Don't use. The VG30DET BB Turbo is nothing more than a RB20DET turbo with larger turbine and compressor covers. The compressor wheel is exactly the same as the rb20det item. Your much better off with a RB25 turbo, that at least is a compressor upgrade.

Internal Gate Boost Control Problems
Cubes replied to SimonR32's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I'd say this is more than likely part cause of your problem. Prior it was fine at 1bar with the old dump, now its having issues with creep to 20psi. FMIC and pod won't cause what you are experiencing. Those cheap china hks copy's are only 2.5" and they don't flare when the wastegate joins in either. No doubt better than stock but not better than a open mouth 3". Enjoy the 20psi, get it tuned to suit. -
While its there give it a carbon clean. I think thats what its called. A mate of mine during school was a mechanic, I often saw him attaching a can of something via a hose in front of the t/b, while the motor was running he would squirt the can, the car would run like crap but it apparently removed all the sludge and junk in the plenum/tb/valves.

It really is a hard decision. When purchasing my head I found a 26 head and inlet manifold for 2.5k. The 25 head was $750 + $1100 for rebuilding and port/polishing. I decided the 25 head rebuilt was a better option for reliability. I didn't want to try my luck with a second hand head even though it would have no doubt been fine. I wonder which would flow better, a 25 head that has been ported polished, the suitable valve jobs, inlet valve deshroud, port match and 260duration exh. cam or a stock 26 head. The reason for a 260 duration exhaust cam... From flow tests i've seen its the exhaust side of the rb that has issues. Not the inlet. I could be wrong. Its only my observation.

I've done a few measurements. Just in front of the throttle body the plenum has 20mm with the motor lowered 13mm. If you drop to your knees on the drivers side of the engine bay you will see where the cross over pipe is higher than the throttle body and plenum, it almost v's up a little, I had a good look at the cross over pipe, its not touching the under bonnet lining but must be damn close as it too sits 20mm higher than the plenum section where the strut brace would pass over. The strut brace will no way fit over the throttle body and cross over pipe. I suspect one of those flat tubular style strut braces will fit providing it passes in front of the throttle body/cross over pipe. All else fails you could always grab a r33 rb25 or rb26 stuffed bottom end (piston oil squirters a must for cast pistons that see track work), Rebuild that with cast pistons and throw a r32 rb25de head on it. That would look 100% stock.

I'll take a few measurements Troy.

Put aside a minimum of 5days to get everything out and back in again. I'm a bit of a fuddy duddy and bugger arse around abit though. When I had everything out I also took pictures of everything, alternator, powersteer pumps, a/c. Always comes in handy when something needs replacing and you need a part number or need to know what type it is.

Thats also my thinking. Its not so much they flow better its the better factory cams + the added bonus of the solid followers = higher ramp rate. higher lift for a given duration. Providing you can pick up a rb26 head and manifolds for a reasonable price.

A concern if its a daily driver. How will cams negatively affect fuel economy. -
yes.

I got a heap of money bags from the bank and a marker. Wrote one every bag what was what. Don't underestimate the nightmare of trying to match up bolts if you don't do this.

I've found it is essential. I've also learnt the hard way not to fiddle with the idle rpm afterwards as it takes so long to achieve a decent idle again. Then all of a sudden you will hit the a/c button and idle will start bouncing again. Init. the PFC, load what ever maps etc you need in with the logit then let it idle. Then don't touch it.

The RB25 plenum setup even with the engine lowered won't have the usual strut brace fitting up without fouling. RB26 obviously fits. You could always fit up a greedy style plenum to the 25. But that adds to the cost if you are only after upwards of 300rwkw.

dude.. your caps lock is stuck on.

No problems Andrew. I was mistaken when I said SVCD.. They are actually in divx format roughly the size of a svcd video. The quality is ok. I'll throw the three on one dvd for you and sky30. No need to fix me up, I remember quite some time ago you gave me a cd with something on it.. Can't remember what it was now, something to do with the cruises we had back then. lol. I'll be at the dyno day.

lmao What u doing in here again Roy... No we haven't, there is one that positions the brace towards the front of the t/b, from what I remember, bl4ck32 said the issue with his strut brace is it fouls the cross over pipe's rubber hose that connects to the t/b.

Damn that labour. I should think my self lucky I have facilities to do all my own work. Remove/install motors etc. -
Good thread, I recently had my a/c regassed as the condensor was removed. Initially the thing would lock up and almost stall the car. Brought it back, lots of water in it, they regassed it now it works on and off and is no where near as icy cold it used to be. Unsure exactly what they have done or haven't done.

They are generally located some where in the front bumper. Mine does the same as yours, in peak hour traffic on a 40degree day I've seen temps as high as 65degree's. My amb temp sensor is fairly spot on within .5-1degree, according to those digital time and temp readout things located around Adelaide.

I bought some hose from pirtek recently. Its suprisingly flexy without crimping. The prior stuff I bought from an auto trans place, that was really stiff and kinked easily. In the 32's I 'think' the straight pipe will suffice. Won't know until I replace it.

The only issue I've found with organic clutches is they tend to heat up from clutch riding launches launches. So... Don't ride it when launching. I used to get off the line super quick, click second to have it slipping due to overheating the clutch on the launch. Not that you should be riding a ceramic clutch. At the moment I find I don't have to ride the clutch due to the 3ltr. -
The little boy is great, ~7months old now. Such a funny little boy.

I think this vid is a bad idea if it shows the import owners up as 'hoons'.

I may be spectating also. Hopefully not, I've still got a few things + a tune to do. How are you keeping? Its been a while.
