jazza08 I wanted to see what it could do. The tune only set me back $100. Inissane, Have another read of my post. The RB20DET turbo has reached its limits, the back pressure in the exhaust housing is blowing the wastegate flap open, if I were to fit an RB25 actuator I might only get 6psi. So to answer your question.. The RB20DET actuator on a Rb20DET or RB25DET will be fine for holding 11-12psi, obviously the final boost level depends on how well your exhaust flows. Just as a note the RB20DET turbo with the wastegate wired fully open still makes 6psi from 4000rpm. Obviously there is a lot of back pressure in that little housing.

Whats it going to set you back? Did you consider the R32 RB25DE long motor with a thicker headgasket? bolt on all the rb20det bits (manifolds, ecu, afm's, turbo, injectors the whole lot) and drive away with a 2.5ltr turbo.
-
What did you pick up the 3037ProS for? Be sure to keep us updated with dyno/boost & RPM figures. I will be going the 3037ProS on the rb30det.

Ronin, Looks like your stock injectors max out and go lean roughly where mine does. Mine begins going lean over 175-176rwkw @ 9psi on the stock rb20det turbo, yours is around 180rwkw. GTST, the base boost level with the rb20det actuator depends on the exhaust and how much air the engine is consuming. With the RB20DET & its actuator the most boost I could hold was 12.5psi on the stock actuator. This was to a maximum of 7500rpm, I hadn't taken it over that. On the RB30DET the stock rb20det turbo actually has a bit of a problem supplying anything over 9psi. As it comes on boost it spikes up to 12psi then quickly tapers off by 4400rpm where it makes its peak power of 175-176rwkw, by 4950rpm boost is starting to nudge 8psi. My dump pipe is pretty bodgy at the moment as I bodged it when I dropped the rb30det in, basically I needed an extra 30-40mm height so I cut the straight part of the dump/front pipe and welded in a small extension that was slightly larger than the 3" pipe, So air flows down the pipe and causes a bit of turbulance when it hits the lip of the pipe. Hope that makes sense. I think my issue is more so the stock rb20det turbo cannot supply any more air and is running deep in to choke. Chopping the air rather than pushing it.

What I want to know is what is the difference between the ECON A/C mode and the A/C mode. Obviously Economy, doesn't appear to do shiet.

I think Grepin ditched the 2835Pros in favour of something a little larger? If not how did you overcome the boost drop issue?

I can't remember exactly the km's from the CBD but if your car is defected for non-emmission reasons then you can get the defect cleared at your local police station. Obviously BOV's, ECU's will be straight to regency.

Jazz80, If the dyno figure is not reading higher than the average then you have reaced the peak power/airflow that the turbo can provide in the TOP END, which is a pretty damn good effort from the tuner and possibly the freak ecu you have there. However, Peak power isn't everything, it only dictates a certian amount of power at one rpm point. How often do you sit the car on that RPM point? .2 of a sec. ? The PowerFC will give you more mid range and area under the curve, resulting in a car that accelerates quicker even though the peak power is the same.

bigcarl, RB20DET or RB25DET?

Ash, Adj. Cam Gears? Little more overlap? I know the RB30DET with the N/A cams sounds ever ever so slightly cammy. Well compared to the rb20det.

I've since decided to get my self a HKS3037ProS from japland. It will make the power I want and give me the look I want. If it wasn't for the police here in SA I would most definitely go for an external gate etc etc.. After having the hood popped the other night It's really made me thing I should step back and go the 3037 with its 45mm internal gate. The ARB exhaust housing works and makes the power but obviously isn't optimal. Any 1 want to buy it? Its got the flange to bolt on a external gate so it will allow you to bolt a GT35R up to the stock exhaust manifold.
-
To determine if the manifold made off boost a little better you really need to have the same turbo before and after. Reason being is I tried a larger turbo on my rb20det which both made the exhaust note angrier and off boost torque was noticably up. I put it down to the exhaust housing flowing just that bit easier.

Nothing quite like the sound of extractors or a tubular exhaust manifold. R31 Power, Its a pitty you weren't able to get a before after run. What it looks like and the way it performs may be totally different. Did the turbo and manifold go on as one? Reason being is I'm curious if it made any difference to off boost torque.

$77 for second hand jobs.. Shiet.. Thats $462 for a complete set. Spend another hundred or so and you can have a set of Spitfire coils imported from Nengun or Greenline.
-
No.. What happens when the wastegate is shut?? It acts as if the flange is blocked off. These manifolds can be picked up as low as $450 to $900. I'm not 100% sure if it is exactly the stock mounting position. It doesn't look so but very close.

It 'should' unlock a little more top end and average power. Spool time etc really is a hard one. Many people do not notice a difference in spool. A friend of mine was making 306rwkw with a stock exh. manifold and a GT35R turbo. He switch to a aftermarket manifold (unsure if it was tuned length) slaped on a genuine GT35R exhaust a/r and didn't notice any difference in spool or boost build time. BUT there was an increase in total outright power, It picked up 20rwkw by simply going a good exhaust manifold and properly designed (not machined) exhaust housing. So its really hard to say exactly what created the extra 20rwkw. Was it the exhaust housing or the exhaust manifold. Probably a little of both. I'm keeping the stock exhaust manifold for up to 300rwkw. However it will be power ported. I really don't see the need in changing the stock exh. manifold for the power I want. Especially with the defects over here in SA. Shortest possible route to the turbo. I would go the HKS manifold if I were required to. Rig up a nice exhaust shield or possibly modify the stock one and it would be hidden and stock looking.

Its a crap setup. You can see for your self, look the size of the pipe where they merge. Port 3 will have higher reversion than the rest. All of which is not good for good reliable power. You get what you pay for. A tuned length exh. manifold is theoretically the best option as you get equal reversion across all cylinders. HKS do a good cast manifold for the RB, obviously a bigger turbo and the manifold has provision for an external gate BUT it does show the difference in design where the exhaust runners meet. The short the runners the better response you are supposed to get with regards to spool. This would suggest to me that a tuned length manifold may actually increase spool time slightly. It also depends on pipe id as this affects the gas velocity. Thats my view by simply looking at its design. It really needs to be flowed to see how well it works.

wow.. they slapped a bit of a markup on the timing belt. They are usually around the 90-100 mark direct from nissan.

I also like the standards a little better.. Not the 89 model conventional types but the projector style without the ring around the outside. With the ring around the projector it makes the head lights stand out a little too much. Looks kind of strange. While we are on the topic of headlights does any one know of a method or some one who can recondition the silver lense? One of mine has started flaking a little.

My 30% more clamping full face organic extreem used to do it in peak hour traffic and it was a bran spankin new clutch. Just don't ride it, clutches are not designed to be ridden so much. Now the 9puk ALWAYS shudders and if ridden will grab and chirp the wheels.
-
I noticed a definite difference with the later model projector's. They do need to be angled up slightly as the Coco pops Killer said so his self. I think the lenses go clear when they are stuffed.. I had one do it on my old set of head lights. It also didn't put out as much light. Unsure really.

Can any one recommend a decent aftermarket alternative to the Nissan sender?

Yer its definitely a chuck to experience. Never in all my chucking have I experienced something so violent.. lol
