  1. Does it state that its needed for a stock bonnet? The OEM latch is unlikely to fail, and if it does, the safety catch is also unlikely to fail.. if you see it quick enough. I wouldnt be worried about a secondary catch for an OEM bonnet. Unless it clearly states it IS required for an OEM bonnet too. Iv been track racing for years, and the only people i know with pins are those with CF bonnets where the catch isnt bolted to anything structural, IE the fiberglass skeleton. Also, out of the many many many days i have been to i have NEVER ever seen a bonnet come unlatched or fly open. The odd muffler fall out the ass, fuel tank straps coming off and blown motors/boxes, even an engine mount bolt working loose and flying out under the car... but never a bonnet!
  2. Good to know! And also correct, condition over km. Its all in how its looked after
  3. Me thinks someone is making themselves believe that their car has done less mileage than it reads Haha jks It does make alot of sence. But not in all cases. I bought my 98 R33 this year with 48,000km on it. I was wary of this, but the interior condition, the carpet, steering wheel, mats and gearknob were immaculate. The seats are flawless. You can generally tell if a cars bullshitting its mileage by interior quality. The overall condition of everything was unbeatable. So i believed the NZ AA in their speedo guarantee and went with it. Seems to be still holding true! EDIT: Also a speedo man once told me that if the 100,000 didgit doesnt perfectly line up with the 10,000 didgit its a good indication. For some reason when the 1 in the 100,000 is wound back to 0, it never goes back flush. Check it out?
  4. Not an R34 experience, but may be helpful... I have an R34 SMIC in my R33, I have full 3" Turbo back exhaust, split dump pipe and Apexi Intake, high boost mod.. Not sure on the power, but at a guess the same as everyone else with these basic mods. After a "spirited" drive, iv gotten home and thrown a hand on the back of the SMIC (i am missing the inner guard due to R34 SMIC girth and failed clips) just to see, and it is hot.. i mean HOT. Normal driving on the open road with plenty of boost its similar. Its only cool when i dont give it stink. One problem i can think of is that the Apexi intake is also very hot, IE sucking in hot air, as i dont have an airbox around it yet. I dont feel any heatsoak issues or anything like that. It never hesitates or anything.
  5. Im pretty sure Trust do a hard pipe kit that replaces the "twin turbo" pipes. The only downside i know of is on a 32, they are a little high too, and rub on the bonnet
  6. Why would you upgrade your brakes AFTER the track day?
  7. I dont see why not, probly cheaper and easier to buy your own via Japan tho wouldnt it
  8. Just out of curiosity, when a turbo blows itself to bits like your suggesting this one could, what would "lunch" the motor? Is it possible for the turbo particles to get through the intercooler? It doesnt look like theres alot of room for bits to get through! (i dont know a great deal about turbos blowing up.. thought this might be a good place to ask )
  9. Its a shit, Nissan NZ wont be getting any in new because they cant offer the Nissan New car service they provide with every other new model purchased. Something to do with not having the qualified mechanics or necissary tools needed to do the yearly engine teardown required Very sad. But they will be grey imported no doubt. There was one on Trademe last week that dissapeared. Was on for $169000NZD if i remember right.
  10. Any chance on a price for the R32 GTR wheels shipped to NZ?
  11. Confirm x2. Just make sure the inner guard bolt/clips are tight. Its lower than the R33 so its tight.
  12. Dude, chill out. I said it FEELS better. I didnt say it was :s My ITR when i bought it had done 99,000km, so it had double the wear on it. So when i compare the suspention that I owned, then the Skylines FELT better. Its definatley firmer than the ITR was. But then again so was my mums Toyota Curren, but that had dont 30,000km. Its all about wear and tear. I bet a brand new stock ITR is hard as hell.
  13. nizmo_freek has one for sale, non vented For 33.. Think he wanted $500 odd for it. EDIT: Doh.. Aussie forum, were both Kiwis..
  14. Im actually reall impressed with the Stock suspention in my 33, keeping in mind it has only done 50,000km, its very very firm! Id be safe to say that it feels a little better than my stock Integra Type R suspention did when i got it.
  15. I believe that would be the Honda NSX, around Laguna Seca, Monterey, California
  16. Now if only i could get one to have a drive in The only person i know that has one is pushing 429wkw, so thats a bit unfair comparison
  17. you might have to get something custom made? Instead of an "S" bend, maybe have it a little longer and have a loop? Try a wrecker? theres bound to be a hose on something that would have an "S" like that
  18. Cool. Based on the stock gague, accurate or not, with the HKS exhaust and decat (stock dump/front) it would constantly boost to the +5 mark on the stock gague. The increase is just from adding the dump pipe. Ill see if i can borrow a mates boost gague and have a look, make sure its actually not running too high, nor creeping higher. Dont want to go buy a cheapo gague meerly cos its a waste of coin and not the look im after, im after an APEXi EL2 series, but they are pricey and i also neet the control unit lol. Thankyou for your input. Turbos are so much more complex than VTEC's haha. Or is it just that im not clued up yet
  19. Seeing as im kinda new to the Turbo/Skyline area im at a loss to what to do next.. Anyway heres the problem. Last night i noticed the stock boost gague reading higer than it normally does. It doesnt hit +7, but its probly 2-3mm off it. Maybe half way between +5 and +7, maybe a little more. Kinda hard to keep looking at it Mods are as follows, 3" JRR Split Dump/Front pipe 3" De-cat 3" HKS Silent Power Catback Stock "Hi-Boost" mod A'PEXi Intake Before i installed the Dump pipe, it would boost straight to the +5 line and stay there always. And now, it will boost to that, then creep up a little then hold again at the higher PSi. Basically what i want to know, is it possible that theres a problem? I have checked all vacume lines etc for leaks. OR Is it just that the exhaust is very free-flowing and its just boosting higher cos it can? At a guess, its around 12psi from the stock gague.. but i really dont know. And i read that 12psi is kinda the max you'd want to run on a stock turbo yes? Seeing as its only done 50,000km, im not too keen on destroying it any time soon I dont have an aftermarket boost gague at the moment either so i cant be 100% sure. Ideas? Its it bad? Normal? The next thing i spose ill have to do is put the stock dump pipe back on and see if it goes back to normal. Not keen! ha. Thanks guys! Any help is appreciated.
  20. Just to save you the flame, have a quick search and you will find many topics about this. Skylines dont like atmo venting BOVs. Stick to stock. Theres nothing wrong with it. And if your only after the sound, well... thats another story.
  21. Hey, Got my Split Dump/Front from JustJap earlier this week and went about attacking it at home. The build is really good, the photos on the page dont do it any justice (hint.. change them ) So anyway.. my thoughts. The two problems i encountered, although minor, now i figured out what i need to do means unbolting it again. 1st problem, is one of the bottom nuts on the flange wouldnt fit. The pipe is fat, and bends qucikly out of the flange stealing the room needed to put the nut back on. Silly me bolted it up anyway thinking id get a mte to fix it Lying in bed.. DOH, if i had the nut in place on the flange while sliding it on, it would have worked. So simple fix, but being bolted up it means i have to do it again I didnt get any exhaust leaks, so ill wait till i get on a hoist. Its a pain using the scissor jack and stands haha. Problem 2, is the wastegate pipe touches the turbo water feed. It not ony touches it but you actually have to push it up to get the dump pipe to fit. In turn, pushing it up also pushes it against the manifold shield. A quick solution is bending it out the way, i did try this, but f**k me that line is strong! And i dont want to break it off the turbo personally. Again i will get my mate to have a play as he is RB king. Might even replace it with a braided line so i can put it where i see fit. It will be ok temporarily, but constant rubbing and vibration it will eventually wear through. Sorry about the asshat image. My camera is odd sometimes. As i suspected i didnt feel a great deal of difference. It sounds a bit cleaner than it used to on boost. And for the price, its great
  22. I really dont think it matters a great deal, been running around for ages now without it. Might just get the odd stone flicking up into it i guess. My front bumper is slightly different from most if seen, its a optional 40th Annaversary, the inlet for the cooler isnt as big as your runo of the mill R33 But it does the trick i guess. Its just that black piece by the indicator, its all slotted like a vent. And thats it Does anyone on here have one like this? This is the 1st iv seen!
  23. I managed to pick my R34 SMIC for $50NZD, it wasnt immaculate condition like i wanted, but worth a try, and its worked well. The inner guard is stretched a little making the bottom a bit tight to bolt back together. I had my clip fail and the inner guard popped off and shredded/burnt/ripped itself to pieces on the tyre Still yet to replace it too!
  24. IMHO its worth what it costs you to fix it. Or, its worth whatever they regularly go for privately, minus the cost to fix Personally i wouldnt be buying a blown gearbox to fix it. The most id do would be pay for shipping
  25. Thats not very nice haha. I guess i didnt notice a difference when i put in my de-cat ( yay for not having emission laws.. yet ) because my Skyline had only done 49,000km, ( now 50,000 ) so it was probly not overly clogged up. The biggest change i noticed was it gurgled more at idle and the note when driving was a little more pronounced. Oh, and it spat a few flames when the exhaust was very hot, after long drives etc. After a squirt of boost and gear changes.
