  1. well i guess it really depends how much performance you want. and your budget. personally i drive a modified R33, which come stock with rb25s engines. more capacity = more power, and a lot more torque. its a fantastic foundation for modifying, and i now have 240rwkw, or about 320kw, which is very very quick in a light car. theyre a bit more pricey, a decent one will cost 15-20k. but are very cost effective in terms of performance, and have more spacious interior than R32s (which only have rb20s). depending on your budget, you could consider a R32 GTR. pretty much the ultimate. there is tons of info on here about what to look for when buying. other things to consider: its easier to get parts for R33s than most others. performance comes at a price.
  2. larger diameter tyres are usually better technology. stiffer sidewalls, more aggressive tread patterns. higher development costs. bear in mind normal tyres are mass produced and are designed to be economical. i have 17s on mine, but theyre 255 wide, bridgestone, and AA rated for traction + have very high speed ratings. $425 each.
  3. THANKYOU! finally some evidence haha well thats brilliant. although slightly disappointing. either my speedo/tacho are out or i have different diff or something.
  4. thats a very good point, but a dyno cant replicate friction and wind resistance. it would calculate the speed based on revs, same as what i have done.
  5. well if worse comes to worse i will add toluene, as found in many octane boosters. but i shouldnt bloody well have to. is it my fault? why should have to pay for it? why cant i just be provided with 98octane fuel at so-called "service" stations? last time i checked we werent a 3rd world country.
  6. thats precisely the problem. boat drivers (sailors?) with delusions of grandeur(powah). quote macarthur chronicle mar25: "...like many in the community i am struggling to make ends meet. Filling up my 2003 Holden Commodore... ...My car runs best on Shell fuel... ...I went to the Mt Annan station and every single premium unleaded bowser was 'out of fuel'. The only fuel available was the cheap ethanol blend which i will not put in my car." S Prophet Currans Hill so there you have it. the problem is actually struggling family men stealing our 98ockers to waste it in their bombodore bongo wagons. i hope they are enjoying the improved performance and the increased inflation due to their spurious spending. what a jerk-off.
  7. past "speeding. no one thinks big of you." billboards. surely people will think big of doing 3 times the legal limit? i couldnt do that with a small doodle. or perhaps i will take my plates off and go for a run around sydney to make a current affair. the point of the discussion was so that i dont have to do it. we all know curiosity killed the cat. and we all know that if it wasnt illegal, we would all do top speed runs at 3am. this way, i can tell commodore drivers i have a 280+kmh car, without having to risk life or licence.
  8. thats quite impressive. im going for a final tune soon, but we reckon its already got 240rwkw. wouldnt be surprised, because mine charges through 5th too... cant imagine what it must be like to have 350rwkw, 200-300 in 5sec ftw!
  9. NO! dont give up the dream! man my car ran like a dog on the 2nd last batch of 98 i got. i cant bear to imagine what 95 would be like. might as well just piss in your injectors. im considering using octane booster regularly. lost one of my engines from detonation, anything to prevent that happening again...
  10. thats a very interesting theory. a bit far fetched perhaps, i see no reason why my car would be an auto convert! are there any cosmetic giveaways? im very interested to hear your results.
  11. i was going to the 24hr mobil on the hume highway (m5) at pheasants nest, and yet even that not is OUT OF ORDER! found vortex 98 on blaxland rd campbelltown, although i feel awful putting that shit in my car. no one could expect this to kill imports, or rather, performance cars. how easy is it to buy octane booster? just inconvenient and a bit pricey. +1 for the whole situation being ludicrous.
  12. ive got my old coils, were working fine. $100 + postage? welcome to skyline ownership! last night my passenger window fell down into the gap of the door! haha i guess this could happen to any old car, but f**k me!
  13. phwoar! so now i can brag to my mates haha. i want a gtr
  14. thank your fkn lucky stars you can get vpower. its "out of order" everywhere i have seen in sydney for months now. so i have to make 10minute detours to find 98 octane caltex or mobil. its a fkn joke, god knows what the explanation is. in regards to your actual query though, i really dont think there would be discernible difference between bp and shell. all i would say is go to a high traffic servo because they have fresher fuel. fresh is best! that said, i loved vpower, and never had any trouble with it WHEN IT WAS AVAILABLE! fkrs!
  15. what are you basing this on? in 5th gear, if the engine is doing 4000rpm at 160kmh, all logic would indicate that at 7000rpm the car will be doing 280kmh. and if you go into the redline, maybe 300kmh (power permitting). is my speedo or tacho out of whack? im pretty sure in 5th the speeds are approx: 1000rpm - 40kmh 2000rpm - 80kmh 3000rpm - 120kmh 4000rpm - 160kmh therefore, since its a directly proportional relationship: 5000rpm - 200kmh 6000rpm - 240kmh 7000rpm - 280kmh im pretty sure my reasoning is correct. and the only thing preventing 280kmh is friction and drag. hsc physics ftw!
  16. such as? i think drag is the biggest one (but i have a gtr wing set at like 0deg lol). maybe mechanical limitations like driveshaft speed?
  17. haha what is a squid topic?
  18. yes what you have said is true. BUT what i was hoping to learn was whether 240rwkw is enough power to overcome the wind resistance and actually get to 280. i can guarantee, say, 180 at the wheels, would not be enough to push 280kmh. the wind resistance is enormous at that speed. esp in a skyline with a fmic pushing into the air like sailboat in reverse. therefore the top speed of a 180rwkw R33 might be 240kmh, but a more powerful one... 240rwkw is another story, you can get past 200kmh in no time with that kind of powah! anyone who owns that much donk knows that. but im not going to try it on the road, because at 240kmh you travel a kilometre every 15 seconds... and at 280...well you would be going almost 3 times the speed of any other traffic. and most street tyres arent rated for that. (mine are, but they were $425 each) so yeh, anyone with any actual knowledge or experience, maybe of driving on an airstrip? that would be cool.
  19. really? i am absolutely certain there is no limiting on my car, because, well lets just throw it out out there, i have already done at least 230. and that was when i only had 180rwkw. now im not bragging or indicating that this behaviour is acceptable. im just including it for the sake of this discussion. i feel the only thing preventing 280 would be wind resistance, ie: not enough power to overcome it.
  20. hello, just wondering what people think of the potential top speed of my car. i mean, i could get out on the highway and test my theory, but i figured this would be slightly more advisable. R33 RB25det, pushing 240rwkw (perhaps more) i havent got an a/m speedo. but theoretically, over 180, you can calculate the speed based on the rpm. ie: 3000rpm in 5th = 120kmh approx. so:7000rpm in 5th = 280kmh approx. i know the car pulls very hard all the way to the redline in other gears, so im assuming it would do the same in 5th. but is 240kw at the wheels enough to make 280? what do you think? also, is there anywhere in syd where you can do this stuff? im guessing wsid isnt long enough.
  21. mate i sold my head for $300 and a couple of the other bits, made about $600 so far. youll be doing well to find a buyer for the block. unless someone wants to rebuild one for a high performance application, but even then youd get $100 tops.
  22. mate next time crack out your phone and take photos! thats bollocksed. i wouldnt bother making a claim to be honest, but it will save you the hassle of dealing with it.
  23. my tuner MAY still have it. i will have to enquire after it. will get back to you.
