How do you fit a subwoofer under the R33 shelf?
zzsprade replied to Fhrx's topic in Car Audio & Electrical
Any suggestions on how to overcome this, as I quite like the suggestion. Sound deadening mat? Smaller 8" sub? -Alex -
How do you fit a subwoofer under the R33 shelf?

And how is the general sound quality (even your best guess) from having a 10" sub in such a location under the parcel shelf? Also any ideas on the best type of enclosure/direction placement for such a location Fhrx? Cheers again! -Alex -
How do you fit a subwoofer under the R33 shelf?

Fhrx, Out of curiousity, what size is that sub under the parcel shelf. Would it happen to be 8" and if so what is the quality like out of such a set up and 8" subs in general? Ie. What kind of sound does it have? After seeing such an example you may have helped me find a solution for putting a realistic sub into my boot... so as always cheers and thank you for your contributions! -Alex -
GTRboy, Mate this is going to sound very stupid on my behalf, but be very careful. I read here that it would be alright to clean the engine bay using water. Unfortunatley I ended up killing my spark plugs and having to get them all changed. Now it was my mistake and I took the risk, but I certainly would hold off until someone who has successfully done it (God I make it sound like something so difficult) can give you some proper advice. Just hold back the temptation and don't jump in straight away. -Alex

Rust problem area in R33 (ALL R33 OWNERS READ )
zzsprade replied to Burns's topic in General Maintenance
Burns, Mate I would be very interested to see if you could take any photos to share of the tow bar on and off. Interested to see what it would like as this is something that could come definately in handy for me, and I am sure some others would be curious to see what it all looks like. Always another option and something to do. Cheers mate! -Alex -
Post Full Respray - How to Best Protect???
zzsprade replied to zzsprade's topic in General Maintenance
Thanks for the replies guys. Just a quick question though in relation to the type of wax to use. On the advice of many others here in the past I have used Meguiars Gold and have been fairly happy. (I always seem to get little bits of white in the crevices where I can't get to the wax to buff it out) However, for this first coat I had to ask everyones advice as to whether to change to the curabanna wax (can't remember the spelling) in the tin or to stick with the Meguiars Gold for the first coat. Cheers guys and thanks again! -Alex -
Post Full Respray - How to Best Protect???
zzsprade replied to zzsprade's topic in General Maintenance
On the expensive side mate... can't remember on top of my head... but its all pretty much being done as part of an insurance claim for when my car was keyed whilst back in Brissy! -Alex -
G'day guys! As a result of having my car keyed I am having a full respray done. What was of interest to me was what would people suggest that I do straight away after receiving the car back. Ie. Wash / No Wash, Meguiars Gold Wax, Curabbana wax (or however you spell it) etc. Just a general idea on how to best protect the new paint work and to add that beautiful finish that it deserves. Cheers! -Alex

Buying head units from the US / Ebay ???
zzsprade replied to zzsprade's topic in Car Audio & Electrical
Nav2k, Cheers for that mate! -Alex -
G'day guys and girls! I know I am dreadging up the past here in a way, as this subject has been brought up before, but I am finding it near imposible to be able to find any decent US ebay listings or US websites that will ship a head unit worldwide. I have honestly been searching and searching. Does anyone have any suggestions or alternative ideas on where to find cheaper head units? On another note, has anyone noticed the number of ebay listings that for US$5 will offer you the "information" on where to purchase on the web these "u beaut" headunits for between $80 - $100. Sounds like a bit of a scam. So what is the deal??? Cheers again guys and thanks! -Alex

SXCSKY, I kid you not I spent probably a frustrating hour trying to remove them. And to make you feel worse the front ones are better then the back ones. But I promise you follow what everyone has said in this post. They do come off. You kind of have to jiggle and play with them... sometimes a little harder then you think. They'll come off. If you intented on repainting them like I did they do come on schmick. -Alex

Sumo: Thank you. I certainly will give that a try once I get it back from the mechanics today. Fingers crossed it isn't something too difficult.

I have to say that last time I attempted this it was a nightmare. I guess this is all a learning experience as is doing anything for the first time. What is the best way to remove the intake pipe? Is it to remove all the clips around the hosing that attaches to it? Any suggestions on how to easily take off these clips, as they can be quite tight? Cheers guys! -Alex

CerealKiller, Mate thank you. The link has information on the diagnostic test that I performed earlier and I learnt something new about maintaining my air con system. But I am still stuck for ideas. Any more help would be very much appreciated. -Alex

Sorry guys this may be a bit lengthy... but I figure the more detail that I give the more it may help. A while back my A/C started constantly blowing hot air on any setting. Even when it was off I could slightly feel it around my feet. So did a bit of searching on the forum and later even tried SDU. I honestly thought it was the coolant, which I should get filled anyhow so if someone has any recommendations for someone in Brisbane that can do it at a good rate I am all ears So I did a diagnostic test and came back with a PBR error (26), with all modes ok. So at this stage I was thinking servo or sensor problem. I had no idea what a PBR and still am a little unsure. Also I only had 2 temp readings from the diagnostic test which both were a little strange (29 degrees on the 1st and 41 degrees on the second - I thought that there would be more. Then later I reset my ecu. It still was hot air, but on the recommendation of something I read here I put my air con up past 32 then back down to 18 and it was blowing cold air again for a while. I kept on playing with it and it stopped blowing cold air. Thus, my thinking is that it probably is not mechanical (ie a servo) but sounds more like a sensor. Possibly the one behind the slits since my dash was ripped off months ago when my car was broken in to. Does this sound about right to everyone? Any suggestions guys? Cheers! -Alex

Does bad luck come in threes?!?!?! 2 moths ago my 33 was broken in too. They had two cracks at it. Pulled back a wire fence to get at it and first time set of the alarm. Second time they just smashed the passenger window. Its quite funny... for what they would make at the pawn shop ($150 odd buck for the head unit) it is costing me out of pocket $500 odd and insurance about $2250. Two days ago my mates old man backed in to my front spoiler and I bolted down thinking my car was again being broken in to. And then yesterday my car was keyed all the way up the drivers side. Just hoping the cut and polish on my first claim will get it out. So I am a little curious on where to position and how to fit one of these ten dollar house alarms in the cabin. I had one go off in a foyer once and they bloodly well hurt your ears!!!! -Alex

A while back I read about someone down south using a dent service. They were saying it was like $80 and they came out too you and used these "magic magnets" to remove most of the smaller dents on the car. I was hoping someone could recommend a similar service up here in Brisbane to remove all these small little dents I have on my body work, for roughly the the same price. Or if anyone has had a similar experience and can help me to understand the process a little better. Cheers guys! -Alex

Most definately would be interested to be sent a copy of this. Thank you!!! [email protected] -Alex

Ok this may be a bit of a long shot. What I would like to do is to find out if it is possible to remove the enitre windscreen wiper arm (both front and rear) so as to repaint the arm where there has been significant wear over time. I am not actually talking about the windscreen blade, but on the arm the paint coat has worn away to the metal. I don't think it was ever powdercoated or anodized from the factory... just sprayed. Does anyone have any ideas how this can be down (hopefully by myself) or is a lot of serious disassembly work required. Cheers guys! -Alex

wrxhoon - I am glad to hear that it can be done. Not so glad that it may require a lot of work. vspec2 - This is something I am interested in finding. Do you know the name of the brand that produced the polishing attachment for a drill. Cheers guys! -Alex

Considering the expense involved in having your wheels polished I was curious as to whether it is possible at all to polish alloy wheels yourself? In other words is there a science or a process to it? Cheers guys! -Alex

G'day guys! I am a little lost as to mechanics etc. to go to in Brisbane/Gold Coast, having lived in melb for the past year (where I also bought my r33). In particular, I was hoping someone could recommend a place where I can have a quote done for a passenger side window to be installed (as well as glass cleaned out etc), to reatch my console and for the install of a new head unit. Thanks to some "wondeful" people in Melb my car was broken in too and I need to have this work done as I am sick of driving around without a window as I have been doing for the last month or so. Fortunately, it should all be covered under insurance. The second thing I needed done was to have a general service. So far I have heard Gavin from Auto Tech and Chapman & Chapman as two good places. Is there anywhere else someone could recommend? Do you think it would be possible to have all the work done in one place at the same time? Cheers again guys! Its a pleasure to be back home in the sunny state. -Alex

Cheers guys! I think I may have to cruise around to AutoBarn and see what they have available. -Alex

G'day guys! Just a quick question. Has anyone attempted to re-blacken (Is that a word?) their rubber seals around their glass? Is there any way/product that someone could recommend to make them come up like new? Dye, tyre blackener, shoe polish???? Cheers guys! -Alex

Mate you are a legend! That is exactly the news I wanted to hear. -Alex
