haha how many guys on here would let an apprentice touch their cars!? nah good luck with that mate, persistence is key. i hope you find a good place and become an excellent mechanic that does the right thing by his customers!

243 divided by 1.35 = 180rwkw. i think thats correct... that isnt much power at all! mine gets that with only a 3" turbo back and a pod! though i havent confirmed whether or not it has a dump pipe, but still. mind you, i have fried the stock clutch, (doing burnouts). it was very impressive, or at least the smoke was... because i was povo at the time i replaced with the stock gts-t clutch industries kit. it seems to hold up fine under that power. but id prefer a firmer pedal.

LOL! thats a pretty lucky escape actually, that it didnt hit any other cars on the way! but now im worried because i generally neglect leaving my car in gear. though my handbrake is fine and i dont drift. was yours in gear? and does it being it gear prevent it from rolling completely?

Rb25det For Sale
gt-ahhh! replied to R32Dreamer's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
honestly i have no freakin idea. i never even got around to upping the boost. they were running stock with only a pod and 3" turbo back! the first one was caused by leaning out. and the second one, well i dont know yet, im going to have to get it towed. if its the same leaning out then wouldnt that suggest the fuel system is f**ked? it used to backfire when changing gears though, which would indicate to me its running a little rich if anything. the first engine lasted 77000km, but only 7000 of that was since i bought it. the 2nd was a full reco, and that lasted 10000. and took the turbo with it. -
rb25det? mate thats rubbish! mine got 180rwkw with only a pod and a turbo back exhaust! but yes doesnt sound good at all. ive lost two engines, with virtually no warning whatsoever. i suggest you get it sorted asap.

that is very promising. it never ceases to amaze me where people find the money for this sort of thing! i mean youre looking at $30 000+ here right? hmm well actually im not really sure, youre obviously going to save on labour. best of luck though! i dream of the day when i will own a mean godzilla.

haha ditto to that! both my parentals own falcons and they seem to think theyre more worthy of garage space than my "15 year old heap of shit". yeah it may well have blown two motors and a turbo, but at least it doesnt handle like a boat! the steering, susp. and brakes are way better...falcons are fkn taxis. i hate driving them so much. no feel. no fun.

Ticking/clicking From Rebuilt Engine
gt-ahhh! replied to R32skyline93's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
i am no expert on the issue, but generally ticking or knocking noises indicate something is rooted good and proper. does the car use oil? try to figure out where the noise is coming from. i have been told that a fan belt bearing can make ticking noises, but if its coming from the engine then is a fair bet you have a problem. also, the mechanics response indicates he is trying to avoid the issue. -
Are These Adjustable?
gt-ahhh! replied to GTAAAH's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
i wouldnt know anything about the susp. but kudos on the number plates! i thought i was onto something original! diff spelling, but still. -
my bad. i just find holdens and fords so bland. there are a few exceptions, torana, sierra... i dont mind VLs as far as commodores are concerned. my comment was more directed at those who were arguing that holdens and fords are in the same league as the gt-r, when clearly they are not. family car v race car. i hope you are not taking the liberty of presuming that i speak of my (modified) gts-t in the same sentence as a gt-r. because i dont. there is only one godzilla. and i intend to become the proud owner of one. i very much resent people putting gt-r badges on gts-ts. are they the sort of people youre referring to?

yeah i see what youre getting at. it is in no ones interests to highlight the already bad rep that skylines and imports have in general. we certainly dont need the pol pol setting up more defect stations. im still fairly new to this whole forum thing, so pardon me just this once haha. i find skyline fans fascinating though. theres the whole spectrum ranging from hardcore street racers to R31 drivers... commonwhore drivers are the worst imo. if you took off from the lights but only went up to the speed limit, is that street racing? ive heard there is some bizarre law about "unnecessary show of speed" or some crap.

for a start, i would suggest that 220+ is a lot worse, not just as bad as, driving a prohibited vehicle, which is a victimless crime. the act of driving a turbocharged car does not directly endanger anyone. but then again, neither does 220+ at 3am when theres no one in sight. shoplifting is totally different as it directly affects a victim/s, whereas speeding etc only has the potential to do that. im not really as bad a person as you make out. you cant tell me that the majority of skyline owners have never speedtested their cars. i would bet that you yourself have exceeded 160 at least once in your time. if you havent, i admire your self-control. at least i chose to do it at a (relatively) safe time and location. and it was a one-off. i totally agree thats its foolish and could have disastrous consequences, but i believe much more dangerous acts would include weaving and talking on a phone while doing so (which seems socially acceptable), and drink driving. incidentally, i do neither of these things. ever. laws such as the prohibited vehicle rubbish are just knee-jerk reactions from the nsw gov to make it appear as though they are doing something about "hoons". when the reality is some young men have always and will always feel the urge to drive maniacally and nothing short of mass castration can be done to prevent it. its just unfortunate that it can destroy their lives and the lives of others. and i should know, 7 people have died on my street in the last 3 years.

why has no one mentioned the possibility of gaining an exception to the prohibited vehicle law? the obvious way out is to register the car in the name of a legal driver ie: your dad. and then claiming its the family car and you have no choice but to drive it! there is even an exception form you can download on the rta website. the prohibited vehicle law is an absolute joke. why? a) you dont need a turbo or a v8 to drive dangerously b) its a denial of a basic human right to have a nice car c) people who have no regard for speed limits will also have no regard for prohibited vehicle laws. has this law made a difference to the road toll? methinks not. the only problem you have is insurance. because if you crash its all over. ive only ever been pulled over in my skyline for 220+ on the fwy, and when i did a "burnout" which the cops didnt even see. needless to say i got off both, the 220+ incident wasnt on radar. i also got away with not displaying p plates back in the day when i was driving mums car. the system is a joke. where are you guys driving when you get defected and stuff? ive never even been pulled over for an rbt...

Rb25det For Sale
gt-ahhh! replied to R32Dreamer's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
how do you know the mileage of the engine if you just bought it? hasnt been rebuilt at all? what type of car was it in? i cant believe its lasted 100000+ seeing as ive lost 2 in 17000km. i am interested for sure. though ive got one closer to home with 65000 for the same price. would you consider $2000? (ill pay for shipping to syd obviously.) -
1993 R33 gts-t, RB25DET bought in january 07, 70000km on the clock. 3 inch turbo back, pod, all else stock. serviced after 3000km with mobil synthetic. that engine lasted 3 months (5000km), developed severe knock, oil spraying around engine bay. from memory had lost two cylinders. low compression. evidence of detonation on pistons. apparently had problems leaning out? replaced with a fully reconditioned engine. dynoed at 180rwkw (with a misfire). 6 months later, (10000km on new engine). serviced twice, again with mobil full syn. under acceleration blew cloud of smoke and started making awful noises. still making boost however. pulled over and after a few min shut off. started again an hour later, no power, no boost developing, assuming turbo has blown when shut off. nursed it the 5km home, oil light came on momentarily. discovered it had burnt 3 litres of oil, none in the engine bay, all up the back of the car. now has slight knock, low compression and misfire. very upset owner. sprays liquid oil out the exhaust when revved slightly. will be interested to see the diagnosis, 2 engines in 9 months! i havent been able to afford any mods yet because of this ridiculousness.

very nice 26. how much did it set you back? i think everyone wants to see a breakdown of your expenditure! i know i do! its my goal in life to own a godzilla of similar stature. but id paint it yellow, and replace the wing with an a/m. the stock wing is awful!
-
couldnt agree more. i think youd have a better chance if you spent $50k modifying a catamaran. starting with some wheels. when you get on conrod you can open the sails for full boost. i really find holden/ford fans amusing. they seem oblivious to the fact that commodores and falcons have 4 doors, and are family cars. you may as well drive a people mover. i think the real argument should be whether a stock v8 would beat a stock gt-r, but of course the answer is so blindingly obvious that no discussion is required.

Pbr/clutch Indust. Clutch- What Do I Have?
gt-ahhh! replied to Fixxxer's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
i suspect that is the same clutch i just had put in my car. im running amuck in a r33 gts-t with 185rwkw. on monday night i completely obliterated my stock clutch, which really inst surprisingly, im told it is the original clutch in which case it has done 84000km of very hard driving. at least the 14000km i have put on it were very hard (i was doing a burnout at the time) so yeah. anyways, that clutch was a nice one, very good feel and bite, so i was quite adamant i must get another the same, or comparable, because obviously a genuine part would be hard to find. i dont know exactly but im told i got a clutch industries skyline gts-t clutch kit, which i have looked up on their website and its the same part number as yours. moral to the story is, i am EXTREMELY disatisfied. the pedal has no feel, its so soft and makes me think i am driving a grandma car. the jolt and aggressive pick up of my old clutch has been replaced by a vague to non-existent pick up point with the pedal about 90% of the way let out. i have taken it to my mechanic who instantly said it felt like a shit clutch or one that was on its way out already! and he almost stalled. i am not filled with confidence of it lasting even a few months. others i have spoken to have said its nowhere near as strong as a stocky. trust me there is nothing "heavy duty" about it. heavy duty clutches come with heavy duty feel and performance. i dont think mine is slipping though, but we shall see.
