  1. Its performance versus endurance. I think Skylines, Supras, NSXs, RX-7s ect are all made to both have a fair amount of kick without compromising too much on reliability. Think about it, how many Ferraris and Lamborghinis lasting +100,000kms? They aren't designed to, they are designed to go hard and not much else. For a good time not a long time. Now hands up all with Skylines that have gone past the 100,000km mark. Also, the last GT-R that was made was (according to Redbook, not 100% sure if its true) was 2000. To compare it to the latest Fords, Holdens and BMWs seems a little unfair. A 2000 VT Series 2 SS Commodore put out 220kWs standard. Compare that to the Skyline's "208kWs" and it brings it into prospective a little. I have to agree though, there seems to be a trend lately that all car manufacturers seem to be steering away from turbo charged performance vehicles, not just Japanese ones. Hopefully the new GT-R will change that.
  2. Off the top of my head no idea. I thought the only RB series engine that didn't have RB stamped into the timing belt cover was the RB30, well I don't remember there being one...
  3. Good to hear
  4. Couldn't agree more with this, a crawl before you walk approach. In my opinion if you have to work for a car to earn it, you are alot less likely to kill yourself and others. And I'm not just talking about the skill advantage, but in most people things like that change your thought processes a little Power to weight ratio is a little tricky. Lets take an R31 Skyline Wagon. Produces 114kWs and weighs 1,360kgs, its fairly heavy and its not a whole bunch of power. But there was enough there to get myself in grief and its strange that I had no accidents in it. As stated before, you should have to earn a licence to drive a certain power to weight ratio. But here is an interesting thought, cars are constantly made better. They have better brakes, air bags, traction control, you name it. Yet how often have you seen a speed limit on a road go up? Wouldn't the road toll be lower now than when it was constructed? Why aren't roads built to a quality where cars should be able to safely do over 120km/h? Where the hell does our money go when we pay for rego/stamp duty/taxes on fuel/GST? The price of a heavy administration I suppose
  5. Does anyone know when you can or can't use fog lights? I haven't used them yet in fear that some copper is going to tear me a new one because of some rule that I have no idea about. But then again, they don't seem to do much at night anyways... Thanks, Cass
  6. Hey all, I'm trying to figure out what speakers to get for my Skyline, mainly because there where no speakers in the front when I bought it. I've been looking mainly at 6.5" from Jaycar, which come in Composite 60W RMS and Coaxial 75W RMS. In that department, I'm leaning towards the Coaxials, because not only are they cheaper but I won't have to stuff around trying to place the external tweeter. The only experience with car speakers is installing some 6"x9" Aldi specials (yep, to tight for eBay :laughing-smiley-014: ) in the front doors of a R31 wagon, which looked ugly but served the purpose as far as I was concerned. Here is pretty much what I want, but please feel free to tell me I'm wrong, I know I know nothing Before I start I want to ask if the deadening is easy to install? Do I need any special tools? Is it even worth me trying to do it myself when I really don't have a clue? lol Car: R33 GTS-t Series 2 Max price: $500, although I would like to keep it under $400 if possible Size: 6.5" - Mainly because I've got the idea that 6.5"s will be the easiest to install. Might go to 6" if people here can tell me they have had good experiences Type of Music: Rock, Metal, Industrial ect. If genres aren't enough, Cold Chisel, Sytem of a Down, Marilyn Manson, Disturbed and the like, basically yelling/screaming and guitars . Mate suggested "mid-ranges" for my music tastes. Brand: I care not for brand names (except when it comes to Nissan or Subaru ) except when it comes to Xplod... I'm steering clear of that, based purely on word of mouth... Head unit will be my good ol' Pioneer DEH-P4650MP. Got it for my birthday in 2003 and its followed me ever since, I'll upgrade when it breaks. Cables shouldn't be a problem if I'm suggested to use bigger than stock. I work in a switchboard factory with a massive stockpile of cable, ranging from 1.5sqr mm (16 AWG) to about 150sqr mm (6/0 AWG, big farka). It won't be pretty as the clear insulated cable you get at JB-HiFi, I don't really care for that either If it an important factor, I don't want to put subs in the boot. That little space is reserved for stuff... like my swag... and not bodies I want to do the installation myself. When I got my Pioneer Unit, part of gift was installation at Strathfield. When I went to pull the unit out of my car I was disgusted at the quality of the job. Good ol' twitch and tape... damn miricle there was never a short between the unused cables for rear speakers... Any input in here would be a great help.
  7. Was a white R33 Series 2 GTS-t (I think...) with plates GTS-33S on Mona Vale Rd at around 2pm
  8. I just bought this stuff all at Autobarn, mainly because I'm lazy. Its a 2 min walk from where I work! Wiring Harness (AP7550) - $19.99 Diversity Adaptor (AP348A) - $12.99 ***NOTE*** There is a AP348B, looks similar and costs the same, but not the same part. I made this mistake Facia Kit (FP997417) - $37.99 Not 100% sure if the Facia Kit will work (it should, previous posts said 1995 and older Nissan parts would do... right?), will find out and post it up EDIT - Decided to post up all the prices for all to see, and laugh at how ripped off I may have been
  9. Personally, I'd stay away from eBay when it comes to car security. I suggest getting someone to install it and hand you a receipt. Might have to pay more, but if your insurance company decides to dispute the quality of your alarm, you can slap that receipt right across their face. End of dispute (hopefully) Not sure of any companies in Adelaide... Try asking around in the South Australia part of the forums
  10. In my opinion people who would do this are kidding themselves. The hoon is the driver, not the car, and I see plently of Camry's, Magnas and Excels doing stupid shit. On the up side, you might get a cheap car out of it though, I won't disagree
  11. My bad, I thought all Libertys had the EJ22. I'm pretty sure the EJ20 was better as far as power was concerned (don't quote me, but I think something to do with resonance). As for the GTiR, not a big fan... To me it just seems like a project by Nissan to make something to compete with a WRX, which failed a little. Just my opinion though hehe
  12. Its not my money so here are my suggestions! Early 90s Supra Early 90s Liberty RS (Nice 2.2L Boxer Noise , ugly as sin ) Mid 90s Impreza WRX Mid 90s 200SX (Might be a little high on the price side, as well as not being much to look at ) Late 80s RX-7 Of this list I'd go the Supra or Liberty. What I'd actually do is save up a little more cash and get something better By the way, to get this list I used Red Book. It gives national averages for pretty much any car out there. Quite handy if you don't know what you want EDIT If 88silhouette's Skyline Wagon is anything like my old one, it will chirp second. But it had nothing to do with power, it was a death trap driven by a complete idiot. But those old RB30s will out last cockroaches in my opinion. Also... Defect for blue lights on the front of the car?
  13. Saw a Black R33 today parked at North Sydney TAFE. Has Nismo stickers here and there, as well as a Series 2 looking wing If you took a walk around to the back of the car park (near the spray painter area) you would have seen my Skyline

  15. Not sure what basket you would go in. Those who got their Ps before the rule was introduced can get away with it (I'm no lawyer, but thats how I take the rules ) I'm not sure about people transfering licences from different states or people from different countries applying for a licence. My guess is that you should get the licence and if it says anything about performance vehicles, thats what you will have to go with. After searching the RTA website for about 45 mins (which I must say is absolutly shit for finding the info you want) I found the list of high performance, naturally aspirated cars that provisional drivers can't drive http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/licensing/downlo...ered_6_list.pdf The only Nissans that fall under that category are 350Zs, apparently the good old RB25DE isn't good enough... The person that came up with these rules thought long and hard about it... no V35s and no RX-8s.
  16. If they drive VLs (which I assume they don't) you could say "your Commo is running a Nismo" . More seriously, I find the best way to rebut someone is to go along with what they say. Drive to work with a bag of rice and when you get there, place said bag on your bonnet. If anyone asks why there is a bag of rice on your car say "it might get hungry" Its amusing how this is almost the opposite of what happens to me. A guy at work (who owns a VR or VS Commo 5.0L V8) thinks that my car will beat his, and I'm still sure that his car will beat mine. To make things even more confusing he has this line "forced induction is no replacement for displacement" in which I reply "so according to Bathurst, 2.6L is greater that 5.7L?" But the real argument starts when the rotary supporter at work joins in. "if its not a rotor its not a motor" and the like. My reply is usually "but that engine has so little low down torque, if I pushed the front of your car it wouldn't go anywhere" To tell the truth I was tossing up between my current car and a VX Commodore SS, and the biggest factor in my decision for the Skyline was for my blind belief that Skylines last forever and a day if you take care of them every now and then. That and the overall look of the car. What other car that is reasonablly affordable has such iconic tail lights as the Skyline? When it comes down to it, if we all drove the same car, life would be a little more dull.
  17. Saw a blue R32 in Gilandra this afternoon. I was suprised, I thought imports where ran out of small country towns :laughing-smiley-014:
  18. Unfortunately not. My uncle gave it to me as he is a mechanic and used to own a VL. He asked me to hand it back when I sold the R31. I figure since its his it would be wise to give it back...
  19. Workshop manual or just the driver's one? Can't help on the driver's one as I sold my R31 a few months back, but the Workshop Manual one I still have, not in pfd, in book format. I wont scan the entire book for you, it has about a billion of them, but I will try and help you out *EDIT* Clarifying that its not pdf lol
  20. Usually I only spot them while I'm being driven by one of my mates and I'll point and interupt the conversation with a... "OH MY GOD a R32 GT-R" or "OOOO Stagea!" or "R31 Skyline Series 3 Sillouette!! :laughing-smiley-014: " (if I can, I get very particular, seems to annoy more ) They asked if I'd stop doing that if I bought myself a skyline. I bought myself a skyline. I haven't stopped doing it... meh
  21. The most economical trip I've ever done was in a R31 Wagon, roughly 480kms to 40L, driving from Sydney to a great little place called Gilgandra . Not fantastic, but considering the age and milage of the car I thought it was OK. Around town it would burn around 30L of fuel for a week of roughly 150kms. Disgusting, but used to drive a little like a tool... and maybe not just a little. Oddly enough, got the same economy out of a Subaru Liberty (2.2L, flat 4 if your lazy ). It seems I burn that amount of fuel no matter what . My R33 though... well I've had it for just over a week so I don't know for sure what the fuel economy is going to be like. I fueled up last monday, have traveled a little over 210kms and the fuel guage says a little under half, and my driving style has been a mixed bag of cruising to and from work, and trying to keep up with my mate from work's RX-7 on Barrenjoey Road (I apologise for anyone that heard a rotary with a screamer pipe on Thursday night, apparently my definition of "cruising" is different from his not that I didn't have fun though .) And this weekend I'm traveling to this "Gilgandra" place again, so I hope that the economy is at least good enough to get me there :laughing-smiley-014: As a side note, what size tank does a R33 GTS-t Series 2 (if I need to be so particular ) have? I'm guessing around 60L, but I'm not too sure. EDIT - Forgot to add stuff
  22. IMO the only thing that the WRX over the Skyline (and its even better in the Liberties ) is the nice burblily engine note of the boxer. I make the following comments on the assumption that GT-Rs and GTS-ts are the same size, or at least similar. That guy also states that the R33 is hard to park. Compaired to what? A WRX? Might have something to do with the smaller car :laughing-smiley-014: . Try parking a Mazda Bravo in the city, now thats a bad turning circle. Also, U turns are easy when you apply a little opposite lock . Size of the boot? Its big enough for a swag and a bag full of clothes, so suits me just fine. Sure I can't sleep in it like my Wagon or my Liberty (folding down seats in a sedan are awesome, especially while intoxicated. Gets cold though) but is that really why they where made? But I guess the guy is entitled to his opinions, even if they are wrong
  23. On the side they say "Speedline Mag-R Replica". All I know about them is that they are 17" and apparently have been with the car since Japan. Have no idea on what they are worth, something I'll try and find out in the future.
  24. Live in Terrey Hills, work in Warriewood. Almost stereotypical North Shorerer
  25. I first found my way here for shits and giggles, but I have finally made the plunge and got myself a Skyline I tell you now I probably wouldn't be able to conjure up the balls to buy one without all the usefull information here. But anyways, pics!! NOTE: No longer has trade plates Just your stock R33 GTS-t with fancy rims and some Blitz turbo timer. My plans are to find some little things, like a Type M front bumper (or similar) and possibly Strut Brace / Brake Cylinder Stopper. I plan to keep it stock, but I believe my mates at work are taking bets on how long that will last... My overall feeling at the moment is along the lines of "{Insert Profanity} If this is only a GTS-t, what does a GT-R go like " Anyways, bed now, gotta drive it tomorrow
