hey ya'll, i like many people have a bit of a crunchy box - gearbox that is. The most apparent and common crunch is definitely 1st -> 2nd. we all know it gets better as things warm up, but while it's cold (and even while its warmed up for that matter) give double clutching a go! you can do it with a little throttle blip if you really want a'la double-down-shifting, but it's not really necessary in everday driving. instead of just: pushing in the clutch; and shifting the stick down through neutral to second release clutch do this: push the clutch in (doesn't have to go all the way) move the stick from 1st to neutral release clutch briefly push clutch in again shift from neutral to 2nd release clutch it takes a while but if you are used to double down-shifting, it should be a breeze. if you're not used to it - it's a great way to get used to the motion of double-clutching and will put you in good stead to start double down-shifting and start saving your clutch and synchros. i know this has been mentioned before in other "crunchy gearbox" threads, but i thought i would bring some attention to it as maybe there are other people who are nursing their gearbox and/or clutch until they can afford to replace them. cheers

... a car's a car dude. and a replacement hose etc goes on exactly the same way it came off. they gaurantee their work for like 12 months too. there's plenty of stories about so-called "import specialists" doing dodgy work. its a nissan, not a lambo.

oops my bad!! some pics don't show up on this forum when i'm at work. i can see them on the home pc now :S oopsy! -
as motul and redline, i think i've read all 30 something pages of that thread about oils. rp aint bad of course and you're not going to see any detrimental effects running it. its pretty good for the price you can get it for.
-
that's pretty good! all lube mobile did was tell me is: LM "To get a mechanic onsite to do this for you you would be looking at our minimum charge of $132.80 for the first 45 minutes and $99.80 per hour thereafter." ME "Any indication of how long this type of job would take?" LM "The mechanic will be able to give a better indication onsite." which i thought was pretty lame, but they called me after i said "why not just put those prices on the website then!?" and she said I wouldn't have to pay for anything if he came out and gave a quote that I wasn't prepared to accept.

it's usually less than a days work. actually no more than 4 hours for a mechanic (tops) otherwise you'd have to question their skill level. but that's just for a fluids, belts, water pump, idler bearings etc change. if you add in extra stuff it'll take longer obviously.

hey man, you haven't added the pics correctly -
hey man, what part numbers did you use for these? they're 3 different belts right? did you do the power steering belt too? only reason i ask is i'm probably gonna get lube mobile to do my 100km service and just supply all the parts (a workshop quoted me $600 for the labour). I just want to have everything there ready to fit. Will probably also take out the radiator etc for the guy to save money (he can put it back for me though ) just don't want to have to guess with things like the timing and tension and don't have a harmonic balancer puller.
-
doing my 100km service soon and figured i'd do the other belts 'down there' are these the same for an R33 GTST?: - Belt Fan & Alternator AY140-40880- - BeltCompressor AY140-40925- - BeltPower Steering AY140-40950-

not stirring the pot or anything... but i'd happily go out on a limb and say redline is better than motul. but then again it does cost more, and the benefits....well depends who you talk to i guess - much of a muchness probably. I think, but don't quote me, that redline is the only group V oil you can get, while motul is a group IV. granted royal purple is not in the same league though. in fact given the lack of info about rp i'm considering just going with mobil1 for my 'flush' oil.

R33 Standard Springs & Exhaust
made_guy replied to livewire's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
might want to get more creative with your pricing...people are 'giving' away stock exhausts quite often. -
not from performancelub - try justjap for motul, they seem pretty reasonable.
-
my stock R33gtst was making 350kms per 50L with a dump, cat back, clean AAC, new fuel, air and oil filter - it still makes 350
-
helllll yeah man! for sure

anyone got any more info on this?? was gonna get mine painted with radiator paint (black) for cooling efficiency but anodising black would swoit

Not a direct comparison, but a workshop up here (gold coast) quoted me $600 to fit: new timing belt - supplied by me new exhaust gear - supplied by me new tensioner and idler - suplied by me seals - supplied by me water pump - supplied by me other belts - workshop supplied coolant - workshop supplied oil (unknown type) - workshop supplied. this is a 3 hour job MAX for a mechanic - so either the other belts, oil and coolant are suuuper expensive or that's some expensive labour. maybe i'll give lube mobile a try....
-
yeah man, i asked bursons how much for redline (cos they're one of the few places that stock it on the gold coast and was quoted $160 for 4 litres. seriously check out the "The goods on oils" thread - http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...showtopic=22458 redline is the shiz, but you also pay for quality with this gear. also it will last longer than other oils (good for 7500-10000kms) so it actually works out not as expensive as it initially looks. thats why i'm using the cheaprer (rp or mobil1) to run through my engine for my sub 5000km changes before i start using the redline.
