R33 Gts4 Engine Swap To A Turbo
WYTSKY replied to HannibalK1ng's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
you know... this is the reason I said if your going to have fmic or loud bovs that cops are going to be all over u? your mum isnt going to want to drive your car either because it will be cop bait even for her or if you do get caught she wont have a car because yours will be canaried! interms of a fmic... if you arent looking to go over 400kw then one of those hybrid kits with all the pipings do the trick.. i have one, cheap, effective cooling, and hasent given me a single hassle! now... I am not going to give you sh*t because you asked for your car to sound like this http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=JXRSg9BFdOE...this time...but dont dare go onto the turbo threads and ask how to make your car sound like this because you will be flamed until the cows come home and then the thread blocked. so I'll give you a quick explanation of what that sound is. basicly your bov recirculates air back around your system... the cho cho cho sound you hear is created by blocking off or removing your bov and instead of the air following the path it is meant to take it goes back through the system, and the sound it created as the turbo blades are cutting up the air the wrong way. It is horrible for performance because it makes your turbo wheel spin the opposite direction before it can stop, jolt and spin the correct way its meant to, so it makes your car much more laggy and horrible to drive, ie very jerky, you can even stall some times. Ontop of this IT DECREASES TURBO LIFE massivly as they were created to spin fluently in one direction... so this is a great way to blowup ur turbo, and possibly your motor if some of the rear fins fly into your engine. SO... Dont do it! Get a standard bov that has a great sound anyway, and will keep your car running smooth and have better performance. -

Very intersting! I didnt know that... I heard they did match up? but if youve had first hand experience then good enough for me! and also HannibalK1ng, im on my P's... planning on having a front mount intercooler or noisy bov??? they will be all over you if you answered yes to either of those.... im running a much larger turbo then standard... my internals are fine... why would you change them for only 10-12psi?! but atleast youve choosen the easier option of turboing your current motor... -
finding out u killed your box 3 times wasent enough with this monster setup? wouldnt want to sepeate a few bits would you? if not...Gl with it!

Make Your Own Neat Looking Cold Air Intake/cai!

Afm does not matter if it is directly behind the pod/standard intake or near the throttle body, aslong as it can measure the amount of air going into the engine. I know this because when I got my new big turbo, it obveously was doing its job blowing air hard into the system, but it also forced a small amount of air to go back the other way, which gave the afm a negative reading, the way around this is to relocate the afm And yeh... with melbs weather + pot holes... just gotta look out for the deep ones filled with water if your pod is right at the bottom of the bumper Adam -

as long as you have a healthy engine and dont fang all the time you dont have to swap the internals.... im running 14psi atm on a much larger then stock turbo and may be going to 16psi in 2 days... if you are planning on running more then that then u'll be getting forged internals anyway... plus are you using a standard turbo? they wont go much past 10-12psi anyway.... -
IMO its not really worth it (going through all the conversion) because you also need to upgrade calipers etc etc, which ofcourse is great for safety, but for non turbo power I would say its overkill... but you do both at the same time when you do the 5 stud conversion. If your in melb I can recommend a place that did mine for quite a decent price. Adam

Hey mate, why are you choosing to get a new engine over turboing your current one ?? I choose to keep my current engine to avoid hassles with the 4wd stuff, but yeh, I think if you keep your sump and put the rest of a turbo motor ontop you should be ok... -
Thanks mate, much appreciated! they are booth speco's... the 2 inch is a boost guage and the 4 inch is a tacho. heres a scetchy picture of what they look like atm. cheers!
-
hey bud... I have been looking around for a while, I dont know if these are possible.. but I have a 4 inch guage and a 2 inch guage... wanting to know if you guys would have or could get a pillar to suit the 2?? Cheers, Adam

my car is proof that turbos are better Depending on how you drive them, from n/a.. n/a used a lot of fuel to get up hills etc.. turbo just cruises... used to get about 350-380 out of n/a when I turboed with stock parts got 500km! now, with bigger fuel pump/afm/injectors/turbo get about 400-450.

New Exhaust Too Loud, How To Lower Noise?

horrible to hear mate, hope they get what they deserve and your car gets fixed properly. if you need to go to oakleigh smash repairs they arent bad, paul is ok. they did my 5 stud and turbo brake conversion quite cheaply and well... but i stopped using them for mechanical stuff after they sold me an old generation hypergear turbo with a chipped fin for the same price as a new one, which I showed Tao, the owner of hypergear and he told me he sold them that turbo ages ago for demo purposes only. they were ok about it though, took it off for me for free and gave me my money back, just wish they didnt lie to me. so just make sure you know everything about the part you get before you go... just to make sure.. part wise though they are fantastic, always have eveything I need. Also, because you are in the area, near me, mckinnon smash repairs on north rd oposite dunkin mckinnon oval are apparently one of the best car repairers in melb, done great job on my car, twice. may I ask where it happend? might be where I am thinking of... best of luck with it. Adam

Cheers mate, done everything you said a long time ago apart from getting a clear plastic cover... which imo doesnt look ricey... then again, to each his own...

New Exhaust Too Loud, How To Lower Noise?

An eye for eye only ends up making the whole world blind. - M.K. Gandhi sorry, didn't think there was much point put something related to exhausts because we have gone over it for this guy so many times ( and I leant something on the way) just thought would chuck in a cool quote actually... something partially useful... look into exhaust valves... work very well in quieting and exhaust and you can open and close them for times when you want to fang... Use the search this time though... -
Thanks mate! just what I was looking for. Adam

with a stock pipe you mean using the standard panel filter setup and snorkel? or with the standard side mount still there? perhaps send me a pic of your setup? --------------------------------------- I thought about putting the pod lower where the cai starts and not having to worry about a heatsheild and it can be done. but bear this in mind: -its very close to the ground, driving in the wet could cause big problems -you will have to change it almost weekly depending on how much you drive -There would be problems with the afm aswell if you wanted to keep it directly behind the air filter, ie you would have to extend the loom so that it could reach behind the pod, make a custom pipe to keep it where it is and include it in the induction system. -because it would be that low and practically exposed to the elements except for a pod infront of it, it could fail pretty soon, causing your ecu hell! so I choose my setup instead -
you can look on redbook.com to get the average value of your car

hey guys, my car is going back to sam next week for the last bits and pieces to be done on the engine, of which includes an exhaust cam gear. while doing it I was thinking he could maybe replace my stock cam gear cover with one of those clear cam gear covers off just jap, but I got a few ques... 1. will it fit an rb25? - if not can you get some? where? 2. is the quality decent? 3. are they legal? or can they melt and your engine goes boom, catches on fire, kills you while you drive into an orphange? soz... but cops defected my old oil based pod once because they said it could "catch on fire" any experiences with them would be great too! Thanks, Adam
-
but u can get a decent aftermarket exhaust cam gear new to suit your car at that price... thought that would be better then trying to ge t them to fit?
-

Does It Make A Difference If My Exhaust Is Twin/single?
WYTSKY replied to Awesome's topic in Engines & Forced Induction

I just didnt understand how you went from 12.7cm to 127.xxx ... but as soon as someone said pieR^2 I got it. Least I learnt something today! regards, Adam P.S isnt it funny how "awsome" hasent even replied to his own thread?! -
