  1. Love all of the comments so far I don't mind all of the safety requirements. I SEE the benefits of PPE in this dangerous sport. If anything I would love to see a proper promotion of this aspect of the sport. There are a lot of misconceptions out there even among the marshals I have ballistic blankets and all of the other requirements. I just need a pair of front legs (or what ever you call em lol) + 2 side intrusion bars on top of my 4 points and I am good to go. That's not a real pain. What I whinged about was the membership fee for casual racers like me. I love to have only one hobby and 1 mouth to feed but I have other commitments and can't drag race as often as I would love to. I like the sport and love to support it. It's interesting that you mentioned personal protection also. Every time I raced before I had to sign an indemnity form which I always assumed that I need to leave a few dough at home for the god forbid possible medical bills from an accident. Has this changed? If you asked for a proposal I will do propose now in plain and simple term. Andra, please reduce the joining fee otherwise people like me will take our businesses elsewhere.
  2. I was trying to be jovial with my post mate. I built my car 4-5 years ago for fun on both circuit and drag. The cage was built to comply for a 10 sec run. I had a superstreet membership for 2 years. Then drag strip in South Australia closed. Moved to QLD for work and past 3 years, I have been so busy that I ceased my membership. I have a bit of spare time now so I tried to get my cage certifiy with Andra. I then realised that I will need a to convert it into a full cage. Emailed Andra and did not get reply within a week. I called them and yep UDL + full cage + a few more. Got an email back with similar response a few days after the phone call....... I am not sure if I misread the cage requirement back then or Andra changed their rule recently :(but I know my fate next time I am on the track.....if I don't snap my rear axle ....I will get kick out for a 10sec run. $400+ annually for 2-3 drag days is not value for money for me. I guess I will stick with CAMS sanctioned events. If you are using common sense to risk assess people lives then you should not start the risk assessment in the first place! Risk assessment is a scientific process not just purely common sense. Full roll cage ==> reduces the risk of injury from roll and side impacts. It does not save you from frontal collision at 200+ kph. If you have a full noise head on impact at 200kph, be prepare to stay in ICU for more than a few days. Harness and safe seat will reduces the risk of decceleration injury from frontal or rear impact Safety PPE (glove, suites etc) are for reducing the risk of burn injury. Everyone should have one if they use an aftermarket fuel system IMHO Risk assessment is a dynamic process, should have some real scientific evidence to back it up and should not be resistance to new technological changes
  3. Yes but the total risk is the product of relative risk and exposure. Infrequent exposure (drag race) in a medium risk category still should be considered as low risk. I am thinking the same line as dirtgarage as well. Why cant we have a "PAYGO" system. It certainly will attract a lot more enthusiasts and should improve Andra revenue. It's not rocket science, just a basic supply and demand curve. Nah it's more fun to get people different opinions on here. If I call up Andra, I will get a very straight Nazi answer.....pay to play mate. Or may be I should enlighten them with a brief supply and demand economic lesson as well.....I doubt that will change anything though
  4. If you want an OS giken engine like that from an Aus workshop, the best workshop to call is Willall racing. They sold a few engines to GTR enthusiasts in the past. I am sure they can build you one if you have a healthy cheque book. There isn't much drag racing action from them for the past few years because the drag strip in SA has been closed. I am sure you can get more info on the T67 turbo as well. Willall racing owner has been using those turbo for a long time.
  5. Thanks for reiterating that. Certainly safety is the foremost important aspect of any sport. I have no problem with the safety requirements at all. However, how does enthusiasts like me benefit from paying the full UDL? What does the personal protection cover? Why is this cover higher than the guys, with superstreet licence, that don't have as much personal protective equipment or safety equipment in their slower vehicle? As you rightly said they can still roll their cars and kill themselves at lower speed too...if they don't have the full roll cage.
  6. Thanks Ryan. I am in the Goldie but that's is still better than nothing at all
  7. Damn, I want this fuel in QLD? Can someone please correct me and say it's available in tis sugar cane state ?
  8. I am asking myself, everyone else on this forum and Andra the same question too mate? Without even trying to kill the gearbox I did 11.4 @126mph two years ago. This was with worn RE55 and agressive ciruit camber. The rear axle snapped on the 2nd run. I've been too busy and have not been back. The car has 100hp more and 100kg less than last time. I like to go back but I am going to get kick off after one run. I am asking why should I be banned and only allowed to return to the track after I can cough up more $$$ to Andra? I have 4 points roll cage, built to Andra spec. I have 6 points harness, also a good enough helmet and personal protective equipment to pass higher speed events on the circuit. What's the UDL going to offer that my last license super street couldn't? r35 owners going to share the same faith with their cars soon too. Imagine after an ecu mod and some light weight diet, the r35 owner will get kick off the track until he/she get a full cage, ballistic blankets (in the rear of the car this time ) etc etc to be able to come back to the track I am hearing you Pauly. Beside Heathcote, is there any drag strip closer to QLD that is not Andra sanctioned?
  9. I am planning to take the car for a few runs at Willobank for fun. I used to have a superstreet license and used to take the car out to the drag 2-3 times per year but I have not done that for 1-2 years now. The membership was around $150 per year and it wasn't too bad for a few runs a year. I just checked Andra website and it looks like they have raised the bar in everything! It say that I will have to get the Unlimited license $491 or $341 (not sure of the difference either), a log book for the car $30 and a cage inspection more $$$. I also need a medical exam...this wont cost me a thing coz I have access to free medical check up...but other people that will be another $100+ This sort of licensing fee is getting ridiculous for an enthusiast like me.....I am sure others would feel the pinch too. I track the car as well so that's $120 for CAMS and another $50+ for an AASA licence The total cost of these fees is more than an oversea trip these days I take my cars to the circuit more often than the drag strip and 1-200 bucks a year is not too bad but the Andra one is not good to support atm. I can foresee that I will get a call from a Jamboree organiser again and my only excuse for not racing any of my cars will be "I can't afford the Andra licence Ray" Can anyone enlighten me with the prospect of changing my mind on how to spend my hard earned dosh with the benefits of joining Andra? Why is it so expensive compare to the others membership? Also is there a full 1/4 mile drag strip track near/in QLD that is not Andra sanctioned?
  10. Better airflow through the filters reduces the negative pressure difference in front of the 2 turbo. In my car I had 2x HKS filters. I've never been a fan of foam filters and the car is still street register so it sees a bit of dust on the roads. I changed them to a pair of apexi. I instantly had more choochoo. I cleaned them with K&N air filter cleaner and did not reoil them. The surges went away. Now it only surges at cold night when it overboost past 2bars. I may give these balanced hks manifolds a try if Paul accept bucket of Aud gold coins
  11. a good set of high flow air filters will also help
  12. You know you won't usually get away with comments like that on here but this is a superlap thread so I will let you go....lightly 438rwkw with a 3L capacity is nothing I tracked a stock RB with 400+rwkw for sometimes too before I upgraded to a better RB Don't be weak
  13. hmm yes I forgot about the divider in the GT-SS Like Beer said you have to grind the divider on the Trust ext. My Mines extension and dump pipes will be for sale today when I get my car back from my mechanic If you don't want to grind your beautiful Trust dump, drop me a line . BTW I got Hioctane to express post me a set of the Trust gaskets after all of the hassles from Advan, but after looking at the gaskets we decided to use the metal nissan gaskets
  14. The dump flange is the same as the tracing on the paper (same as the Greddy T618Z). Your turbine outlet is same as the used gasket. They will bolt up I am still waiting for my gaskets that should have come with the trust extension kit from Advan after a week of phone calls BTW which gasket will you be using? Also is there any Trust logo on your dump-extesion pipes?
  15. nah just give me the Japanese chick and you will be right If you are all set, I will try to come out and run a 9 as well...since I don't have any Jap chick excuse A Saturday is better for me but if you are all going down there on Wed, I will try my best to get out there and share the fun as well Let me know if you have any change of plan Russ.
  16. I will have more respect for a car that can go fast both around corners and in the straight without mucking around with too many settings. Surely the car is not "sorted" if it can only go fast around corners
  17. We should have a Superlap on Sat and a 1/4 mile shoot out on Sunday. It should stop some of the on this board Well done to all of those who competed. I am sure you all gained a lot of experience and had hell load of fun. I wish I can be there for the next one.
  18. Is the engine still in the car? When I tried to get a front mechanical diff, the SA OS Giken distributor's mechanic said that it's a sump off job/a lot of grinding and sold me the carbon ATS instead. The carbon ATS diff installation was straight forward with the sump still in the car. I am actually selling the engine with the ATS diff atm. The engine is at my friend's workshop in SA. The ATS 1.5 way front diff only had around 1 drag day and 2 track days so it's barely broken in. If you want an sump with an installed diff drop me a pm SLY33.
  19. Awesome run. Big congratulation again!!!
  20. giant, did you have any incar footage of the r35 at Superlap?
  21. Like your work keeper. If you do ever produce a manual let me know. I wish I don't have to do what you are doing but if need be I would love to have some pointers like your manual and have a go at this myself
  22. Thanks guys. Advan is sending me a set of Trust gaskets that are a bit bigger than the one in the picture and should be the same size as the drawing on the paper ie fits the turbo and dump perfectly Now I have the luxury dilema of not knowing which to put in....just like an obsessive man with 2 watches LOL I used the permaseal gaskets on my high flowed N1 and T517z and they worked well. I used the Greddy gasket on the T618Z and they blew. There could be a number of reasons for this though but the Greddy gasket looks a bit flimsy compare to the permaseal Hmmm has anyone had any trouble with the Greddy gaskets before?
  23. I had 2 go at it aldready Beer and it won't fit. I wish that someone can show me a way. I found a picture on SAU of what we are looking at As you can see from the picture the sump sits roughly inline with where the front mounting points for the caster rods are. The cusco mount into the inside bracket of the caster rod mounting points. These mounting points are behind the sump. The cusco brace is offset to the front. It will clear most of the sump extension but not at the top of the extension. It would be nice if the cusco has a tad more offset. Dunc, I know of someone, who is very fast on this forum, had to reweld the caster rod mounting point. The cause of the break is certainly unknown. I don't know what caster rods he has either. One would assume this would break, from ripple strip or during transportation, rather than the front mounting bracket.
  24. I gave Advan a call this morning and they have the gaskets in stock Problem fixed
  25. It was an awesome day. I had a lot of fun. Thanks to Paul and all the sponsors . The R35 was nice and fast in the wet. Good luck the the engine wrxkilla.
