There has been issues with rb20det's in the past breaking oil pumps. I sold my old RB20DET oil pump to a dude that had broke his oil pump. So it definitely does happen, all depends on how the car is driven and the rev's. I wish I had done this with my rb30det. ProEngines, Have you came across any issues with the rb30's and harmonics breaking oil pumps at certian rpms?

I'll check mine out today.

MattSR, I don't believe no lag, every thing has lag. There's only one solution for turbo and no lag. Displacement.
-
That would suck.
-
As a comparison.. The RB30 block on top, RB20 block on the bottom. The Rb26 block I've looked at had the same lack of ribbing as the rb20.
-
I agree. Drop RB30DETs in them with a nice set of 264cams, gt3540 .82, 3.5" exhaust and have 20-22psi by ~3500rpm, maybe a shade over.. or.. If you really want it to rev its nuts off and make 400rwkw... RB30DET, forged rods/pistons, ati balancer, 272 cams, gt3540 1.06, 4" exhaust and dial in hrmm maybe 26psi, that should be in by a 4000rpm or a shade over and rev nicely to 7.5-8k. Nice to dream.

The fuel does play a big part but I do think its its simply a combination of things. It needs some good dyno time to sort them out. Fuel, Cam timing, afr's, ign. timing and boost. Mafia... Do a map trace and take note of what load points are used, then let us know what ignition timing is being run through out the rev range at WOT. -
Thats always the case but it doesn't mean I'm going to run a GT42 as it may do 300rwkw on 10psi vs the GT30 running 20psi. I know which will accelerate faster and be much nicer to drive due to a higher average power. Which does raise another issue. Whats the static comp? This will influence the amount of boost he is able to run.
-
No need. Simply push more boost in to it. RB25 turbo is only going to make it come on smoother and have less mid range. Remember it is a little 1.6ltr, where it spools at the moment looks to be quite a nice streetable package that simply needs more boost.

I agree it is the fuel. When mine was dead stock it used to ping slightly on 95RON BP. The BP's started getting 98 Ultimate and I was able to dial in 17degree's and up the boost to 12.5psi without ping. -

I don't believe the exhaust manifold poses a problem up until ~300rwkw where it literally hits a brick wall and will not allow any more power to be made. There's 2 RB's running around Adelaide with the stock log, both appear to hit a brick wall ~300rwkw. One of the turbo's is a GT3540 .82 internal gate running ~18-19psi making slightly over 300rwkw on a rb30det, the other is a GT3040 running an internal gate making ~300rwkw on a rb25det. Both are running cams, running on the same dyno that is known not to be conservative. BUT, there is gains to be had by using a nice manifold. More ignition timing due to less uneven cylinder reversion. One person I know of picked up 20rwkw (306 - 326rwkw) by changing the exhaust manifold @ the same boost. -
The blower flows less than the turbo as a result it will pose an inlet restriction to the turbo. So no, its not more efficient.

I assumed it was the 6blade GT wheel, GCG use the 6 blade GT wheel. -
The 2510 will hardly spool earlier than the 2530. Keep the 2530, Speak to Chris32 about his 2510, thats making 190rwkw but early in the rpm ~6000rpm or something due to the lack of exhaust flow, it noses over pretty hard. I don't think the 2510 is really that good on the rb20. Stick with the 2530, wait until the rb20 pops and throw a set of rb25/26 rods and crank through it then crank up the boost.

Depending on the dyno the rb20t turbo's do make ~170rwkw with around 14psi, exhaust, fmic and tuned ecu on a RB20DET. I've ran a rb20det turbo on my rb30det that runs the better flowing rb25 head, that requires only 9psi with the same above mods to make 176rwkw. So... If the head isn't breathing well in a forced induction application then your going to have to push more boost in to it to bring the airflow up. That turbo appears to be spooling well. On the RB20DET I used to see ~11psi by a shade over 3000rpm and 1bar by ~3500rpm under normal driving conditions. Load it up in 4th and 1bar would be seen at approx 2800rpm. I never saw boost at those rpms on the road as I would always drop it back a gear. You haven't actually said how much yours is making?!?

The GCG Highflow is basically the same. Only difference is the worked stock comp cover. -
I run NGK 6 coppers and leave them in for ~30,000km's. The plugs that come out at 30,000km's work just as well as the new plugs. $16.80 for 6 from motor traders, you can't go wrong. I've had problems with copper plugs that have done 50,000km's. No major problems, starting became difficult.

Drop the comp ratio... Thats really your only option. You won't notice a drop of .5. Wind a little more boost in and see how it goes. -
HKS3037ProS .87 Internal gate - Steve's old R33 made ~320rwkw at 20 something psi with thicker head gasket on his rb25, mild cams, plenum, exhaust manifold, pfc, pfc ebc. Or if you want need a little more compressor flow grab a garrett GT3040R and bolt on the HKS Pro internal gate .87 turbine housing on to that.
-
RB30 rod and piston. The RB30 rod shouldn't need to be as strong as the piston doesn't receive as much side load due to its longer length.
-
Its not the compressor locking up? Or more of an electrical simply nothing type of cut?

What ignition timing are you running at wot? (peak torque, mid and higher rpm values) Cam timing. Play with the afr's and see where its happy. Thats where I would be looking assuming compression is good. -

James how do you know this... lol Wipe your chin. Mafia, so you don't know the gt30 specs? There's 3 basically... GT3071R, GT3076R, GT3040R. You are right.. there was only really 1 person that made 270rwkw with the same setup, there was that one bloke with the horsepowerinabox turbo that made 260rwkw with 20psi on a rb25 turbine housing. Then there's Bass Junky that made 250rwkw with 14psi and 260pon cams, and now there you with roughly the same power also, well considering your running crap 95ron. hrmmm.. Makes me wonder if these ppls who have cracked 260-270rwkw's have either ran an aftermarket exh. manifolds or possibly even dropped the static comp ratio so they can push some decent boost in to it. Bass Junky's wouldn't take any more than 14psi.. ping. -
If you want to make decent power (200+rwkw) with s/c you either 1. spend big $$ on a real super charger 2. twin charge (as mcstocky has/is) 3. don't do it at all and drop a 2.5/3ltr in it.

Next tank I will fill up with 95RON and see how much ign. I need to pull out. Going from BP98 to BP ULP 91 I had to pull out 7 degree's in 4th to stop ping. Mafia, you are running the GT3076R .6comp cover? or?
