NinetySix, There's no doubt the xr6 has awesome potential. And bang for buck when it comes to mods. Not including the initial purchase price. No arguments there. To get a GTST up around the 260-280rwkw mark you are looking at 1k for an ecu + 500 for tuning, 800 for injectors, 2k for a turbo, exhaust(bugger all) and fmic (bugger all). Probably all up looking at 4.5k. They are both awesome cars, one suits one person slightly better than the other. For example myself.. Full time uni student.. Be buggered I could afford a XR6T. Little R32 with a nice turbo bolted on the side will do me.

Yep... In second he was trying his best not to wheel spin.. I'm a member of overclockers and also saw the post. -

When he clicked third it sure sounds floored. Why would you post vids of your car accelerating at half throttle through the gears.. Sure he didn't rev it all the way out. Still received wot in third. -
Even with forged pistons I get a max knock of 10 on the initial crank, idling in 4degree temps when you can hear the pistons slapping the knock sits on 1. For mine to see the tell tale sight of a puff of fuel from the rear knock levels are around 100. I never have the odd unusual spike, well I did, only when the injectors were clagged and dirty.

My fan turns on without the aircon on, from memory its around 93degree's or something. When the cooling system is working correctly even in 40degree heat I never had the overheat fan turn on, thats including with the a/c on. Slightly dodgy clutch fan or dirty rad will see the overheat fan turning on, sometimes even without the a/c on. I'm going to wire up the overheat fan via a relay to turn on with the a/c. I noticed a slightly cooler a/c when it is on.

Does the RB20DET's compressor elbow that connects to the IC piping bolt up to the R33 RB25DET turbo? I know the R34 Compressor covers outlet is slightly larger than the RB20DET's. As a result you have to use the R34's elbow. Has any one taken to time to measure the Comp wheel of an rb25 turbo? I have a few approx measurements.. R34 RB25 Turbo. Inducer - 49mm Exducer - 66mm Approx Trim - 55 VG30DET Turbo Inducer - 46mm Exducer - 63mm Approx Trim - 54 The R34 RB25 and VG30 turbo's share the same slightly larger turbine housing. Apparently it measures some where around the .7 a/r where as the rb20/25 is around the .6 a/r. I was told the sizes by a turbo shop. When I pull my rb20det turbo off I will measure its wheels and also compare.

I find it interestering the DET harmonic balancers have been reported to have harmonic issues (break oil pumps) up around 7500rpm. The VLT blokes on the other hand with their SOHC harmonic balancers tend to have issues up around 6500rpm. If you really want to rev it, run an aftermarket harmonic balancer, ATI I've heard works. Obviously i'm not talking from experience. So nothing is concrete.

Google is your friend.. Its all pressure.

HEY!!! I left out the '99 R34 GTT. 1410kg/206fwkw = 6.84kg's per kw.
-
Ahh yes forgot about the earlier model R32's with less of a lard arse.
-
Was the dyno speed calibrated to suit the cars 'real' speed? Mine used to cut at around 185-190 on the speedo.

I am using the std RB30 sump. The rb20/25 sumps require a little mod in order for the crank not to hit the fins when it swings past. I will eventually pull the motor out and either get my std sump modified to prevent surge etc or fit up an aftermarket one. It really depends on what I can get the std. one modified for at the time.

Maxwolf, 10kw if your lucky. On the dyno I run on the rb20dets usually make 170rwkw on 14psi with a tuned ecu. 160kw with 12psi.
-
Hope the calcs are right.. lol.
-
Damn... I want a GTS4 to drop this RB30 in.

Is the bov still hooked up to the blocked off bov return pipe? I know its a silly question but you never know.

R32gts-t White Smoke Diagnosis - Need Help
Cubes replied to MM2death's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hi Chris, Where abouts did you grab your rubber hose from? I wasn't able to find any in that size suited for oil use. Only the usual heater hose stuff. -
I ran 15 and 16 towards the end of the rb20det. Some have had them go at 11psi.. It really comes down to luck of the draw and tuning. EGT is the killer. i.e track work. Run the car slightly richer and dial in more ignition timing, this lowers egt and helps the turbo hold together.

I'd believe it... smoke up 100-160.. Because he still runs 225's. The torque will turn the wheels, the problem is once it hooks up it won't necessarily accelerate as quick as it should considering the power it makes, purely due to the weight of the car. -
Big lard arsed post in an attempt to conclude this thread. Since when do the XR6T's weigh 1690kg's.. Their curb weight is in fact ~3900lbs, thats 1769kg's. XR6T 1769kg/240fwkw = 7.37kg's per kw. R32 GTR 1480kg/230fwkw = 6.43kg's per kw R32 GTST 1320kg/160fwkw = 8.25kg's per kw R33 GTR 1530kg/230fwkw = 6.65kg's per kw R33 GTST 1390kg/187fwkw = 7.43kg's per kw R34 GTR 1540kg/230fwkw = 6.69kg's per kw The little old RB26 actually makes 230fwkw, not the 206kw stated to adhear to the gentlemans agreement. As you can see it is all very close, the xr6t does have a slight advantage over the stock R33 GTST. The R32 GTST, well its long behind lol. What will determine how well the xr6t goes against the r33 gtst is the how well sorted the gearing is, and how well power holds up past peak power. If it simply drops off hard this is not good for the xr6t. A good example of torque vs well sorted gearing is the good ol EL falcon vs the VS commodore, the VS kills it the EL and feels as if it has much more torque when in fact it doesn't. Obviously the GTR's have a power to weight and traction advantage over the XR6T. Now lets look at some modified rwkw figures. XR6T 1769kg/327rwkw = 5.4kg's per rwkw R33 GTR 1530kg/282rwkw = 5.4kg's per rwkw R33 GTST 1390kg/257rwkw = 5.4kg's per rwkw. A very mildly modified R33 GTST, fmic, exhaust, ecu and 11pounds of boost will see ~200rwkw. Thats a 6.95kg's per rwkw. An xr6t requires 252rwkw for the same power to weight. The XR6T does have more potential to make power than the r33 gtst but not necessarily have the potential to run quicker 1/4 times. I'm sure you get what I am getting at, there's more to accelerating quick than outright brute power and torque.

Should I Sell My Skyline And Buy A Rotar?
Cubes replied to GOR33's topic in General Automotive Discussion
See, I told you so.. The old TE Cortinas weighed in at ~1200kg's. Kick shiet all over the rotor with a nice little turbs bolted on the side. http://autospeed.drive.com.au/cms/A_2624/article.html -
Nice. Scan the dyno sheet.
-
He does have a GTR so traction wouldn't be as much of a problem.. It really depends on your final power goals. The GT35R .6 turbine and wheel combo flows roughly the same as a GT30 .82. Wheel size etc plays a big factor in back pressure.
-
You haven't told us a list of mods... PFC?? Higher boost etc??
