  11. a few months ago my RB25det motor (10000km since rebuild) and turbo packed it in much to my annoyance, and my efforts to comp test it returned a bizarre 0psi reading for cyl 1. i retested multiple times, but always 0psi, no budge of needle at all. other cyls were all around 140psi dry. ive finally got it all replaced (see my avatar). while this was a very painful and drawn-out exercise, i quite enjoyed pulling down the old motor and having a look see. seems the most likely cause of failure was a dodgy main oil line connection between the turbo and block. this was so loose i could pull it off with my bare hands, and may explain why i lost 2-3L of oil in no time. i guess this then caused turbo failure, and maybe the debris got in and smashed the engine. im interested in other opinions, or just have a laugh at my mashed engine and think yourself lucky it wasnt yours! the pics show -the turbo damage (i assume its not supposed to look like that) -pistons 1 and 3 (piston 3 has indentations, but still returned 140psi dry comp) -corresponding pics of the head for cyl 1 and 3 (the head was reconditioned 10000km ago and would be worth good money. is this damage critical? can it be repaired? and what is the head worth?) also, all the good bits from the old RB25det are for sale. south west syd location. any comments or questions, hit me up! thanks for any help guys! happy driving! mitch
  12. if you have no mods whatsoever, i would say exhaust first, pod filter, injectors, wastegate actuator. all fairly simple, and decent power gains, 170-190rwkw for $2000-3000. then you can look at bigger turbo, intercooler, plenum, engine management, clutch, fuel pump, bov... for more serious power. probably up to 220-250rwkw for another $4000-7000. it aint cheap. but most things you can get 2nd hand if youre not too fussy. just remember, the poor man pays twice. i replaced my stocko clutch 7 months ago, and now i need a new one for my new level of power. if you can, have a drive of a modified skyline, and see how you like it.
  13. its a kkr430 running 16psi. its not enormous by any means, but when coupled with a rather large fmic and a big plenum, doesnt help. it doesnt get much power until 5000rpm, and really takes off at 5500. its going back for a final tune in a few weeks, i would like it to be a bit more usable. its A LOT laggier than stock. the first thing i noticed, put my foot down in 2nd and nothing happens. brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrwhirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrROARRRRRRR PT-CHHH!! hahaha its not so bad now because i am learning to keep the revs up to it, but when you change gears there is more lag than before too.
  14. oh my car is laggy as fudge. which basically means its not good for getting sideways etc. off the lights you can launch it with barely any wheelspin, and then it just hooks up and keeps going. you just have to keep the revs up to it. will destroy any commo/ford, unless of course they are heavily modified too. its great for drag racing. not so much for mucking around in. response and top-end is a compromise. you cant have both. well from a limited budget anyway.
  15. i blew my RB25 + turbo a few months back, and just now ive got it back on the road. i bought a replacement RB25 package, that came with bigger turbo, injectors, fmic, plenum etc etc. up and running now it cost me $6000 parts and labour ($1300 of which was just to fit the damn fmic) but its goes hard now, bit laggy, but shitloads of top end. 240kw at the treads running 16psi, and i would expect a 12.7 or possibly better 400m. so yeh could be an option for you, i can even make some money back by salvaging parts off the old motor! id say a stock RB26 + bits would cost you upwards of $5000, plus $3000 to fit. for maybe 180rwkw or thereabouts. but you could sell your old 25 to make some $$$ back. but youre still some 60kw short of where i went... something to think about... oh and my avatar is my new donk
  16. hello, been pulling apart my fried turbo and engine (RB25DET, fairly stock). has a hks branded wastegate actuator on the stock turbo. as in the gold cylindrical bit has hks written on it. just wondering if this is normal, or its aftermarket in order to raise the boost. it seemed a bit quicker than other "stocko's" (pod + 3" exhaust) so i wouldnt be surprised if it was running a few more psi. also, since i have no use for it now, is it worth anything? i also have all kinds of other bits, inc. a perfectly good RB25DET head, was working fine prior to turbo and ring failure. i think its even been reconditioned. any idea what that might be worth? i have had a look around and im thinking $400+ thanks for any help guys!!
  17. RB25DET conversion?? the sort of money you are looking to spend for all the other mods might be comparative to this option. 25% more donk! of course this isnt easy, but neither is fitting fmics... my R33 just cost $1300 for the privilege. just got it back. should be good for 240rwkw with a final tune! happy modifying.
  18. park your car hard up against something thats fkd though. people are knobs.
  19. why cant you run different width tyres and have the same rolling diameter...? ie: 245 front 275 rear (example only) or like my car, 235/255. the point about having different rolling diameters is true only if you use the same width tyres but fit them to different width rims. the best point is in fact that same size tyres and wheels can be rotated for more even wear! but at the end of the day the tyres wear (and replacement) still occurs at the same rate...
  20. i dont see why there should be a problem providing the wheels fit of course. how does it affect the attessa? having more rear traction would mean attessa is less likely to be engaged would be my understanding. but im only a gts-t driver where staggered wheels is desirable! 10.5s though... nice.
  21. please tell me the idea to call it Evolution is a joke. its bad enough that theres a plethora of cars purporting to be GTRs out there. BMW M3 GTR, there is a merc GTR too i believe. nissan should have trademarked it!
  22. ive had them out for flat battery, but they couldnt do shit seeing as it was a weird ass jap mini-battery. so cant really blame them for that i guess. and then my dickhead mate locked my keys in at 3am, but after watching them rescue that situation i reckon i could do it myself with a coathanger. but best of all, i blew a clutch at currarong 30km outside nowra (south coast nsw). and i got free tow all the way into nowra heh heh! not bad for $38.50 a year.
