From Traffic Law.com.au Exceed speed limit by 45km/h or more (12 month suspension) Exceed speed limit by 35km/h or more but less than 45km/h (6 month suspension) You can also add additional time onto your P's as well, when my idiot brother lost his license he got 3 months added on to his P's in addition to the 3 months he lost from his license being suspended. So if thats the case for you and you just got your P's you can expect to be off your P's sometime in 2016. 4 years on P's + 1 year suspension + 1 year added for being an idiot.

School holidays thread?? hmmm Anyways if your chasing power and your currently driving the V6 do a V8 conversion, you can buy entire donor cars for as little as $1500 a couple of weekends later you have yourself a V8 commodore and you might even be able to break even if you part out the donor car on ebay. Getting that approved is a piece of piss compared with engineering a LS1 or a RB26. And if you really want massive amounts of power for an extra 5-7.5k you can get an ADR approved supercharger kit and be cranking out 230kw+ at the wheels. All legal no worries for less than 10k if you do the work yourself. Compared with an RB26 conversion its a bargain.

I'm still running XP and i've had this feature for at least a couple of months now on my firefox. My gf has vista on her laptop and it only just got the update yesterday for the skins. It must be determined by your version of windows or at least thats my current theory.

Question For Qualified Computer Person
FrangaR33 replied to MSTRshenanigans's topic in PC & Games Discussion
It was quite some time ago now, probably 6 or 7 years ago..man i've been doing this stuff for a long time. Fried processor my favourite, always fun cleaning off burnt on thermal paste. I think it all comes down to component and build quality about 2 years ago my newphew finally got rid of the Compaq 486 that we gave him about 10 years ago, after we had it for 8 years and we bought it second hand. Nowadays people expect things to fail, then they just buy a new one. My sister much to my horror went and bought a new dell laptop a little over 18 months ago and its been nothing but grief ever since GPU issues, faulty screen, buggered HDD all fixed under warranty and now its out of warranty shes having a teary it doesnt work and they want $700 to repair it. It only cost my parents $1200. The ironic thing is she still has the desktop that I built for her (that is superior to the laptop I might add) sitting there collecting dust. Some women I swear it has to be all stylish and shit as opposed to what actually works. -
Question For Qualified Computer Person
FrangaR33 replied to MSTRshenanigans's topic in PC & Games Discussion
It really depends if its home made/made at the local computer shop they usually last but the old desktops were shit especially the mass market ones, my gf's old laptop she gave to her mum which she got about 6 years ago is still going strong despite being dropped and being used by people who are practically computer illiterate. It seems these days everything is made to a budget even more than before, or more likely people just accept rubbish products and go out and buy a replacement as opposed to complaining. I remember working on Acer, Gateway, Dell desktops and they are built with tin openers. Especially dell I remember working on one and wanted to install a new graphics card only to find out it doesnt support non dell parts..grrrrr -
Question For Qualified Computer Person
FrangaR33 replied to MSTRshenanigans's topic in PC & Games Discussion
I've built computers and worked on them now for 12 years and i've come across some brilliant laptops in my time but they cost an arm and leg. For even a reasonably powerful well put together laptop your normally looking at $1500+, my girlfriend has one of the more powerful Toshiba models and its great plays new games on high settings without much noticeable lag. But for $1500 I could build myself an absolutely epic desktop with a good 24' screen which is a lot more reliable than most laptops. I like the ability to cannibalise old parts for the next computer I build, I cant do that with Laptops, my current case, hard drive is on the 3rd Motherboard/CPU/RAM/GPU combo. If something goes wrong with a Laptop other than the usual HDD or RAM your more or less up shit creek unless you want to fork out massive amounts of cash. Also because they are in such small packages they often have many problems, 3 of the medium spec Compaq laptops I have worked on have had issues with buggered GPU's and there is no recourse once its out of warranty its a case of throw it away and buy a new one. If that happens in my desktop I just test the Video card in my testbed computer and if its buggered go get another one and not have to buy a whole new computer. To the OP your friend is probably right about the lower end laptops being built with inferior components, I have had more hardware issues with laptops over the years than I ever had from desktops and I am not including those that ultimately occur from the usual laptop wear and tear i.e being dropped etc. -
Thanks for the info guys. I just got the phone in my name with Telstra and just transferred her number over. Was the easiest thing ever, I expected to be grilled about my income etc, all I had to produce was a phone bill, passport, debit card and that was that. Of course the customer service is brilliant when you buy the phone but when you actually want anything else your pretty f**ked unless you understand Indian.

Congratulations now whats your address and work hours? On a more serious not congrats let us know how it goes and if in your opinion its all its cracked up to be.
-
They probably wont they cant be f**ked I would imagine. That would require putting time and effort into to something that doesnt win them any votes or raise any revenue. Its true though everyone I know who got their license in auto can now drive a manual legally on their full license.
-
Nope I havent had any trouble with mine creaking, I bought mine in March this year if that helps at all, perhaps they cheaped out on the cases at first.
-
No it would be completely illegal, first off its a different engine than the one its registered as having which is defectable offense and they will suspend your rego until such time as you either get it engineered or put back in the original engine (also it may void the insurance if you dont tell them as your driving a car with a different engine that wasnt intended for that car). Also if you get pulled over the cops and they pop the bonnet they are going to work it out and then your going to get reamed, 3 points for driving a highpowered vehicle, fine for driving a unroadworthy vehicle and the defect, provided they dont find anything else to pin on you and god knows they will try because they love to ream people who think they can circumvent the law.
-
+1 So you think that a cop actually knows the difference in badges between a GTS-T and a GTS OP? They will on the other hand know that the huge thing hanging off the side of the engine is a turbo and that the intercooler isnt a 2nd radiator. Just apply for an exception to drive it or prepare to get reamed by the cops again.

Petition Against Speed Camera's
FrangaR33 replied to yellow300zx's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Jesus christ you werent kidding when you said it was complicated. Sometimes I think they deliberately make things so complicated that the average joe has no idea what the hell he's reading. I deal with import regulations and customs a fair bit for work and I wish that all the paperwork and rules could be in plain english so I didnt need to reread the same thing 3 times to actually know what it means. Anyway thanks for the info, much appreciated -
Petition Against Speed Camera's
FrangaR33 replied to yellow300zx's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Aha, I was unaware that the 10% was only for registering speeds above your actual speed in reality, thanks for clarifying that . That still creates problems because you constantly have people driving too slowly because their speedo is out anyway. I've had my car for 2 years now and I rountinely drive from Melbourne to Sydney which has those radar speed checker things at the start of the Hume hwy in Melbourne and my car has never been more than 1km/h out at 100km/h even though my car hasnt been serviced by a proper mechanic in 5+ years. So its really not that difficult to make sure your doing the right speed. Also having larger/smaller rims and tyres on your car can effect the reading on the speedo also and has to be calibrated to be correct which also creates problems for people. -
Just Wondering About Engine Conversion
FrangaR33 replied to n0rko's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Indeed, add to that you'll need better brakes, suspension and diff your much better off selling your car and buying a GTT and then either modding that up or doing the 25/30 hybrid motor or if you have the cash do both. Doing that you will have a lot more power than a stockie RB26 and it would of been cheaper too and without all that hassle. -
Petition Against Speed Camera's
FrangaR33 replied to yellow300zx's topic in General Automotive Discussion
My problem with speed camera's is the fact that they can get you for doing less than 1-10km/h over the speed limit yet the ADR (Australian Design Rules) only dictate that your speedo be within 10% of a correct reading. So a car can register as doing 70km/h in a 70 zone but actually be doing 63km/h on a road with a speed camera and of course the driver doesnt want to get a fine so they drive at what they read as 65km/h which is actually more like 59km/h with a legal but still dodgy speedo which slows down traffic and screws things up for everyone. Personally i'm not against speed camera's in principle, but we dont live in an ideal world where drivers know how to drive to a speed limit or indeed how to drive properly at all so all speed camera's do is create trouble. I think that speeding fines are great in principle too, many friends and relatives of mine have lost their licenses because of speeding and quite rightly too, I flat out refuse to even get into their cars. The problem is the implementation first of all the current set up is retarded doing 130km/h in 110 zone is punished the same way as someone doing 60 in a 40km/h school zone, they arent even in the same league as each other in terms of endangering life. Also like I mentioned with a legal but still inaccurate speedo in a car doing 130km/h may only read as 117km/h which is what many people sit on when they are doing long distances like on the drive from Melbourne to Sydney. It should be a system that is based on the % you are over the speed limit and you should be given your 10% leway which is what the ADR requires anyway and then if you get caught speeding stiff shit. And as far as red light camera's go i've nearly been collected by enough f**kers running red lights, if you run a red light you deserve what ever you get. I want a red light camera at every single intersection in Australia maybe then these f**king idiots will stop doing it or at the very least lose their license. In reality running a red light is much more dangerous than speeding yet for some weird reason is punished about the same. -
Nah mate, just what they consider the market value of the car. I'm not sure how exactly they decide that, I would think it would something like the value of the car on redbook, if its good enough for the government i'd imagine its good enough for an insurance company. Redbook values a 1993 non-turbo Supra at 8,900-11,200. So around that I would imagine.

I think some of these are taking it a bit far. Offensive behaviour in a motor vehicle thats ridiculous you cant book everyone who gives someone the finger after someone cutting them up. I like the idea of banning smoking in cars with minors in them, but to be completely fair to smokers if its legal you should be able to smoke where ever the hell you want. You cant say to a person here buy a packet of cigarettes for $15 most of which is taxes and you can only smoke them outside your own house when none of your kids are around. The government should either STFU about smoking or make it illegal one thing or the other, not this in between bullshit which demonises smokers for being addicted to a government sanctioned substance. Just for the record i'm not a smoker, but they are people too.
-
Exactly they wont pay you out any extra if you have a sweet as stereo or nice rims, they will pay out only as much as they have to. Your not their customer they have no obligation to pay you anything other than the stock market value of your car. Its none of the Insurance companies business what he does or doesnt take off his car, if his car was insured with a company and he had it insured it with the rims and stereo then there would be an issue, not here. When my brother wrote off his SS with full comp insurance we took off the induction kit and the stocko SS rims and left 15 inch stockers on it, he got paid out $400 less than the insured value but it was no problem

Oh but it is. Taken from the Vicroads website From 6 July 2009, drivers issued with a probationary licence on or after 1 July 2007 may drive some lower performance turbocharged or supercharged vehicles. The definition of a lower performance turbocharged or supercharged vehicle is a vehicle with 6 cylinders or less that is: turbocharged or supercharged with a power to weight ratio of less than 100kW per tonne turbocharged or supercharged with a power to weight ratio between 100kW and 125kW per tonne and that is considered to be a family type vehicle (4 seats or more) rather than a sports type vehicle. A family type vehicle is a sedan, station wagon or hatch normally used to carry families/passengers with 4 or more seats and are equipped with child restraint anchorages. A family type vehicle does not include a sports car (two door coupe). So a factory VL Turbo would be perfectly legal as its under 125kw per ton

He's not doing anything illegal, his car isnt insured and he wants to keep his aftermarket rims and a few other non standard things and restore the car to stock. Nothing wrong, immoral or illegal about that.

+1 3k for any kind of R32 or R33 is well an truly pushing it even if your willing to do heaps of work yourself. The S13 is the way to go its cheap and with a few mods like exhaust, air filter and ECU can be made even quicker for not too much money and if the engine dies another one can be had for a couple of hundred dollars.
