  1. Yesterday, Was laughing at a done up prelude at the lights next to me when he decided to give it. He passed me and I was laughing telling my mates that when I hit 4000rpm it'll be all over... Oh man, was I wrong! We raced upto 160km/h and I couldn't catch up to him! Is this because I'm a really bad driver, or because that car really can pull that off? I think it had a catback, mine's completely stock. Irony is, I sold my last Prelude (GEN 4, VTec) to get a Skyline, and never dreamt that it could keep up with anything like I have now. I know stock Gts25t's are slow, but still, I would have thought I'd catch him higher up in the revs...
  2. Have u checked if it goes away when you press the clutch in? If it does as you lightly press on the clutch, it might be a bearing or the ball/fork pivot joint.
  3. I've never come across a site as helpful as this... thanks guys! I'll go in for round 2 sometime either tonight or the weekend.
  4. Apparently he used the ground from the factory radio ISO plug, so that's ok right? The illumination wire is still just taped up that's all. Where's the fuse for the factory radio's constant?
  5. HAHAHA, dude you're the man! I like lucky number 7, always works for me.
  6. DRDOOF Dude, lol, the car before this was a Prelude as well. And the same mate that installed it said that it was the hardest car he'd worked on to date. The guy has his own audio business so I figured I'd give him a go first. Cleutin I'm at Sydney, Castle Hill to be exact.
  7. Yesterday, got a mate to install my new pioneer head unit. Somehow he blew the dash fuse, so we replaced that, but in the process of trying to figure that out, we somehow lost constant 12V coming to the clock/deck. To get the deck/clock working, hee then borrowed the constant 12V from the double blinkers, and then replaced the fuse and the tail lights were working again. Today, I turn the car on, stereo plays, dash and tails are again shot! What's happened? Any ideas? I'm freaking out here, and I've scratched my dash real bad. Has anyone else also found that to refit the console behind the steering wheel is a real pain in the neck? To save myself $50 for a deck install, I've now somehow got an electrical problem that might take more than $50 to fix, and a badly scratched console that I can't stand looking at.
  8. Anyone know what kind of product I can buy to restore the matte finish on the R33 skyline dash/console? I've scratched the matte finish accidentally and it's all glossy underneath. Anything I can do? I'm talking about the matte finish of the console which holds the deck, climate control unit, etc. P.S. I know I'm fussy.
  9. Dude, for everyone else sayin' u got bad luck, i gotta say u have some real good luck. I can't believe that u guys got outta that one safely. It's only money... can be made again: and think of it this way, next time u know better. The fact that u tried to avoid hittin the roo proves ur a nice guy, and that's why everyone escaped without much harm. It's all about karma.
  10. Hmm, chirping seems to go in the rain...
  11. I'm all thumbs when it comes to mechanical repairs. I know it's easy to do, but I don't know where this pivot joint is, and I don't want to f it up! But it doesn't come across as serious, just annoying! Yeah I thought $800+ for a bearing was a bit excessive too, I almost had a heart attack because they said that they had to take the whole transmission and gearbox apart. Sounds like a major job!
  12. I've recently bought a GTS25T and everytime I start the car, I can hear a constant chirping sound when the clutch is not pressed. As soon as I even touch the clutch pedal, the noise stops completely. My mechanic has told me over the phone that it's either the throwout bearing ($800+ to fix) or the transmission (over a grand to fix). However it's not a big sound at all, and doesn't seem like it could damage anything. It can't be the throwout bearing, because the characteristic of a worn throwout bearing is loud chirping when the clutch is pressed, not released. So I've googled and googled, and this seems to be the most cost-effective solution, it makes sense but I just want some acknowledgement before I go and try this procedure: "To fix the squeeling; chirping; or whirring sound that goes away as soon as you apply even the slightest pressure on the pedal. You need to replace the lubrication that has dried up at the point of the shift fork and pivot ball stud. The loss of lube has allowed it to dry up and the noise you hear is actually a frequency vibration and as soon as you put pressure on the pedal it dampens the frequency, and the noise disappears. To replace the lube do the following: Get a can of disc brake wheel bearing grease and a small stiff brush, like an 'acid brush' Pull the shift fork boot away from the bell housing Push the shift fork forward, towards the front of the car. This will be difficult, but you can do it. It will probably look dry and rusty in the area of the contact of the ball stud Now, while holding the fork forward, take the brush that has been loaded with a dab of grease, and smooth the grease around the area of the ball stud and shift fork dimple. Do this 2 or 3 times. Replace your shift fork boot, if so equipped. You will have eliminated the noise. As soon as you start up the engine, the noise will be gone." What do you guys think?
  13. Cheers brother. Decided to pay a bit more anyway and get it done with a guarantee.
  14. I need some quotes for alarm installation for a Rhino RAv2 with inbuilt turbo timer. Also I will be getting some ultrasonics and internal siren as well. So far I've been quoted $139 from a local guy, however I want to get some other quotes so that I can compare. I have central locking, so I don't know what else I need apart from this. My car is a Skyline R33 GTS25t. Please help!
