  1. Hey guys, Been a long time since I have done an unoffical SAU movie night so here's the next one. This is an open event, meaning members and non-members can attend, as well as friends and family. Movie MIB:3 - Men in Black 3 Meet location: Apple Peel Car Wash - 1 Fitzsimons Lane, Templestowe Meet Time: 7:00pm-7:30pm on Friday, 25th May2012 Leaving time: 8pm (gets us good spots at the drive ins) Movie time: ??? (sometime after 9pm) Destination: Coburg Drive Ins Price: $10 a person or $20 a car, there will also be meal deal vouchers I will organise closer to the event. The more cars we have, the better the discount. Hope to see all the regulars as well as new faces, if you have never attended a SAU event before, this is a great way to meet some of the members and watch a cheap movie that would normally cost you $18 a person. Adam
  2. http://www.skylinesa...__fromsearch__1 searched rb25de in private sale parts. $700 I know that it was posted a couple of months ago, but as an example. http://www.skylinesa...__fromsearch__1 This was posted decemeber last year, "rb25det long motor not 100% sure on condition only idle it in car no noises no smoke car had 66000ks on it, sat in a shed for 8 years after accident $800 firm" http://www.skylinesa...__fromsearch__1 This was posted Sep last year, but has been active up to 2 weeks ago.... "RB25DE non Turbo with 4WD sump (comes with loom + ECU) $600" he is in melb too. You get the idea.... search, stay vigilant, and ye shal find I see heaps of these going on here, just gotta check every day for something new.
  3. drop in a 25... I think you have the worst combo motor the skylines came out with... 2 litre, non turbo, single overhead cam. wouldn't put to much money on it... if you stick with the n/a route I have seen n/a 25de's go for about $600-900 complete, turbo 25de's about 1500-2000.
  4. Unforunetly I only heard about this 2 days before the event from a bloke at gym. Sounds exactly like the stuff I enjoy, testing/pushing myself etc... Would be keen for the next one in VIC whenever that is, only thing holding me back is my runnning, at a fast pace I can get 3kms in 12mins then die or 5kms in 25ish miins then die.... but some people say the running is not so bad as when it is a bit busy, you will jog, wait x mins becasue an event is busy, do the event and continue running, so you get that time to catch your breath. Upperbody stregnth etc would not be an issue. Birds - if theres one near melb in the future we could do it ? Also, I looked into a few others. I fcking wish we had this here! would be awesome! 5. If you don't have time to research/read I'll make it very simple. 1. If your doing it for legal reasons (ie P plater can't have a turbo, found a nice cheap det and want to convert to de) - Don't do it - If a cop pulls you up and sees the engine plate says it's a turbo model, even if a turbo is not hanging off the side, you will still get done. 2. If your doing it for some other weird reason -> to be cool/different/rallying with 2lt n/a requirement - Don't do it - if you search turbo to na or det to de you will see from the people who have done it in the past, it is the most annoying car to drive in the world, marc is not exagerating, you will struggle at every set of lights just to get the car moving, you wont be able to keep up with traffic and it will run that rich you will probably only get 200kms to a tank AND you will have higher maintenance costs ie - spark plugs, oil, etc because they will foul a ton quicker. Summary - Don't do it - find another way.
  6. I used to spend around that crazy amount on pc gear... back before I got a car... rewmeber it took nearly a year to save up for an Nvidia 7800GTX... took up the one PCI slot plus was so big it covred an express slot below it and it was so heavy with it's massive heatsink I had to make a bracket to hold up one side. If you are that paranoid about security I imagine you would have a fairly sofisticated firewall possibly behind a proxy with a dmz? listen to what these guys are saying about mods, like a pc, you can't get some top of the line i7 with a mobo that has onboard gfx and wonder why u can't play any games with a good res and top antiantalising, the system is only as good as it's worst/cheapest component. eg your clutch, what brand/model? you may have upgraded it and it may only be able to hold 240rwkw and your looking at 300kw+ turbos.
  7. That sounds like a manifold to block or manifold to turbo gasket thats blown - have to take turbo (and/or)manifold off if thats the case... much bigger job to just cleaning a maf Fix all these things and I rekon you'll see another improvement in performance and general driveability.
  8. If you want to retain your aircon in a working state while doing this you have to literally remove the entire dash to get back there so you don't have to undo the aircon lines - as soon as you open them you will release the gas = no more aircon. I'm going to put the aircon lines back in my car soon and get them regassed. IMHO though, even if I had aircon at the time when this happened, I would still fix it the way I did above and just get the aircon regassed for ~$100 then to spent 4-6 hours just removing the dash instead of 1 hour.
  9. Yeh, could be missfiring - common causes are failing coilpacks and old spark plugs. How many km's? regularly serviced/looked after? what mods? Spark plugs are cheap and easy fix. Coilpacks are 500-600+ for splitfires which are proven great replacements Yellow jackets are cheaper alternatives in the DIY section here I also believe there might be ways to repair the coilpacks if they have cracked and the spark is getting out other ways then down the coil, but obviously not as fullproof as brand new... Other things could be intercooler piping is popping off slightly when under full bost - have to go around checking all the joins/clamps.
  10. Ahh right, I get you now. But really, to the guy asking the question - if you want to get anything out of your turbo gear, get a tuneable ecu and u'll notice a big difference Also, When I first turboed the car running all standard turbo gear, my economy actually improved because the turbo was helping the motor do the work - provided you are not just thrashing, it will be fine.
  11. As he has said is fine provided you have the gtst injectors and afm. as for adding in a few psi and not getting as much as a Gtst - well I got more - as long as you have a good free flowing exhaust why don't you think you'd get as much as a gtst?
  12. Cheers mate, I can tell anyone thinking about getting involved to give it a crack, it is alot of fun and particularly in events you get to meet alot of members and go out and organise your own events!
  13. oh absolutely.. however, it has been done before on equavalently horrible cars... ie: http://redliners.ca/...cho-SR20DET-RWD http://www.build-thr...d-toyota-platz/ yes a fwd echo converted to rwd with a sr20. so regardless how terrible the car, someone may see some value in it.... but this thread about a kid whinging is on par with a morris marina. OP... that echo would beat your car.
  14. was not saying pretty I was interested to see if someone had gone to the effort of putting an RB into something abit different like a corsair and thought maybe there was some questions/pics/details about it. All i find is some kid whinging " it shits me off." "(AHHHH It's pisses me off ) xD " if it were to beat his n/a skyline....
  15. In regards to the bov open on idle....just thought I would throw something out there, could be completely wrong..... but from memory, someone on here yonks ago was talking about most bovs not working the way they should. they said bovs should leak a bit on idle and what that does is encourage the turbo to start spooling earlier as it is trying to makeup for the lost vaccum? when it starts boosting it holds shut until full boost etc and then release.... but that was with a traditional bov and I cannot remember if people agreed or disagreed... is an interesting design though, I like the stealth applications you could use it fo, whether or not its effective though..
  16. you are petty little boy Brendon.... Big deal if it could beat yours, most things on the road can.... Who waves the flag when you guys start your traffic light grand prix? As everyone has said, go to the drags for bragging rights, everything is speculation until then...
  17. hmmm... is he a known trader/common on the forum? just interesting that he made exactly the same power as me on exactly the same boost on 98.... just make sure he is legit.....
  18. please read the thread, post about import duties/taxes in another thread... trying to keep this on track...I want to know what other setups around the 300 mark people have too.
  19. fair point on the dyno stuff. here's a couple. this was before I added the ms-ibc this was after.... gained another 400rpm response
  20. Damn, sucks to hear mate. whats your plans now? Got a replacement for the meantime?
  21. He is saying that with more boost from a high flow it will kill a high km motor easily... not that the high flows are dodgy.... As for replacing the turbo.. good option with piece of mind is as mentioned get Hypergear to rebuild it, alternatively you can look in the for sale section here for people wrecking or parting out skylines... you can pick up a good condition stock turbo for about 200-300. the only thing is how long will it last again as they are getting quite old now.
  22. engine mods: Turbo conversion, GT3076r, Tial 44mm gate + screamer, Nismo 740 injectors, Power Fc + Comm,TurboSmart Bov, Exhaust cam gear, other support mods - read sig for rest fuel: shell v-max (98) power: 284rwkw 18psi / 21psi? 3xx? oil: motul 8100 100% synthetic useage: daily/cruises very light track work lifespan: nearly 6 years (200,000km) failure: standard servicing parts, of recent - water pump leak, internally, block has never been touched comments: in my possession motor ran: 104rwkw - 1 year, 180rwkw - 1 year, 230rwkw - 2 years, 284rwkw - nearly 2 years so far good idea Hamish!
  23. I have a cushion button clutch in mine James, just holding the power for now (i dont drop it at 5k though), I think they are good up to 260-280ish? theres a chart somewhere... and feels just as comfy as stock.
  24. Found it first try http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/104332-rb30-hybrid-upgrade-all-dyno-results/page__view__findpost__p__4454551
