  1. maybe the higher flowing cat would only come into play with other mods that up the kws? any other thoughts? or maybe i'm just trying to justify my iminent purchase of the same 3-5-3 catco you got. i figure it's a bit of future security.
  2. you should run a headlight exchange business!! i would love to do this, but am afflicted with accute laziness and lack of a compressor
  3. Hey man, after reading a lot of this stuff I went with royal purple to start with from performancelub.com (mobil 1 is the same price). It is a reasonably good oil i think for a good price. I am planning to do a sub 5000km change on it again anyway to clean the engine a bit, and I'm planning to use the mobil 1 this time round. Then after that I think I'm going to bite the bullet and use the redline but from what i've heard, this oil could probably be safe for up to 10000km so I'm going to look at changing the redline every 7000km when i start to run that. hope that makes sense. p.s. you can read and read and read, but generally there is no real 'cheap' way to run 'the best' stuff. if you want the best, go for redline. if you want the next step down, go motul 300v, if you want the next step down, go mobil 1. if you want the NEXT step down, sell your car and buy something that likes cheap 20w50
  4. hmmm i always favoured shell stuff (optimax prior to v power) cos that's what they use for the v8 supercars (shell makes them one big batch at the start of every season and they all draw from the same batch to keep things stable) or at least they used to. so when i bought my skyline (all of about 3 months ago) i took it straight to shell and filled her up and she felt great. but then the second tank felt like shit. so i switched over to caltext vortex with mixed results. maybe i'll give shell another go.... edit: are all v-power's 100 octane?? i think, but can't be sure that the one i used was 98??? Hungry Jacks over the highway from mudgeeraba on the goldy if anyone knows.
  5. i got one of these on my car and I can say it definitely frees up the exhaust a lot over the stocker - even with just the standard dump and cat (didn't realise i needed a genuine nissan gasket for the dump!). Plus it doesn't sound or look like every other 3" cannon around. has a much deeper, thicker and smoother note. i'll keep mine til i can afford a full titanium system (though this isn't very heavy anyway - i fitted it with my car on stands on my own [using a skateboard to hold one end off the ground ]) free bump and marketing for you andrew!
  6. ring your local nissan dealer if you haven't already. i got quote $36 tho...
  7. so why didn't you say so to start with? i'm pretty sure that's what i asked dude, i'm a full on newbie, so i'm not hanging sh!t on you. your dyno sheets look good and I'm sure you'll see some significant gains with all that stuff. you're just going about it in a different way to most people (which is FINE of course) and you're not going to be able to attribute power gains to specific mods (which is half the fun for most people). so if you're gonna post up a shopping list like that just to 'show' people, don't get upset when you get responses like you have. peace out
  8. hahaha give the guy a break, is obviously quite distraught! but don't forget eric, the name 'pig' is used for a reason....
  9. hmm i was confused by someone putting in a silencer and wondering about a power loss (plus forgetting to do up a hose clamp)....then i saw you're from new zealand and it alll made sense!!! it's ok mate, there's always aussies to help you guys out peace out aaron!
  10. i have a question that may or may not be appropriate here so don't shoot me - if you have a controller that has the tee-piece that goes to the 'in cabin/remote' controller (the tubing supplied wasn't long enough to go in cabin that's for sure) do you connect the tube that most people block off with a screw to the 'exhaust' outlet on the boost controller?
  11. all i can say is i admire your patience!! that is a sweet shopping list! i don't think i would've waited for an "all at once" install to fit the wanky parts though though I've only had my skyline for about 2 months, i prefer working on it progressively, building it up really and doing as much of it myself as possible. i don't think i would get much satisfaction form doing it that way. though that's not meant as an insult or anything - if i could afford a ferrari (i.e. a mean mofo of a machine straight out of the box!) i would! though i suppose after a little while I would be looking around for ways to mod it all in all, i, like most other people will be glad to see some impressive dyno results after its all done (did you do a "before" dyno run by the way to see just how big the improvement is?)
  12. how much approx is the full monty? i'm currently saving up for a clutch and am looking at going for something that greatly exceeds my short term power goals as a way of limiting further outlay for a different clutch later on? when i spoke to him i think i was looking at around $700 for an organic type and around the $900+ for a carbonics one. But as I was only getting an 'idea' at the time and the realisation that I was going to have to invest a reasonable amount in order to get something worthwhile (as opposed to a cheapie exedy) I didn't go into much more detail (by the time I get around to pooling my cash for it, i would have forgotten details anyway). pm me if you'd prefer (lots of people don't like to post quoted prices for some reason) Dane
  13. whoa - how come you did the 'whole' wheel man? kind of looks like a stuffed toy. but effective i guess nonetheless
  14. let me know how you go finding one - i too am on the lookout for a trustworthy, yet affordable and knowledgable skyline mechanic on the coast
  15. ahh sweet ones, yeah i got a cheap greddy cam gear a while back and figured i might as well fit it at the same time in 'anticipation' of future upgrades. that's cool thanks for the tip anyway - you're right i DO need an accurate boost gauge!
  16. just the one....to be able to retard the exahaust timing a little bit
  17. i tell you, there's something about girl skyline owners! maybe it's from all the gearchanging or hard steering, but they sure know how to use their hands... i would wave to anyone that waved to me! promise!! but if it was a pretty skyliner girl, i would just blush and probably crash into something and then give the "call me" signal
  18. haha, maybe the "close topic" option should be exercised a bit more liberally
  19. dumb question - do you know if this would fit a series 1.5 bar?
  20. nice- if only they were 18's and 9" wide! good luck with the sale, love nismo wheels and that's a really good price
  21. Hey hey, I am getting my stuff together for my 100k service and fitting an adjustable cam gear, new belt, water pump, idler etc etc and am not confident doing it myself. However, I would like to learn so I'm after someone on the gold coast who has done this before who would come and do this (my place or theirs - have trolley jack + stands and a few tools) and let me 'sit in' and watch help out as needed. Of course I will throw some cash your way - the alternative would be spending a couple of hundred and getting a workshop to do it for me. PM me if you want to help me out. Cheers Dane
  22. umm, fitted my gear boot fine, but the frame in the handbrake boot is flat - not the same as the original one which is bent??? pm sent
