Sau Lend Me Your Ears! Rb25 Noise
gotRICE? replied to gotRICE?'s topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thanks guys I will give the alternator trick a go and see what happens next time its cold cold. Then i will think about doing the waterpump/cam belt etc.. I use Motul Turbolite oil. Seems to do the trick. But have recently sourced Royal Purple for a pretty good price so might switch to that next. I wouldnt know if its forged but i highly doubt it as i bought the car stock standard. So hope its not piston slap! And yup, was yours Dan my man. I mentioned it when we did the coilpacks. Will give these things a try. -
Yeah made a bad call. For some reason i overlooked the external

Looks something like this I was meaning stock turbo btw.. I cant tell from the pics. Dont know what a stock RB20 looks like

Sau Lend Me Your Ears! Rb25 Noise
gotRICE? replied to gotRICE?'s topic in Engines & Forced Induction
NFI, but i would imagine it hasnt been done since i bought it at 48,000km 1st owner in NZ. I guess it could have done a million KM from Japan, but the overall appearance of the interior/exterior/seats/underbody would suggest its fairly genuine. Only way to figure what one it could be would be by changing each one i guess... And does this mean that these problems could become less apparent when they are warm? -
Find the actuator and pull the vac hose off it? There is only one... And is the car "stock"? AS it wont behave much at all once it hits boost cut, or the turbo explodes

Hi guys, I have had a wierd noise in/on/around my RB25DEt for a while but never got around to do anything with it so 1st off ill explain. Sepc (if it matters) 1998 R33 GTS25t 59,000km Stock dump > 3" HKS Front > Decat > HKS Hi-Power Silent Catback R32 10psi Actuator with stock solenoid removed Apexi Panel filter Blitz LM FMIC This noise only EVER occurs at cold idle. And when i say cold, i mean the block has to have no heat in it at all. So its generally an overnight thing. The next time its started it does it. It does not ever do it once there is a bit of heat in the engine. So to overcome it i generally let the car warm up for a few mins or so before i drive it. Other than this. Everything sounds/runs mint. Engine runs strong, never misses a beat. Runs great on the track and drag strip. And when on a long run, apart from the exhaust you would swear it isnt even idling (when stopped) it is so quiet. Sounds amazing. So heres the noise. Can anyone identify it? Is it "normal"? Does anyone else have the noise? The noise is clearly obvious. And it does it anywhere from 1200rpm > 1500rpm. Anything more/less its not there. A friend of mine on this forum, his RB25DEt also does this, but it is very quiet. Still noticeable, but compared to his mine is like a megaphone is attatched to it. Can anyone recommend anything? Thanks in advance for the help. As the noise does bother me.

Hey guys, thought someone might be able to shed some light. Was thinking of buying and SAFC II for a basic tune up. The only local one i can find has a password lock on it, and the seller doesnt know it. Says that its simple to reset. Have been searching online for a while trying to find out how to reset the password lock without the actual code. Does anyone know how to do it? The seller is very vague about resetting it, and just says "its easy to do", but when i ask the question it is ignored. Any help?? Cheers!

I had serious boost creep with the JJR split item, as did alot of other members. BUT AFAIK they have put a thicker flange on to overcome the wastegate flap not opening properly? But in saying that, i took to mine with a dremmel and got the flap opening fully and still spiked to 14-15psi on the stock turbo. So went back to stock dump into an HKS front. What sort of power would the stock dump pipe really become a "restriction" on the stock turbo?
-
How long are you on restrictions for? If its not long, dont waste your time/$/effort. Unless you absolutely MUST have an NA Skyline. Buy a Honda. Factory reliability, decent power and alot of cheap aftermarket bits to play with.
-
Good Ol Auckland? HA! No worries. GL with it.
-
Nooo its at the block end of the bottom hose hehe. You only need to undo it from the engine side, not the radiator side Also theres some cheaper silicon hoses on www.trademe.co.nz too.
-
Look on Ebay. There should be plenty of cheap aftermarket silicon hoses on there! Thermostat is located at the end of the bottom Radiator hose. 3 bolts holding the housing in. Piece of cake to change
-
at the end of one of the bottom radiator hose. 3 bolts in a Tri shape to undo.

gotRICE? replied to Aggroman's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Are they Vspec R32 GTR brakes? As i was under the impression that unless it was a Vspec the 32 GTR brakes werent brembo. So why would you bother? -

To-day's Cheapest 98ron In Your Area Is...?
gotRICE? replied to CARSICK's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Waaaa??! I think when 8000 was introduced to NZ it was 1.10 at the cheapest I cant remember, as i dont look anymore either but i think its down quite low at the moment. And so it friggin should be with the price per barrel being LOWER than it was when we paid 90c a litre > : ( -
Looks great! Engine bay is hot!! Now.. say it with me.. S U S P E N T I O N! hahaha. Wow they ride hight stock!
-
Can i be the 1st to ask how you managed that on the road?? Was it monsooning or something?
-
Another great way is to borrow a friends. If you know someone local that has a car running mint, swap it out and try that. Its what Lith and I did with my coilpacks in his car. Basically eliminates an area of possible problems without spending a cent.

*cough* 57,000km S2 R33 *cough* -
Hey man. Yeah all went perfect. Just unlug and un-bolt the solenoid. Have the Actuator vac line running straight to the Intercooler pipe (where it is factory) and the line that comes of the intake pipe, either get a blank for it or put a bolt in it. Whallah!

From what i gather what head is irrelevant. He is looking for ideas that he could adapt i guess... But specific probly would help more Im hunting out venting ideas for RB25
