Catch Can Plumbing Different For Map Vs Maf (Photos Inc)
HIRISK replied to HIRISK's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
No, there are two changes to what I have now. 1) No more vent to artmosphere - the air filter on the can is replaced by a line running to the rear turbo intake - This will eliminate odurs / smell I currently get from venting atmo - This is legal as currently vent to atmo is not in Victoria 2) The PCV is re-installed where it currently is blocked off with a grub screw and has the factory line re-fitted that goes from the PCV to the cam cover (which is where I need a custom fitting that has TWO outlets the same as the factory) - This means that when the car is idling (thus not making boost) the PCV will create a vacuum to relieve crank case pressure -

Interesting to see the Racepace set up blocks the PCV, I will need to have a chat with them, as I am sure they know what they are doing. So maybe it is not so much of an issue? -

Great, I think this is what I will do also. But I wonder if I need to run an equaliser tube between the two cam covers? So this is how I will set it up (tba on the equaliser)... -

Really? I have seen a lot of catch can set ups where the PCV is blocked, but a lot of them vent to atmosphere. I am trying to get my head around whether it will be an issue for me to no longer vent to atmosphere and connect to the rear turbo intake instead. Found it - thanks. If you look at the picture below you will see a blue anodised metal grub screw in the hole it was once connected to. If you had a set up the same as my current one (first pic) where did you plumb the PCV in?? -

The set up on the car is as I bought it, so I am just trying to go over it all and refine where needed. I am making an assumption the PCV is blocked off as I can't see any pipe work going back to the cam cover? Where exactly is the PCV? -
Hmmm, Skylines Australia Show n Shine.....main award / prize going to a BMW Oh well, maybe next year

Hi Guys, I currently have the PCV blocked off and the catch can vented to atmo. But I want to plumb the catch can back to the intake system, but am concerned this 'may' be a problem as I have not got the PCV plumbed. Is it true that as I am running MAP system (PFC D-Jetro) I can run the PCV blocked off and use the intake suction alone to draw fumes through a baffled catch can and into the turbo intake stream? Thoughts? Feedback? Thanks in advance.

Sounds good and I guess it will increase exposure to the club via social media, which can't be a bad thing.

Are we concerned that the owner with the best networking skills / Facebook friends will nail that prize? Anyone want to be friends on Facebook?!

Sorry if I upset anyone or did not follow protocol. I am not up to speed with the done thing in these online situations - showing my age. Sorry - I can ask 7 Tune to pull the photos if you like?

Yes, I am very surprised at how quiet it is!! Normal driving, especially freeway driving at 100 is really close to a standard exhaust. And then when you open it up and give it some it really starts to roar. Can't wait to get it on the dyno and see the impact, if any,

Thanks for today SAU. It was nice to get my car out for its first Victorian outing. Was also great to have a look at so many nice cars. Here is a link to my Photobucket album with 70+ photos and a sample of a few can be seen below. http://s5.photobucket.com/albums/y194/swilton75/SAU%20Vic%20Shown%20n%20Shine/

Some newby questions... 1) When we arrive do we park anywhere or is there going to be officials helping line up all the cars?? 2) Are the cars going to be grouped in any way?? i.e. R32 together, R33 together etc?? 2) If I am a little late, say 10:30am, is that OK? I think that is all Thanks in advance.

Hi Guys, So I fitted the new exhaust and WOW, it is SO quiet now. I can't believe how much difference it has made. Power wise I 'think' it is OK, based on the seat of my pants there is no difference, but only time will tell - I will get it back to Racepace at some point to run it up on the dyno and just see how it goes, but I really think it is no different to the Tomei. This makes sense to as the pipe diameter on them both are the same, no difference. I also prefer the look of a straight exit instead of angle exit. As per normal HKS style the quality is fantastic.

Hi Guys, I have ordered in a HKS Super Turbo Muffler for my R34 GTR as the current exhaust, a Tomei Expreme Ti is just to loud for me as a daily driver. It came in from RHD Japan today, I will install it tomorrow. It is going to be really interesting to see how much quieter it is, actually the sound will be very different I guess, going from Ti to stainless. Anyway, here are some photos. I will add more once installed. TOMEI EXPREME Ti HKS SUPER TURBO
