Superlap 2009 Gets A Green Light!
9krpm replied to Superlap Australia's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Nathan, it's still hard to be competitive for enthusiasts to race in a field of pro or instructor level drivers. Most pro drivers are at least 3 seconds per lap faster than us mere mortals on an average track. There are not much you can do to the engine or tyres to get that much faster. IMHO the current rules will promote a lot of cheque book racers ie owners with pro drivers in the open class. Is there any chance we have "pro/hired driver" and "owner-driver" brackets in the open class? I am sure this will give more incentives for people in the sprint class to move to the (owner-driver) open class. -
Is there any discount for 2 orders from QLD benny ? I might be able to get one if the price is right

My trip to Japan for the first time will be the same time. I am looking at booking a few things too. I think Nismo festival is on the 30th of November @ Fuji speed way. I am still looking at booking things for this. Does anyone know where is the best place to stay for this? How far away is fuji speed way from Tokyo and Okayama? Does anyone know when the Time attack at Tsukuba will be this year?

Help Choosing Alloy Radiator. Pros/cons
9krpm replied to robots's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I have a Greddy radiator. It works fairly well with all of the standard setup. -
Do you guys have any oil pressure safety switch to shut down the engine if the oil pressure is lost eg when the belt comes off? What parts do you use for this pressure safety switch and how did you wire it up?

Duncan, I've gone through 2 sets of PPG and a bit reluctant to get a 3rd set until I find the causes of the failure. I've been very gentle with them and all dog gears are fine. In my last set, the a couple of gears were worn and had pitting marks on them. I am not entirely sure of the cause and suspect that high oil temp could be one of the causes. The OS Giken gearbox seems to cope well though. I've not monitor the oil temperature and will do that when I have more track time again. I am just exploring the options of oil cooler since I have a few cooler cores and a 12 volt pump lying around. What oil temp do you normally see in the gearbox on the track Duncan? Doesn't that T piece just measure or modify the ATTESSA actuator pressure? It looks like they also had a a transfer case oil cooler from the picture. They drained it at the drain point on the driver side and returned it at the filler hole on the back of the xfer case. From the picture you can also see an oil filter. I suspect that this is part of their gearbox oil cooler system. Do you have anyother picture?

Is There Any Good Mobile Dent Remover Or Panel Beater In The Gold Coast
9krpm replied to 9krpm's topic in Queensland
Yes it's a very mentally challenging exercise. I know now why some of my other mates play with Porches, AMG and Lambo. I was repeated asked if I drift the car or why don't I deregister it and tow it around for the track or why does it have this and that (things that GTS-t doesn't have) They either don't know what they are doing or like to harrass people. For once it's a GTR so it's fairly difficult and expensive to drift. Secondly if I have a track car only, this street registered car can potentially be owned and abused by a hoon. Thirdly they all quickly forget how unsafe a 4WD with a trailer is on the road Anyway not everything were bad, they spotted an oil leak -
Just had another look underneath the car. The transfer case drain points the driver side and filler points backward. So yeah safe to install fittings. The gearbox drain is not a good place to use for oil cooler outlet because it will protrude the fitting to the ground. It is also in front of the gearbox cross member and is not protected by anything else. It will easily be wiped off by speed hump. Has anyone else got other suggestion? Gibson GTR had gearbox cooler. Has anyone got any pic of their setup? thanks

Is There Any Good Mobile Dent Remover Or Panel Beater In The Gold Coast
9krpm replied to 9krpm's topic in Queensland
Thanks for the contact but no the car can not be driven until these items are repaired. My mate's friend is coming around to fix it. It's fairly minor but has to be fixed. I am so glad that I have a hoist at home -
I think the transfer case drain bolt faces forward so there is plenty of clearance. The gearbox drain bolt points down. Any fitting on this part will takes another ~20mm and can easily get caught into things. I rather not do things than do it in a bad way and run the risk of damaging the box. The gearbox case is a very well engineered part that reinforces and holds all of the gearbox internal. I don't want to tap at the wrong place either. The drain point for the diff points down was well so I did not use the drain. The diff back cover does not play any part in its structural rigidity. I tapped the diff cover for the cooler.

Isn't that block part of the clutch fluid cooler. Wouldn't removal of that block leads to overheating/boiling of the fluid? Mine was removed when I purchased the car. I've been thinking of getting one to try and see if there is any benefit. Shaun, don't bin that unit and make a donation by sending that unit to me ?
