Thanks for the reply Ben. What year Radical SR3 are you running? Did you buy local or overseas? Have you had to change uprights yet? My understanding is that uprights are the costly thing to look out for considering they are lifed and are $3k a corner. Also binning it wouldn't be fun. Replacing any of the aero would be costly, which would make me hesitant to go door to door. What parts do you find you are commonly buying from OS? Cheers

Getting closer!

Thought I'd contact Microtech direct and ask about their lap timing software and got the following response: "Our Dash units do lap timing not track mapping." I then asked about the function of the GPS hub and was told: • Road speed display via GPS • Circuit racing GPS lap timer • Drag racing ¼ mile ET & MPH timer Which sounds like basically the same thing my Qstarz unit does. All in all, for the small dash it's half the price of the iq3 and is missing some features but still appears to be good value. As for the bigger Microtech dash, I'd trade a colour dash for the IQ3 with track mapping considering they are virtually the same cost.

What's the maintenance regime like on this car? My understanding is that every bolt gets the shit vibrated out of it every time you take it out so you need to be a lot more vigilant than just a standard spanner check. Is the engine just a standard GSXR, or does it need to built like a Radical engine? Gearbox? What's an upright worth, and how often are you replacing it? Also, and this may be obvious, but is it fun to drive? Compared to the GTR for example? Is this for a National series race? Are there no state rounds? Entry fees would be significantly cheaper. EDIT: Just checked there's the NSW Supersports category. I'd be surprised if entry fees were any more than $400-500 Also, I thought these cars were pretty good on tyres, would you really need a new set every round?

In all honesty all I'm looking for is a simple dash that will flash warnings for oil/water etc, has the shift lights and can do logging/live timing. If the small microtech can do all that then it's a bargain. Who sells these things though? There is a real lack of info on their website. Are they Aussie based?

Anyone know much about the new Microtech LTC dashes? New ones apparently can link to any ecu, have colour screens and the the basic logger dash is about $800 with GPS. Does anyone have any experience with them? Are they as capable as the iq3? Do they do full track mapping and timing etc? What software suite do they use? They look like an excellent alternative for half the price, just hesitant as there is barely any information about them on their website

LOL I was actually looking at it for myself apologies! No need for engineering as it would be a track car only. I've been giving this some serious thought as the GTR is in a pretty good state to sell as literally everything has been refreshed on it, and the 32 market is on the up. I was actually fairly close to securing a trade on an SR3 but it fell through. But I did do quite a bit of research on them and liked what I found. Much as Ben noted with the Radical, all parts are 'lifed' and replacing anything costs a fortune. So can't break anything which rules out door to door racing, however running it as a track car is definitely affordable. Also you can source a used hayabusa engine and chuck that in for a fraction of the cost of a sealed engine. The other cars that interest me are ICV's. Only thing that concerns me is safety. Rollover protection looks suss and hitting a wall at 200kmh in a metal coffin welded together by a bloke in a shed doesn't exactly inspire confidence. Does anyone know more about them? Also, mx5's are rad. My first car was an NC it is still one of the best cars I've ever driven. Needs a snail though

Thoughts on this MX5? http://www.my105.com/ListingDetails/p/1/k/mx5/id/17404 I like the idea of swapping for something a little easier to manage and cheaper to run. LS1 with an RX7 also sounds interesting. Does it drop straight in? Is Sports Sedans the only place you can run something with an engine swap?

Anyone in Sydney who can do a Modesta coating?
-
thanks mate I'll check them out.

Can anyone recommend someone to rewire the GTR in Sydney? Car won't start and looking at the mess of wires under the dash makes me want to shoot myself. Got a quote from Prowire already but he is a very busy man. Cheers

Daily Driver For Track Thrashing
JimmyRickard replied to JimmyRickard's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I had a brain snap the other day when I realised if I wanted to do a track day at Wakefield (which is most track days) I would probably tow the car there anyway thus negating the value of having a track car with rego. So... the Skyline stays I guess! Might consider moving into something a bit easier to manage but for now I just want to use it. Still wanna sell the F6 and maybe get a rex or evo and take it to Marulan and the odd track day when I cbf'd taking the skyline. Anyway appreciate everyone's advice. Cheers -
Just installing a window net and just wanted to make sure it's CAMS compliant. According to their schedule: 'The window net must cover the opening forward to the centre of the steering wheel and be able to withstand a load of 500N applied at any point. The net may be locally modified to preserve the driver’s view of the external mirror. It must be affixed by means of a rapid release system so that, even with the vehicle inverted it must be possible to detach the mechanism with one hand. To this end, the handle or lever must have coloured markings. A push button release system is authorised provided that it respects the prescriptions of this article. The push button must be visible from the outside, be of a contrasting colour and be marked “press”.' This is how far I got til I stopped: So... is it covering what it is supposed to? If I was to sit in the seat it covers my head but it doesn't cover the whole window opening. Does that matter? Also, I'm obviously missing straps to connect it to the side intrusion bars. Any ideas on what I could use (or buy)? Does it need another rod at the bottom? And what's this shit about a 'button release' system? Never seen it before on any cars I've seen. Anyway would appreciate any help. Cheers
