Keep the ideas coming folks - Just cause I have my little project, doesn't mean that thread should end - There are heaps of good ideas here. I probablly would have chosen something different, but an opportunity fronted and I went for it. Should turn out to be a great little track car for the $$ - Even has brake bias ajustment. Left it at the mechanics today - Needs new clutch, Rear suspenstion getting totally rebushed. Brought up to standard for Rego. Then some goos semi slicks and I am ready to race ! Yeah !

Its sold ! To me ! Damn - I will have to look at the engine number - I was told it was the rebuilt engine ! -
Oh Sweet - ! How funny ! I figuerd he cat thing ! I can't work out what model Haltech it is ! And how to tune it ? Does it need software ? It does need a bit of a tune - Cold start is crap. What's the ECU adjustment knob thing ? Ray told me air/ fuel - but I find that hard to understand. It needs a bluey - so not sure if seats will pass. Hand brake is hydrolic - so might need some work for bluey. Also might need to hide the brake bias adjuster. Something is draining the battery when switched off - thought is was the fuel pump (seems to be on all the time - so that needs rewiring to ignition) Man - it has some awsome potential - but whoever worked on it recently has done some dodgy stuff ha ha ha

nothing like good excuse for a major power rebuild

I just went there - got my guards rolled - Good job - cheap. The guy gave me a free wheel nut key. Seemed OK to me.

I just did the most implusive thing... I bought that ex-race/rally TX3 Laser that Adam linked too earlier on !. Got it for next to nothing as it needs a fair bit of work and is out of rego. It's a 1988 Tx3 turbo - 4WD. What model is this KC / KE ??? It's got the original 1600cc turbo motor - has been rebuilt 40,000 kms ago. It also has a re-built gearbox not so long ago - got receipts for this. So the Engine and gearbox seem good. After driving (on private property of course, the engine seems strong and gearbox doesn't crunch or anything) Car came with race (rock hard) coil over suspension. By the sounds of the rear - there is a fair bit of rattling around - so I think all the suspension bushes etc need replacing. Being ex rally, I think the centre diff has been locked - as the tailshaft is out and runs in FWD mode. Car came with the tailshaft - so might have to get a new centre diff to get the 4WD working again. Engine is controlled by a Haltech ECU - it hasn't been tuned for cold start so it takes a while before it idles nicely. Wheels are Simmons - 15" I think - they seem in good nick. Seats are racing type and will need to be replaced for rego (if i ever get it to that stage) I got this car as a project for myself - I'll put it back to road worthy bit at time. I'll be in the market for some bits and pieces so I'll keep my eye on the classifieds here. I'll post some pics later. Cheers, B-Man

I saw that one Adam - very good value for you you get. However, repairs and maintenance would be a killer !

R31 - ha ha ha - I wouldn't want to trailer a car - too much hassle then there is what do I trailer it with ? Escort might be good - RWD if def a better option. Would want to keep the car nice and light - so no Hq, Commodore etc I've seen some of those Honda's you are talking about Bob - They are quick circuit cars. The Swifts did OK at Bathurst - for their category. Make them light enough and the 1.3 wouldn't matter , I'd guess. Just did a search on Carsales.com - no Escorts there. You'd prolly need to be in the know to get a race prepped one hey. Saw a first gen GTI for $2000 (had a 2nd gen motor in it) - Spend $2000 on the car then $4000 in mods - got to be a good circuit car for $6K...... Keep pthe suggestions coming ! It's interesting ! Mini - ?? Hmm - think a swift would kick it.

Girl Trying To Find Best Headunit For R33
B-Man replied to lovemoreful's topic in Car Audio & Electrical
Pretty good val at the moment is the Kenwood KDC-MP4033 It's got a blue display - MP3, CD, CDRW etc - Ipod or MP3 input via cable attached to the rear of the unit (good for hiding cables) $239 at Autobarn Use the rest of the $$ on yourself ! -
Got to thinking the other day - I wonder if you would do a purpose built , road registered , track day car for like under $8,000 total - ready to race. Must be quick enough to have fun in - must handle well and brake well. Also must be fairly economical on consumables and repairs (if required) So I put my thinking cap on and came up with this. Suzuki swift GTI - you can get them for about $4,000 - $5,000 Rip out everything you don't need - make it as light as possible. Upgrade shocks and springs - get allignment, camber and castor done especially for track work - say $1500 Chuck away standard rims and tyres - Run lightweight wheels and semi slicks - $1500 Upgrade (with bigger) front discs and callipers $1000. I reckon that might be a goer. Cheap , fun track car. Any other opinions for a good, cheap, fun track car ? Cheers,
-
So I guess he never works on yours then Duncan ?? ;-)

Got it done at Tempe Tyres today ! Dr Shocks in Brookvale does it - but he couldn't do today as he was putting a new roof on his workshop. I would have normally used him. But I didn't want to drive around much longer with the rears scraping - So i went to Tempe - It's not that far away actually... Anyway - LHS rolled perfectly. RHS - little bit of paint chipping - but you can't see it as it is on the inside part. The guy at Tempe reckoned that the RHS guard must have been repainted at some stage.... They do a good job - Heat the guard up with a heat gun - and only let the guard rolling guy perform the work. Cost - $40 per side.

90kg Rotweiler can also do the job for you !
