  1. Back to the original question, i'd definately take the r32 over a ca 180sx to get into the low 12s. The rb20det will get there on stock internals whereas the ca18det won't. That's why i've swapped my ca18det for an rb20det in my 180sx, i'm aiming for mid to high 12s. Alternatively if you like the shape of the 180 more, just get an sr20det one and it will have the same potential as an rb20det.
  2. Simple question, how much should i expect it to cost to wire in a standalone ecu like a microtech or older Wolf3d? If we can't figure out what is wrong with my wiring/ecu i may have to take this option. It's an rb20det 180sx if that makes much difference. cheers Neil
  3. Mine is a blue-screen SAFC I Scott. I think some of the sponsors on here would be able to hook you up with a PFC for rb20det.
  4. I'm not sure if Matt does remaps. Gavin does his remap tuning on the street and Dyson Rotary's dyno. I may have an SAFC available in the next week if you're interested? There's also a FCD for sale on here and 1 on boostcruising (see post by pink gt) both at about $50. That would mean only about $370 plus probably 1 hours tuning ($85-125) if you wanted to go that way. I'm think i might have to go a standalone ecu since it looks like i need my loom redone anyway and i wouldn't mind bigger injectors. I think i may have to sell a kidney to afford it though...

I won't bad mouth Chiptorque, i've just seen some less than impressive improvements/power figures for a fair bit of money that it costs. $600 is about my limit for a remap and tune, you'd have to seriously think about spending the extra for an aftermarket ecu above that. That said, they do have a very good reputation and maybe i just need to talk to some more people with tuning by them. Someone to talk to would be Matthew Spry (0411 340 033 ). He doesn't get a lot of press because he doesn't work for a workshop, he has his own dyno in Molendinar and only does tuning including a lot of the high powered cars on the coast. Gavin Wood also does ecu remaps now and while they're not cheap, his results always impress. The $200 chip only removes boost/speed/rev limit, its not for fuel and timing maps.
  6. Due to financial problems with my conversion i'm forced to sell the Grex oil cooler kit i had planned to fit to my rb20det. Comes with 9 row oil cooler, braided lines, Earl's fittings and sandwich block with fittings for oil pressure and temp guages. I'm told it will fit rb, vg and vh blocks. All in very good condition, straight fins. PM me or email neilesplin@hotmail.com . Offers around $550.
  7. i want to know too. i've got exactly the same mods plus safc, ebc and rising rate fpr. i'm not a big fan of the chiptorque chips, but i know you can get remaps and tuning done for about $600 elsewhere on the coast or brissy. i'm thinking of getting a FCD, cut wire to remove speed limiter, and safc tune on dyno. alternatively i can get a boost cut, fuel cut and raised rev limit raised chip for $200, then get safc dyno tuned.

  11. Well i've finished my rb20det 180sx conversion and now the barstard won't start. It cranks at the normal speed but has no spark. I checked the fuel pump, hoses, vacuum, AFM, coil packs, spark plugs, ignitor pack and none of those seemed to be the problem. I took it to the mechanic and he found: No spark Voltage on both sides of the injector plug (not normal, double voltage) Correct voltage to the coil packs CAS readings at 1 and 16X degrees He then tried an rb20de computer it had spark but no injector pulse. Does it sound like the ecu is faulty? Any other ideas? cheers Neil

  14. i almost had the driveshaft out today, just needed a rubber mallet to get out the splines. no to the backing plate, its not worth the hassle.

  17. mindflux- i had a try this morning but didn't have anyone to help so the cradle just turned when i tried to crack the nut. will have someone to help me thurs or fri. Pekatu- i think postage would be about $30-40. i could do them for $210 posted and i'll pay any extra. msky- boost tee is in great condition. i just bought a ebc off Merli so no need for this anymore. postage would be about $4 and that would be overnight.

  19. They don't have the thread up inside the coil so i'd say not height adjustable. The car had deep dish wheels that were sold before i bought it and i stripped it down straight away so never saw it with wheels, but someone else who inspected the car before me said it sat quite low. The car had fmic, wheels and some other mods so my logic says i think he would have had lowered suspension on it too. I can't see any signs of leakage from it (no oil anywhere, shock shiny bit is very clean). I'm only after $180 +postage because i can't guarantee what they are. That's coilovers for less than stockies
