  1. Thanks again mate. Yes I think you are right. The Q5 is just a SUV that has enough grunt to tow. Which is perfect for me since I intend to use it every day and probably tow a max of 10x per year. The Toureg is nice but is a bit big for daily a daily drive (for me). I also like the Q5 interior. Hmm still undecided at this stage. What good deal is there atm Marlin?
  2. I just read the pdf's and noticed the part where it says "Rotate the cam until it touches the piston" lol It doesn't look like the controller receive anything from the power fc or ecu output. Just a stab in dark, have you try another CAS? Interestingly the controller receives signal from MAF sensor. Does this mean it may not work properly on a car with MAP sensor?
  3. Thanks for the feedback Marlin. Could you elaborate on the " fairyness" mate? I went to VW on the weekend as well. The gearbox in the Tourag gave me a feeling like it has more torque and is good for towing.
  4. Yeah so true. He suggested to buy more shares and probably think I am mad with the amount of money I've spent on vehicles but we all work hard and only live 1x The Q5 has the same engine as the Q7 and V6 TDI Tourag. It has a dual wet clutches DSG 7 speed similar to the r35 gtr and is lighter so it's quicker and more fuel efficient that the other 2. The downside with the gearbox is its towing capacity is reduced to 2.5 tones. This is plenty for my need. I took the Q5 for a test drive last weekend and it's not too bad. It's hopeless in manual with the diesel engine and 7 speed. You have to shift gears like crazy to keep it in the power band. The car handling is ok but demo car had the electronic dampener and 19" rims. I just don't know how well it tow though.
  5. I am in the market for a 4wd to replace my daily car as well. I want a diesel 4wd that can tow and is fuel efficient without the boring feel of a boat on wheels. Obviously with that criteria it's difficult but I've narrowed down to 3 cars; the VW V6 TDI "tow rag", Audi Q5 and Navara D22 4x4. I think it will come down to which will give me the most for my trade in. I know that my accountant will suggest the Navara but I am hoping it will be the Q5 I intend to drive it daily and will probably never take it off road. What do you guys think of these? Is there anything I should look out for with these options?
  6. USB> Serial is a pain. If it's not constant, it will be intermittent. PCMCIA > Serial is better but can be annoying sometimes too when you knock it due to the tight space in the car. Then some new laptop only take the express pcmcia card By the time you had enough with these connector you will get a cheap old laptop with a serial port just to muck around in the car....or get an ecu with a usb connector.
  7. Wow this should be very interesting to see when everything work! What are the Alcon inputs? RPM, TPS, MAP/MAF? Do you have the manual for us to explore?
  8. Head porting is like a black art for me. When does a light port becomes too much, hurt mid range response and is only good for top end?
  9. hmm I like the good head job Roy, can you shed some more light regarding these cams? I am keen to know by what you mean "peaky with a big hole in response". I cant wait to see this baby on the dyno.
  10. Nice Dazmo! If you need to use a hoist and a pair of hands let me know mate. I reckon we can change the box and the shaft in one morning For a person that live at the base of a hill with some of the nicest roads in Australia, I doubt that you will have much problem with taking corners mate.
  11. What speed does it wobble at and what tyres are on the car? I had something similar to this when I had the ppg. The tyres were worn. I changed to a new set of tyres and the problem went a way. I have an OS gearbox now and don't have this problem. I doubt that it is the gearbox.
  12. hehe thanks mate. I prefer a sleeper look and let my track time speaks for itself. So the car that I built is not very photogenic. I also took the easy option and purchased a built engine from a reliable source....but don't hold that against me mate. You are doing a great job. It has been a pleasure to follow so far. Keep up the good work. Good luck with the rest of the project. I love to have time to post some pics up as well but I have been busy rebuilding my turbo s2000. My bnr32 has also given me a few glitches as late. It's almost sorted though. It will be good to see your car on the track buddy. Hopefully we will all get a dry track in QLD for a change lol
  13. Yes that is the Dazmo we all know One of the nicest guys in this game. Don't hold back mate. I know you have some more sexier pictures
  14. If you want trouble free gearbox for your application, get the OS giken.
  15. You are amazing Uras and thanks for the info. That info is very hard to get! I looked everywhere for that info before I ordered the T618Z and had to speculate the wheels sizes from the TD06 and another turbo. You wouldn't have a compressor map for the T618z handy do you?
  16. Xrated, you can see on the dyno that the torque falls off a bit but it doesn't feel like it on the road. The T517z definitely was restrictive at top end, but the midrange was phenomenal. If my car is a dedicated circuit car I would of kept them.
  17. I am sorry to hear of the Jun failure Mick. That is the second one I heard of. The other one is Willo. That is as rare as anything for circuit cars. Do you know what caused the failure?
  18. I was hoping that I can compare the difference on the dyno. However my tuner upgraded his dyno between the turbo change over. We compared my setup with a few other 2.6 with T517z. It's been a while but from memory, the T618Z's on the 3L comes on boost quicker and has more top end power than the 2.6 + T517 setup. I am not a real fan of dyno number. The car made somewhere around 420rwkw with boost 98 in South Australia then made 600rwhp on a dyno in QLD. Changed to a vipec ecu and e85 fuel and only made 580hp at another dyno in QLD The car is going through a few changes in the garage at the moment. The funny thing is that I made all of that power with a 100mm HKS copy intercooler I did not realise it until I took the intercooler off Trent, the head is slightly high flowed with 272 and big lift.
  19. I upgraded my T517z to a T618Z a while back. I lost a bit of bottom end and gained a lot more at top end as expected. It's on a 3L so it's not laggy at all. I would love to know how these compare to the HKS GTRS though.
  20. My reason is the same as your. I want my surge tank to be full all the time and fill my main tank as low as possible on the track. Sure the feed pump is capable of keeping up with my 2x 044 and 100% duty cycle 1000cc injectors in a normal situation. However on the track it will suffer surge and only fill up the surge tank during the straight part of the track. IMHO it defeat the purpose to return the fuel to the main tank and run the risk of surge.
  21. That's a fcuk up service. Make my blood boil to see another person getting jig by those mobs Dave. There is no doubt that they provide some great products for this sport but the way they do business is just ridiculously stupid. They charge premium dollar for the one who can pay, sponsor people who can lie for their products and fcuk u around when there is a problem. The good new is that, it sounds like your shifter rails are bent Dave. The installers of the gearbox should have checked that. Willall racing used to be able to get billet/stronger rails made up. I am not sure if they still can do that but might be worthwhile to give them a call. How is your R32 going Dave? Will be good to see you at the timeattck meet again.
  22. It's there to cool the clutch fluid to prevent boiling. With the stuffs removed I usually have to bleed the clutch after a drag or track day. BTW where did you get your braided line from?
  23. What is the point of having a surge tank if you return the fuel to the main tank? Is there any good low pressure high flow pump that is ethanol/e85 compatible? I am thinking of changing my feed pump to something else ready for e85.
  24. dorifticon, your power band will depends on which turbo you will use. You will still get vaccumm at idle with that setup.
  25. Yes it does. However I promised to give it to a a friend for his great help. Sorry. Radiator and Cusco tension bar are sold. Thanks
