278 kw @ wheels standard turbos and internals R34 GTR
HIRISK replied to jezzrrr's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Track times are the best way to show the potential of your car, wether it be circuit or drag. I ran an 11.57 in my 32 GTR and this in it self is enough for me. Dyno's are used for tuning and not as an advertising tool for power outputs, people seem to forget this. -
HKS Manifold for GTR Options... Balance pipe?
HIRISK replied to N/A®'s topic in Engines & Forced Induction
This particular HKS manifold is designed to reduce/eliminate turbo shuffle. Turbo shuffle really only becomes an issue when using a twin turbo set up that runs 1.3bar or higher, so for this reason, it is usualy only encountered by people running HKS GT series low mounts as no one (i hope) boosts stock turbos this much. The effect is most obvious on a low throttle at low rpm at low or zero boost. If you are running bigger turbos, especially ball-bearing ones eg the HKS GT range, then it is worse. Running 1.5bar on Ball-bearing turbos you can get huge shuffle and the car actually shakes, it stops if you back off or drive through it. My understanding is that it is caused by the turbos fighting against each other at different pressure levels, this is worse with ball-bearing turbos as they spool up faster. Whilst you can partially mitigate this effect with the mapping, the only true way to remove it is to use a manifold with a balance pipe between the turbos, to equalise the pressure. However, I have read that it is all in the tunning and if you map the GTR right you can avoid shuffle altogether without the use of these manifolds. We all know how poor some of the jap tuning can be and that is why there is a market for these, but with all the great ECU options and tuners we have in Australia, this problem can be avoided without the use of these manifolds. -

Great, sounds like you are about to put together a beuatiful package!! I like the sound of all the things you have listed above, they will make very strong and reliable power that can be used every day!! Sorry, I was being a bit confusing about the exhaust....to clarify.....DUMP PIPES are the small items that bolt directly to the rear of the turbos and FRONT PIPES are the long headers running from the DUMPS to the cat. I was running standard GTR Dump Pipes followed by the Trust Front Pipes. You are right in saying they may not really be necessary for your power level, the stock Dumps will do fine. As for the cat, well normally when the R's get complied they remove the stock Jap cat and put a more compliant one on and they are crap!! You are best to get a custom one made. I had a larger Cat from a Commodore or something cut in half and had a 3" straight through pipe placed inside it, they then welded the Cat back together and it was mad!! Looked so neat, you could not tell it had been messed with....which is good for when the EPA or Cops stick there head under your car. Definately look into your cat and doing something with it. You must be hanging to get it on the road, will be a weapon!! I ran an 11.57@118mph in mine, so with the right driver, your car could do some fast times. -

The stock ECU is definately able to handle this kind of power figure. I had an R32 GTR than ran a stock ECU, Stock Turbo's, Stock Injectors, Stock Fuel Pump, Stock Cooler etc etc. In the mods department it had very little...Trust Front Pipes, HKS Hyper Cat Back Exhaust, Straight Through Cat, HKS Cam Gears, Trust Pod Filters and a home made Bleed Valve set to 1.1 bar. This set up, on the Racepace dyno, made 260rwkw. I guess you have to remember that mine was a much older 94 32 GTR, so the engine and all it's parts would be a lot more tired than a fresh 34 GTR. In saying all this though, I must admit that this really is taking things to the limit and really would be better if some other items such as fuel pump, injectors and ECU were changed. My 32 GTR was maxing out the injectors and the pump was only just keeping the pressure stable. Meshmesh, I noticed you list above that you have a stock cat and dumps, if you change these I think you will see a great increase in power and torque. Cheers, Shaun. -
GTR R34 Turbos - steel or ceramic/plain or ball bearing ?
HIRISK replied to jezzrrr's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
The R34 GTR in Standard, V-Spec and V-Spec II form all run ceramic turbos. They are, how ever, far superior to the 32 and 33 turbos by the addition of Twin Ball Bearings. The R34 GTR N1 version does have steel wheel turbos. These N1 Steel Wheel turbos were also used on the limited V-Spec II Nur R34 GTR. -
I was running some crappy street tyres on the front and some used Advan A032-R's on the rear. I actually borrowed those from Nige at Ice. I also had my GTR tuned by Ben at Racepace. I took a jerry can of fuel with me to Heathcote and made sure that I was virtually running out of fuel when I arrived. I then just added a few littres before each run to keep weight to a minimum. I also made a two wheel drive switch so I could do a burn out on the line in an attempt to get some heat into the Advans. This worked OK, but as the Advans were so old the rubber had gone fairly hard, as it does with old semi comps. Launch wise, from memory was about 6,000rpm on the dial and virtually a step of the clutch and then some seriously rapid gear changes. Mmmm, I miss that car.

Hi MeshMesh, I can assure you of two things..... 1) The list of modifications are genuine and accurate. When I bought that GTR it was completely stock, every mod to that vehicle was performed by myself. 2) The quarter mile time is also genuine and I have time slips to prove it. The times were run with the vehicle exactly as stated above. The one thing that I CAN'T garantee is the power output as every dyno is different, so how accurate a power figure is, is only as good as the dyno it was tuned on. A few interesting points to note..... * A good quarter time is not just in the car you drive or how much power it makes but in the way it is actually driven. I am not saying I am a drag god or any crap like that, but I drive fast and hard. * I actually found out that my car made more than that power figure and that the workshop just gave me a lower figure as he did not want me to expect to much at the track by giving genuine figures. The car actually made 257rwkw. * I requested the car be tuned to the most extreme point possible and thus the risk I took running stock 32 turbos at 1.1bar. The A/F's still were not to bad though. * The motor did eventually blow. I was doing some racing out the back of Moorabin Airport and had the car in RWD to even outt a drag against a nice S6 RX7. Three pistons did not survive that run. The car was driven extremely hard for it's entire life and lasted a long time considering it was out doing runs at least twice a week. I guess those 4WD donuts didn't help!!
