Hey mate, unless you want to sacrifice your bell housing and a couple of other things. I have a 300zx box, which is bigger and tougher again, but thats the problem, need a bellhousing. Thanks anyway

Hey guys, am looking for a RE jatco type box from an r33 or r31 s3. /don't care if it is knackered, just need certain parts off of it.

What do you mean qualifiy?? 9.95@147mph is rocking!!! good on yah!!! Thats what i want to be doing..... What was done to the box?? Is it the RE401 or 300zx base, RE403?? Obviously its not the old style hydraulic jatco 4speed. -

Ah very interesting. Yah that makes sense. Yah the 2 solenoids would be for band engagement and the other for clutch engagement, between the 2 of them, will give you 3 gears, then overdrive and as you say lock up clutch. The lock up clutch and overdrive would be easy to hook up, simple switches if you like, but its the whole PWM thing. So really you can make it all a sports shift(ie 100%line pressure and full clutch/band engagement) with simple micro switching or have it grandpa spec with stock type PWM outputs. Would you be able to make up a system whereby you could simply switch from using the standard computer to then use a micro controller or even manualised?? Possibly similar to "ECO/SPORTS" switch.. I think thats how they might do it in some cars. It all sounds so simple!!! heehe -

Wow, yah you know your stuff. I have a basic understanding and know what your talking about, but to start pulling out oscilliscopes and what not, too much for me. I'll just buy something. Obviously you've talked to MV, as he makes a controller. You working together with this at all?? You know you can get a boss kit with paddle shift so you can strap on a sports steering wheel?? I know its for a commonwhore, but not sure about skyline spline. Might work. Do the solenoids use PWM to control things like clutch/band speed activation and line pressure, though i think line pressure is spring tension controlled. -

Matt, yah the sump is what is getting me thinking. might have to cut the standard and spin it around..... Will try and get a patrol sump, but it could be hard to get one. Engine and gearbox mounts shouldn't be hard to fabricate, just need some 5mm flat bar and sheet. You know its funny, thought about manual, actually mates are saying manual, glad i disreguarded pretty quick. Yah it would be a handful, but easy to convert to 4 link, which should help, but hey its really only getting built for the weekends and drags. Can't wait to finish it and take it to the drags and show those redneck "V8" dicks what a turbo can do... just have to keep the bonnet closed!! Gary, so your an electronic tech?? It would be interesting to see how you do it. What sort of micro controller is it?? To do manual should be pretty easy. find out the solenoid wires, signal wires and go from there. (i think) Would paddle shift be easy?? -

Cactus, Your the one that used to have rb25 and old man with a HQ coupe with 1UZ yah?? How was the conversion?? I think i saw somewhere you used a CRS kit. I ask as i'm building a HZ tonner and am gonna probably drop in a full built rb26/30det in it. I'm still tossing what to do really, single cam or the twin setup. How does the rb pull the Quey?? obviously now, pretty good. which gearbox are you using?? jatco or RE?? Yah the RE403 box is stronger from the outset. Get one from a 300zx, put a stage 2 shift kit in it and it should be good enough for around 250 odd rwkw no probs. Yah RE401 bell housing bolts straight to it. I think it is larger in diameter and valve body, but still fits in the standard tunnel. How did you make the controller?? does it use simple electronics?? I think i may ned to do something similar with this new box. cheers -

Don't worry about being manual. Just try it before you say its out of the question. Yes it isn't the softest shift, but unless your giving it revs it doesn't shift that hard as oil pressure is comparison to rpm. Ie faster you go, harder it shifts. I hope you wouldn't put your son in a 300rwkw+ car and drive hard anyways. You can still drive normally and shifts are reasonable as long as you don't give it to it. Yah trust me, my R31 is gonna have a car seat in it too, thats why i'm down powering it. Still want a box that won't break, thats why i'm going the RE4R03A. -

Funny you should say that, i have a 3800rpm stally standing by.... though having a higher stally will only make things worse unless i have slicks. Which jatco 4 speed are you talking about?? the old school VL manual type or the RE401 late model skyline 4 speed?? I know of an RE401 taking about 1000hp with standard planetary sets, just uprated clutches and bands. They are esentially the same box as the auto in subaru(except with a transaxel)which rigoli has used to get into the 8's i think. BMS make a reverse pattern valve body for them. i think it has been covered in earlier posts. The 4spd i'm getting is the RE403, which is from the 300zx, Q45, cima and patrols. Rated to around 1500hp with upgrades. Having a full manual box is still awsome.. I've had 3 and love em. Best compromise of auto and manuals. -
How Much Boost To Run On A Stock N/a Rb30?
Dj laBBy replied to aubinator's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
A stock turbo(t3) will be fine. The smallest i'd go would be the rb25. I was thinking of that for a family car project. I had a t3/4 on stock engine for ages. Ran 10psi boost with a front mount intercooler. I ran 7 pound with the standard crossover pipe but had to retard the ignition only a couple of degrees to curb detonation. I think i even used standard 91 octane fuel. Is the rb30 gonna be carb still or using fuel injection?? I think a top mount intercooler will be ok as long as your not putting much more than standard boost in and you have a big enough scoop. Good luck with the conversion. My mate had a short wheeled with rb30 turbo. Was nuts.. -

Cheers, yah i love 3lt torque!! Though never been in an rb20/25 car, but have heard that it has torque from idle better than the others. 60' 1.788. Not the best launch. It would've been better if i could actually get on boost and better on the converter off the line, but i had to control it as i'd just fry the tyres to the 60' mark with the falken semi's. I really need some big bags with soft sidewalls and large profile to get proper grip. I'd probably get into the high 1.6's if i could and dip into the tens with that setup, too bad now though.. checkout http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...p?autocom=times #11. I was 5 at one stage. -

Hey guys, yah it is good to see guys out there who like auto's in their skylines.. I love em, although i have gone through a few. As we speak, i have a jatco 3spd, transbraked, manulised, blah blah, everything done.. With a 2800 stally and on semi's i managed 11.5@120mph with 271rwkw with a rb25/30 gt35r apexi powerfc, stock as a rock rb30. I ended up blowing my bottom end and decided to go all out. I have a ported rb26 head going on(just need cam caps if anyone has any) gonna drop a gt45r on, 1000cc injectors, E85 and so on on a forged bottom end. I had to sort some oil issues, (sump capicity, oil pump and head drain and oil cooler) so hopefully this time i will make in excess of 400rwkw. Though i am thinking of dropping the driveline in a holden tonner, just as it will be a weekender. My R31 will become a more of a family car, but using a Re4r03a tricked up box and a basic turbo setup, should last a while.. -
"adaptronic" Engine Management Systems ?
Dj laBBy replied to discopotato03's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Shit i heard around $1600 from some forum, i think boostcruising. I'm waiting on its release and testing till i put it on my motor. Just think no point in running a big motor with 1000cc inj with e85 on a batch fire system. Plus i hope it has features like water pump and fan control and hopefully boost and the like. I just want one thing to run the whole car!! If not might go to ViPec or haltech. -
Missing Rb26 Cam Caps, What Can I Replace Them With
Dj laBBy replied to Dj laBBy's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Na the part that holds the cams down.. -
Hey guys, I bought a "complete rb26 head" that didn't have the cam caps for it. I didn't realise it didn't as the cam covers were all on, so didn't worry. A week later, i pulled the covers off and noticed no cams caps!! I asked the bloke about it but he pretty much just fobbed me offand couldn't get a refund, so i'm left with a lump of expensive ally pretty much. I was wondering however, if you can use rb20 or 25 or even custom caps(if anyone makes them). I'm not too sure about all this. I guess i probably could, but it would need to be line bored. Is this correct?? Any sugestions?? Anyone have any spare caps?? Thanks guys

Added Am upgrading the head to GTR head, so head available Its a RB25 one, not entirely sure which one, though the front oil gallery has been modified for direct bolt on to an RB30 block. Its non VVT. The ports have also had a little tickle and polish. Stock cams and has coil packs also covers inc valley cover which says 'RB POWER' Looking for $700ono or $3000 inluding manifold and turbo. Thanks Rob

Hey guys. Am upgrading my whole engine, and so the turbo and manifold has to go. Its on a RB25/30, so 25 head, but has the same bolt pattern for an rb26. The manifold has a extreme turbo manifolds 6 into 1 collector, but i built the rest of it. Reason for upgrade is am going T4 style turbo, so the T3 flange won't do. The turbo is a GT3540r aka GT35r with a .83 ex housing which has been ceramic coated. The compressor cover has been polished. The turbo is tops and is extremly streetable!! The wastegate is a Innovative Turbo Systems, 40mm It is awsome. holds boost well and cost a fair bit at the time. I managed 271rwkw through a high stalled auto with 18psi boost. I want $2500 for the lot. Yes it includes the dump pipe too as well as the screamer pipe thats attached to the wastegate. Pics are attached. I will be removing it from the car tomorrow. Please PM me or call/sms 0412957329 Caringbah area

Guys, selling my RB25 power fc due to limitations. I think its a series 1, have no real idea though, but it works with the setup i have. Will get a serial number tomorrow hopefully. It is tuned for 270rwkw(through stalled auto) with 550cc sard injectors and Q45afm. The computer has recently been checked just for peace of mind. Looking to sell the lot for $1900 or Power FC $1300 550cc sards(side feed) $600 Q45 AFM $150 Its all working and in the car, but upgrading with a whole heap of new mods. Please PM me or call 0412957329 In sydney, but willing to post. Don't really mind if it doesn't go quickly, as the new build will be taking 6 months or so(new engine)

My first thing i thought of was exhaust, as if you get a bit of air entering the ex, it can combine and you can get that pop from the unburnt fuel, could explain the whistle too as coz its on load it could be coming out from the manifold or somewhere. Oooh check that you have your O2 sensor in there, sounds silly, but i forgot to put mine in one time and the car ran like a bitch until wot and i had a serious noise/wistle. I just listened to the vid. Damn that is weird. Besides the sounds of tappets clacking away, it sounded like a turbo type sound, like proportional with the turbo, not engine revs(or am i mistaken) Thats where i'd check, turbo area...

Mate this is the start of mine, very similar to yours. I've made others in the past but not a full manifold, just modified the standard plenum, but i think it should go ok.
