  1. as in clouds of smoke out the exhaust? its got that when you rev it even slightly...
  2. it runs like a bag of ass, and someone told me it was missing but im not sure. its a screw in gauge, and its analog with a needle so there are many numbers in between 0 and 300 or so. with the other cylinders it quickly went up and sat on 140. cyl 1 it didnt budge! it blows a bit of smoke out of the pcv? if that means anything.
  3. howdy folks, story goes that i lost my turbo and possibly my engine. havent had the engine checked out yet, but my mate has a compression tester so we thought we'd have a go and see if we could learn anything. EDIT: r33 rb25det, stock turbo, 87000km, 10000km on motor, 3" turbo back, pod, not much else. unfortunately it started raining so we only got through the first 3 cylinders (front to back). cylinder 2 and 3 got 140psi dry, which sounds fine to my limited knowledge, but cyl 1 apparently has 0psi compression! the needle on the tester doesnt budge at all! admittedly i am unknowledgable in this department, but im thinking that could be because the piston is smashed, theres no rings at all, or the valves are jammed open. thoughts? just by shining a torch in im pretty sure the piston is moving, and it doesnt have a hole that i can see. we also took off the valve cover on the inlet side (thinking maybe the turbo bits had smashed the valves) but everything seemed fine there. im quite sure it will need to be rebuild, but as i bought the damn thing freshly rebuilt 6 months ago, and now this has happened inside 10000kms, i am rather annoyed and want to know what happened. any help greatly appreciated!
  4. stupid cops. wasting taxpayers money like that! i read an article about the lotus, and apparently its purpose is to improve relations with young drivers by creating a conversation point hahah! i think most skyline drivers would rather talk about their own cars... when are they going to realise that the only time people speak to police officers is when theyve been pulled over, or are the victim of a crime etc? people are never going to be HAPPY to speak to police! court case on friday! cant wait!
  5. a dealer will rip you off twice. once on your trade in, which will be well below what you could get privately. and again on the skyline, which is marked up so that they actually make a profit. remember that a dealer is in the business of taking your money off you. in my experience, having bought a fresh import r33 from a dealer, they "complied" the car and then whacked all the jap stuff straight back on. inc. 10+ year old tyres that came apart inside 3 months... i intend to buy a r32 gt-r at some point, and certainly this time around i will be buying and selling privately. i advise you to look for one with an engine that has recently been rebuilt. and maybe the turbo and a couple of other things too. buying privately you can get some well modified ones for $15-18k with upgraded clutch, fuel system, oil pump, timing belt and turbo replaced etc etc. that might save you a lot of money down the track. and i should know! ive had mine for 9 months and lost 2 engines, a turbo, clutch, aforementioned tyres, air con, battery. ill also have to replace the pod because it doesnt appear to offer any filtration as such. also, dont be fooled by "warranties". i got $1500 for my engine and that was after several weeks of abusing them. now i have to go through office of fair trading for the rest. i would advise you to get a mechanic to do a compression test on the engine. but most of all i wish you good luck and you enjoy your promotion to a real car!
  6. no fuggen idea. its so lame. gts-ts are awesome and own most other cars on the street, be proud of that. mind you, i resent stockies very much. they look so ugmo. and weak.
  7. well this is my baby. its a 400R front, which is easily the hottest imo. but i bought it with all that kit so i couldnt really tell you the rest. looks good but. i see no harm in replicating a gt-r, as long as you dont put badges on it.
  8. really?! im pretty sure its 5psi low, and 7psi high boost. and if you have a/m zorst etc, it might even be a little higher. im no expert on the issue, but ive heard that from just about everywhere. i havent got a gauge on mine, but its quite obviously more than 4.5psi. the power surge and the racket the damn thing makes when it blows off!
  9. haha not in sydney my friend. a skyline is but small change when compared to a house. i justify the expense to my parents as a hobby. if i didnt spend it on my car id spend it on something else. that said, when everything has broken and been replaced i will own a very good car. but it will still only be worth $15k. remember i am but 20, and have a good 5 years of parental bludging left to enjoy. and a sweet career starting next year. once i obtain a godzilla i will save for homesteads!
  10. youre not wrong! i forgot to mention the aircon stopped working after about a month, and the battery had to be replaced at about the 4-5 month mark! those problems seem relatively insignificant when compared to 2 engines, a turbo, a clutch and $800 worth of tyres. oh and some moron reversed into the damn thing and smashed the 400R front bar too... and buggered off without leaving a note! bloody $2700 good for nothing insurance! seems like the worst decision i ever made. $16000 car ends up costing more like $30000. should have just bought a GT-R and been done with it...
  11. i wouldnt describe a pod as an "engine" modification. intake yes, but i thought the vic approach was one intake mod allowed ie: pod OR intercooler. but i guess p's may be different. also, thats so gay getting demerit points for a defect! i hope that isnt the case in nsw. oh and cops can be absolute wankstars, so i wouldnt put anything beyond them.
  12. you could find all of this information by searching extensively, but it can sometimes be difficult so ill help you out a bit. i must recommend reading up on the "what to look for" sections, because these will greatly assist you in making a good choice. i learnt the hard way. i bought from a dealership and the engine gave up inside 3 months, and the rear tyres DELAMINATED because they were 10 years old and on the car when it was imported... then around the 6 month mark i lost the clutch. then at the 9 month mark i lost the turbo and probably my 2nd engine. its been sitting in my driveway for the last 3 months because like most people i havent got $5000 ready to throw at a new engine/turbo. BUT, skylines have a reputation for being bulletproof (mine being the obvious exception). so you can buy with some confidence. everything else in my car, brakes, suspension, transmission, is rock solid. and it drives beautifully for a 14yo. i would advise to buy from a private seller in aus. dealerships are generally overpriced and their warranties arent worth the paper they are written on. km's are irrelevant and often woundback. judge the condition of the car by its appearance, esp interior. rebuilt engine would be a big bonus, and an aftermarket turbo, as the stock turbos often fail. also, look for GOOD modifications. injectors, coil packs, fuel/oil pumps, ecu, etc. which will probably save you money down the track. all gts-ts will have hicas, although the value of this is questionable. a lot of people de-activate it. and yes you must use v power, or other 98+ octane fuel. not that shitty "premium" which is maybe 95 octane. i have heard in japan the pump fuel is 105 octane, but im not sure of the truth in that. my understanding of a STOCK r33 gts-t is 0-400 in 14.2, 0-100 in 6.4? any slightly modified one will smash that. think 13.5, 5.8? or better! nice fat tyres work a treat. unfortunately you will probably be disappointed by the fuel economy. i used more like 11-13L/100km depending on situation. its hard to resist opening it up...
  13. i would have thought most pods styles make a loud sucking noise. my hks one certainly does. ive been told by my xr8 ute owning friend that all he can hear behind him is this tremendous sucking noise and then a howl as i rocket past hehe i guess that means i need to remove my muffler!
  14. really? ive always heard/read that it was more like 20% in that case 300rwkw would be 375kw at the flywheel
  15. i desire very much to one day own a R32 GT-R, and i want it to be perfect. i have already decided i dislike the stock spoiler immensely, and they are too common. has anyone attempted to fit a R34 spoiler on on R32? is it possible? obviously it has different mounting points. so how would you fill in the original points? i think itd look pretty schmick, but if someone has done it successfully, i would very much like to see pics!
  16. oh i forgot to add an interesting thought... what if the offending car isn't owned by the hoon? ie: your car is registered in your mates name. and your mates car in your name. they cant very well go and destroy a car someone else owns. stupid cops.
  17. this is an absolute joke. some peoples cars are worth what $30-40k+?? so effectively its a $30 000+ fine, not to mention the towing/impound/destruction fees they would charge on top of that... it would be much more productive to use a large fine to improve roads. but of course theyd probably spend it on more speed cameras instead. i do not condone "street racing" by any means. but my definition of street racing is large organised contests, or drag racing on a busy road where civilian vehicles are involved. random traffic light drags in the middle of nowhere at 2am never hurt anyone and are perfectly safe considering they generally end at about 100-120ks anyway. like someone else said, such a disproportionate punishment will only encourage people to attempt to evade pursuit. then what will happen? some innocent will be killed as a result, pursuits will be deemed dangerous and regularly called off, and that will further encourage hoons to chance their arm. meanwhile, i still see dozens of people talking on phones, and drink driving. but i guess "hoons" are "anti-social" and must be stamped out first...
  18. HAHAHAHA i doubt that would be legal somehow! trespassing maybe. not to mention the gate you would have to break open to get in there haha. would be cool but.
  19. well put it this way, a lightly modified r33 should beat a brand new f6 typhoon, a hsv gts, and the new cobra... (claimed 0-400m times of 13.9, 13.7 and 14.5? respectively) at least thats what i recall from wheels mag. calais? please... im interested in what tyres youre running and what rwkw you get. i had 180rwkw with 255 bridgestones and they seem to provide excellent traction. against a fairly modded wrx i only lost half a length on the launch and then left him for dead once i grabbed second. a calais will have no traction at launch and will also weigh a shiteload more than your line. no contest i say. havent been down the strip but id say 180rwkw is good for about a 13.5?
  20. whats with the horrid front and rear bars? god theyre such chicks cars! 4 doors and a poncy little engine bay. just enough room for the sewing machine they are powered by.
  21. you shouldnt pay any excess or lose any rating if its not your fault! the only reason you pay excess is if the insurance co cant reclaim its costs, ie: you are at fault, or the at fault cant be found. seeing as you got the rego, your insurance co should pay out the claim, and then chase it up later. its not your fault the other guys are wanks. im with just car, and ive read the policy in depth. as with most insurance companies im sure they will be eager to reclaim their money, so unleash them!
  22. damn you! when i was 19 and 2nd year of ps it was $2363! im from nsw, but nowhere near sydney. how gay. and the excess was standard + vehicle $1500 and then theres an age excess something like $2000. so its really like a $3500 excess! waste of money in hindsight, im 11 months in, and got nothing to show for it.
  23. im assuming that will fit a s1 r33 rb25? i can pick it up, im from picton.
  24. you know i once had a weird knocking noise when i went over bumps and it turned out to be a rivet in the shoulder of the tyre! it was very loud, it sounded like something was broken. i have no idea how a rivet could make so much noise, and only on bumps? bit it did in my car. i hope your problem is something as simple as that.
  25. CB's? as in radios? to avoid rbts/defect stations? i am fascinated to know how effective they are, because i had a pol stalking around my house this morning looking for me and i couldnt make out anything his walkie talkie said. also, i didnt think simply reporting someone for doing a burnout etc. was enough for police to charge them with it? but i accept your stance, one guy gets done, next thing you know youre all being rounded up for canary's. PS: the copper at my house just had to deliver some "evidence". nothing suss!
