream and his kids were projections.

Leaving now guys, See you all there!
-
Ive just gone and printed 25 maps of the route which I'll hand out at the car wash. Also for guys worried about their stereos, im pretty sure they give out personal radios there if your car wont take the station, at least that is what they did when my battery went flat.
-
DIAF! not really, but dont even think about it
-
Guys, your more then welcome to come down. For everyone that is coming the manager gave me a final call today to make sure we definitely have the minimum 20 cars and I said we did so all is well, more is fine. Now going to spend 3 hours washing/cleaning the car tomorrow

NOT the front CV joints. JUST the front drive shaft! this is what you are looking for. You could not miss it if you hoist/jack up your car.
