  1. Tuner has said that i need new shims. I am running 640bhp so parts will wear out sooner rather than later lol. Anyway i am living with the noise for the time being until he has time for the car to go in for the works. The noise comes and goes depending on how often i drive the car as petrol in the UK isnt exactly cheap at the moment. Something like $2.10 for 1litre and it just drinks it. I should drive it more really. Gez
  2. I have the same problem. The guy who had the car before me put on a huge SARD dumpvalve and removed the re-circ system. Due to the dumpvalve being rusty etc the car now wants to stall when i come to a standstill and have to give it a small blip on the throttle to sort it. No dumpvalve wont do your turbos any favours. Gez
  3. Sounds like a nice spec to get some good power. I would also look at the fuel pump and perhaps upgrade that as well. With all that in place you should see around 550-600bhp at the fly. I wouldnt rev much past the 8000rpm limit as N1 oil pumps dont like high revs plus you are keeping std rods. Saying that, with good mapping the engine should last for quite a while but i would run a compression test every 4 or 5 months to ensure everything is fine. I would also look at a sump extention with baffles. Gez
  4. Ok My mechanic had a really good look at the car and listened with a stethascope as well as carrying out compression test and all seems sweet. The knock seems to be coming from the valvetrain and it seems that it needs re-shimming and some other small bits. Its not the end of the world and its not going to cost $thousands. At least its safe to drive but the downside is that the cams are starting to wear a little faster than i want them to. I suppose thats the price i have to pay for running 700bhp. Gerry
  5. Hi guys, Im hoping someone can shed some light on a few questions regarding my R33 GTR. I bought the car around 1 year ago and my company has offered me a fantastic job in Sydney which i am going to take. Problem is that i dont want to sell my GTR (if i dont have to). Is it possible to bring my car to Sydney and drive it legally baring in mind the car runs 640bhp??? Any help appreciated. Regards Gerry
  6. My mechanic is due to come over in the next hour or so so should have a good idea. He swaers that it cant be the big ends as we only changed them about 2 months ago along with a new R34 crank which was balanced etc. That was due to a dodgy nissan oil filter which decided to pack up. We are going to pull the cam covers off and chack for any obvious faults...If its not that then our worst fears will be confirmed. Take b100dy engine out again and look for obvious faults.....My history of skyline ownership has never been good dammit........Will keep you posted. RB20JT to re-seat the valves is not a major job but in terms of cost i really dont know what the prices are like in Australia but when you do find out let me know as it looks like i will be moving to Sydney within the next year on a job transfer and would like to know what the prices of ownership are like in Oz. Which reminds me, i will post a few questions on how easy it is to bring my car over. Gerry
  7. Fingers crossed its nothing major man........My tuner is coming over in the morning to have a listen to it. If it was the bearings wouldnt the noise be permanent??? Gez
  8. Here is a sound clip io managed to get today when i started her. Full spec of the car is as follows just in case it could be one of the mods Apex V-max SPL pistons with cooling channles Trust rods R34 crank balanced Nismo 24 U Block Apexi 280degree cams with 10.5mm lift Apexi double springs Trust greddy Intake plenum Greddy t517z trubos Trust oil pump As i mentioned, this noise does go after the oil starts warming up and there is no loss in performance thats for sure lol CIMG0895.WAV
  9. The oil pressure is great due to the trust oil pump. Im seeing 7bar when the car is stone cold and just over 2 bar on idle when the oil reaches 80 degrees. Pressure whilst driving is also very good. I also have trust sump extension. Gerry
  10. Thanks for your response guys....The bearings were only done about 3 months ago due to a dodgy filter so i am hoping that they havent gone again. When they did go the noise was not like this and the mechanic seems to think that the noise is my clearances thet need sorting. This time its kind of coming from the top and definately towards the middle of the exahust side cam but as i said the noise does go away after a few minutes. Gerry
  11. Hi Guys, I know its my forst post but i need some help. I am hearing bit of a knocking noise coming from the top of my R33 GTR engine (turbo side) a few seconds after it starts. The noise kinda increases with revs but disappears after 3k rpm but returns when i let go of the gas. The knocking does go when oil get slightly warm after 3 or 4 minutes. I have also taken the oil cap off when the engine is on and i can hear a clicking/tapping kind of noise. The noise has got a bit louder over time but i am hoping its the clearances or lifters and nothing more than that. Anyone have any suggestion or further dignostic help??? Gerry
