  1. Please don't come to the next one.... I will have to spend money in order to keep up with a silly little french hatchback that just left the showroom... grrr Haha, J/K, that's a damn quick car and you drove it awesomely. Were you driving for the epic FWD save coming out of the fish hook on one of the slow down laps? Hilarious!
  2. *warning - this footage may disturb some viewers* One last lap...
  3. Just wanted to thank everyone who organised this event, and everyone who showed up. Had an awesome day! By the last session I ran in I'd done that many laps I ended up coming in a lap before the checkered flag was shown because I decided I'd had enough haha. Eric, thanks for taking the time to post up that video, great coverage of most cars. Just glad when you had the cam on me (7:28) I hit the apex - phew:P
  4. http://autospeed.com/cms/title_Intelligent...27/article.html Start of a good discussion on water cooling, which would be a much better option than a thermo fan
  5. Hi, 2 things... Firstly, can we organise an L2S license through the club? On the day or should I do it prior. Oh, and how much? Secondly, can you put my passenger (Nathan Cantore) on the list please - Paid for him last week... Thanks!
  6. Just paid another $20 for a passenger... Nathan Cantore
  7. Hmm, even though I'd love to have a go at it, the more people I discuss this with, the more it seems like an SR would be a better choice though. An SR20VE out of the box, no mods will make ~150kw at the flywheel, and it will take alot of work to get the RB to that level. That's the other big issue... it really is an unknown with the RB, because so few people have bothered.
  8. Put them on ebay - I couldn't get rid of wheels on here for free... put em on ebay and got $60...
  9. Just paid... should be good! Full Name: Chris Larmour Car Type: R32 Newb or not: Not Most recent lap time if not newb (can be another track if necessary but make sure you mention which one): ~1:15ish May have passengers... still waiting on confirmation - I can add them in later right?
  10. Haha, yeah, I was going to mention that. Note the dirt on your rear tyre/guard lol
  11. Awesome comprehensive reply, some good points there... The VVL head is obviously key to generating decent power in the VE, but you would think in a race motor by matching the cams to everything else, and then running the motor in its optimal power band you would mostly make up for having variable timing...? As you said the biggest problem with the rb20 is the weight - can't do much about that. That said, why go to all the trouble of fitting an SR into a skyline when there is already a 2 Door Rwd coupe that needs no mods - i.e. a Silvia (which has been proven to be pretty successful in IPRA). Half the fun would be doing something different... which brings me back to the point of this thread - trying to decide whether it would have half a chance of working or whether it would be a complete waste of time and money.
  12. Some more happy snaps featuring thread contributors...
  13. Thanks for some more constructive replies, not sure where I said I wouldn't change my mind, so I'm all ears for options. SR20 power is proven in U2L IPRA so I agree with everyone that says its a better choice and easier to make NA power. But then, since I'd be running a Pulsar motor, I may as well put it in a pulsar which is probably lighter anyway. To those who keep suggesting other motors and classes, IPRA is split into 2 classes, Under 2L and Over 2L. If you run a turbo car you must run an intake restrictor and you must multiply your capacity by 1.7, moving almost every turbo car into the Over 2L category where you go up against Natro 5+L commodores and falcons, and of course the benchmark rotary Rx7s. Sticking within the 2L class should keep costs lower (though maybe not by running a trailblazing Rb20). Would putting an sr20 into a gts-t be considered sacreligious?
  14. Here's some piccys.... more later if I cbf
  15. Thanks for your input Duncan, Interesting how you said inch perfect yet I noted Dave used alot more kerb in some areas - I think your claim is valid though given how stiffly sprung the cars were, using the harsh saw tooth kerbs in the evo would likely bounce it off the track. Anyway, i'll stop nitpicking drivers from my keyboard and get some photos up
  16. Making comparisons to V8 supercars is ridiculous. They are built to rules that that govern almost every aspect of the car...superlap rules are a little bit more liberal in comparison. For the V8 supercars to be doing those times when you see the technology and freedoms for the superlap cars... speaks volumes for the lumbering taxis, their drivers and engineers in my opinion. Anyway, the day was great, heaps to see, awesome cars. But what happened to the shootout they've run the previous couple of years? I loved the 1 car, empty track, 1 chance to get it right approach - tests the car and the driver. I personally think that the final standings should be decided by this format run last on Sunday - by the last sessions yesterday it seemed like many had given up and had decided they wouldn't go any quicker. What does everyone else think? I'm also intrigued as to what those with more experience think about the fastest lap done by the sierra sierra car Strange lines...? Compare them to someone who has done a billion race laps around EC, Mr Loftus, and there are big differences at T2, T6/7 and T12 onto the straight. Dave (and others), what do you think? A second or so still in that car?
  17. Good to see a few people with enthusiasm for the project For those who wanted to use a SR20ve... Have you seen any examples of people mounting them longitudinally (such as using them to replace a SR20de or RB?) From what I can tell, this is going to be much more expensive and difficult than building up a fancy rb20, but by all means prove me wrong. As for expense.... it does build up quickly. Browsing through some of the gear, prices like $400 for valve springs, $1200+ for rods etc certainly make me stop and think. Maybe using a $100 wrecker motor bottom end is the way to go while developing the head.
  18. Well, there will be a street where the Main straight used to be, but it won't actually be the main straight. They could have at least kept the strip of bitumen that had the finish line painted on it...
  19. Good to see there's plenty of opinions, thanks for the replies all. Some good points have been raised, here's a few things to clarify. Improved production rules state that the engine block must have the same number of cylinders as was available in the original car, and must be from the same manufacturer. So for those who have mentioned it, you could run an SR powered Skyline if you want to. This also means you could put this fantasy 200hp NA Rb20 into a light(er) R30 or R31 chassis - but that said, you should be able to strip an r32 down to a similar weight and make use of the updated suspension components. And to be a front runner, well if we use the Civics as a benchmark, they are using engines which put out around 150kw from the factory, so you'd have to assume in race trim they would be up around 180kw??? (at the engine). They are also in a chassis which weighs around 1150kg from the factory. But then again, you don't necessarily have to run at the front of the field to have fun (and besides, did anyone even listen to this thing?
  20. ^^^ The only limit is moneys... and rules. IPRA rules say that you must run pump fuel, so e85 is as good as you're going to be allowed to use. No methanol. And yes, SR20VE may be a better motor, but I wasn't asking for people to name better motors than the RB20. I could have done that myself. So back to the original question - what would you do to make the rb20 as good as it could be? Does anyone know of any serious NA rb20s around? Its good to see the support of a few people saying someone should have a go at it - maybe thats evidence that few have tried (or is it that those who have tried failed miserably? )
  21. ^^^ on the money. Does anyone definitively know the weight difference between an sr20de and an rb20de? Some googling tells me theres around 40-50kg difference, but its hard to find a definite answer. I'm also struggling to find anyone who bothered putting in any effort to make the RB reach its full potential. Surely you could make it rev harder than the SR and make up the difference? LOL Do you mean the R34 rb20 neo? These would be very hard to get in oz I would assume, as no rb20 r34s made it here (correct?). What's the difference and is it worth the hassle?
  22. Ok, this is a hypothetical... at this stage. I've been dreaming of building an RB20 for use in Under 2L Improved Production Racing, just because it would be something different to the swarms of 4Cyl Vtecs and what not running in the series, plus I'd love to hear something like this at the track - I know Screamin has done a similar thing with his R32 GTS rally car in NZ, and the fact that he reckons his car is pretty competitive makes me want to do it even more. So my question is this - what would you do to make the ultimate RB20DE, keeping in mind you can't turbo it, and you must keep it the same capacity. Head is free as are most other components. Some of the things I have considered and would like to see discussed include: - Higher compression running on E85 (how high can you go?) - ITB setup similar to Screamin's (see http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Rb...d-t222993.html) - Solid lifters to make it rev (to what redline?) - Upgraded springs, larger valves? - Cams, Port and Polish etc... (what specs?) - Oiling mods - lighter/stronger pistons/rods (would they be needed considering DETs can put out 250kw+ in stock form?) - Anything else And finally, how much power do you think it would make, is it worth it, or should I stop dreaming and move on...
  23. Oh I see what you've done there Giant... Someone send the link to ACA and watch them get their facts screwed up
  24. still got these... nobody wants tyres?
  25. Haha, but to put that into perspective... these $160k+ cars with $x000's worth of mods only beat a Toyota starlet (on road tyres) by less than 4 seconds... But seriously, damn impressive times. I wish my car only took that long to get down the front straight.
